one 🥀
"Do you think that maybe Randy is going to get me one of those singing grams?" I hear some of the girls right in front of me. Yapping away about the most talked season of the entire school year. Yeah, it was the week of Valentine's day, and every single couple in the whole school was stressing about either. Public display of affection, and if they're going to get laid on that day.
Everyone had their own agenda, and I am just sitting here on my desk, waiting for our teacher to come through that door engaged. A bit more on that a bit later. Right now, my hazel gaze kept on pausing on every other girl and guy with their shade of red. I did get a bit sad when I saw the occasional faded red of a girls' aura. I knew that once the red is gone, the relationship is over.
I, Rogue Conte, love love. There are so many things that love can do to a girl. Love can make a girl a lot braver. Make her glow with a new hue of beauty. There's that extra oomph in her smile that is caused by her lover. Love is really incredible for the teen girl's heart. So it is always a bit sad to see love die like that.
"Rogue, get your head out of your ass." Gen howls against my ear, making me tumble out of my little daydream.
"Gen!" I cry out, rubbing my ear, feeling a bit of his spit in there.
"Don't you Gen me, I'm here telling you that our football team is going to make it to district and you're here looking at people like if they were The Voice." He rolled his eyes and dropped his backpack right next to me.
"In all due respect, Adam and Blake are such a cute bromance," I muttered, and that just earned me a glare from his side. Gen and I were the most impractical best friends anyone could ever even think about. We met back in freshmen year when both our parents had gone through a really rough divorce.
~*~*~*~*~
For Gen, it was a lot harder for him to deal with because his father was having an illicit affair with his middle school girlfriend. When Gen's mother found out about it, she did everything in her power to do the right thing and keep Gen from harm's away. Which meant she had to divorce his father and sent him to jail. The prosecution for statutory rape was deadly serious here in New York. And since the affair between Gen's father and his ex-girlfriend was one very uncommon one. Their affair went up to every newspaper in the nation. His father was the face of many sexual offending jokes. Not to mention, there was a bit of cyberbullying for Gen, people making fun of him. About how his dad nailed his girl better than him.
What Gen went through was brutal, and for a few months, no one knew what he was really feeling. He never talked about or said a word to his mother about it. But if you thought about it, there was really nothing his mother could do about it. Gen was going through a tough time, and he was under a suicide watch. The trail was over in approximately five months due to the media and other predicaments. But Gen's father was convicted to twenty-five years in prison, and he was now permanently on the sex offenders list.
No one really thought he would do anything drastic until one fateful night. I was coming from the library after catching up with all of the latest young adult novels. When crossing the bridge, I saw a figure standing over the ledge with a beer bottle in hand.
"Woah, Woah!" I yelped as I literally sprinted over to his side and grabbed hold of his leather jacket. At that moment, adrenaline was pumping hard through my veins, managing to pull the suicidal idiot away from the ledge. We both fell down to the concrete road, and the beer was smashed into pieces.
"Hey, hey, listen to me, you can't do that." My panicked voice was clearly not making things better, but that didn't matter.
His teary brown eyes looked up at me, and he just laughed, a tortured laugh that I've only heard of in the books. I didn't think it would twist my heart for this poor, wounded soul.
"My dad banged my girlfriend." He closed his eyes and just face palmed himself. I had never seen anyone like this. Yeah, you get to know a lot of stuff in counseling, but there's something different in seeing this well-rounded guy. A guy that did everything right was the best student, the great son. Love screwed him over big time, and it hurt to see him like that.
"I'm sorry, but taking your life away is not the solution," I said, tears in my eyes cupping his cheek in my hand as I tried to bring him back from the pain.
"This is how it's all going to be, every girl is going to want the bad boy. Not the good guy." He shook his head as he took another sip of the beer that was clearly broken. Reaching my hand over yanking the beer bottle from his hands. I grabbed hold of his shirt and did something for the sake of his sanity. I pulled him towards me, and I placed my lips on his. His lips tasted a bit salty, and beer was clearly very evident on it. But here I was, giving my first kiss with no regret.
"No, that's not how it's going to be like. Because this girl just gave you her first kiss, so don't even think that you don't have a shot with anyone." I said to him as his glossed up eyes cleared up just a bit.
There was a moment of silence before our eyes locked together. No, it wasn't like the stories said it was going to happen. Sparks didn't fly, and everything in the entire world was zoomed into him. It was just a moment of realization; there was an aura around him, a dark black one that didn't look good until I kissed him. The aura was fading into a light tint of pink.
So with another beat of a second, we mutually leaned in and shared one more kiss. The taste of beer was still there, and a hint of salt as well. But there was something raw about this moment. It wasn't loving, and it wasn't passion.
When his hands slipped under my shirt, caressing my skin underneath. I wanted to give him hope that a good guy does have a chance. So one minute, we were kissing, and the next, my pants were down. And we were kissing and fucking on the bridge that changed his life.
I lost my virginity that night.
But I saved a life.
After that, we became best friends.

"Don't make me flick your nose, Rogue." Again Gen grumbled right beside me, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"Jesus just leaves me alone, Gen. Why don't you just focus on your game." I taunted him.
"No, I cannot be distracted by these hearts and chocolate nonsense."
"Says the one that hasn't had a stable relationship with anyone," I muttered, and that just earned me a pinch on my ear.
"And you! Tell me when are you going to get your head out of your books and actually go out and find your valentine." Now it was my turn to laugh and just shake my head.
"Gen, really love... I'm good to just watch and witnessing it flourish. But me actually being in a love story. Now that's something I do not want to think of." I said, drinking some water and just shut up when a blazing red teacher burst into the room. You could clearly see the brilliant smile on her face as she began her lecture about the renaissance.
Don't get me wrong, it would be amazing to have someone to think of at night, someone to text when I have something on my mind. As I saw my teacher Mrs. Greene dance through her lecture, I couldn't help but imagine.
One day I'll fall in love, and I'll have my own red aura to be proud of. But until then, I'll stick with my books and the girl's love life in my class.
