Chapter 3
Saki paced back and forth, her perfectly trimmed nail placed in between her white teeth as she chewed on it nervously. At the moment Misaki was in her room playing with the many toys her family had given her. Saki grew more worried by the second, all in one day Saki broke a boy's hand and was expelled for her violent acts on the first day of kindergarten. Not a way to start off her week. But nonetheless, she was more worried about how this would affect Misaki. She knew the young girl wasn't dumb, in fact, she was quite sharp for her young age and would ask questions about her father and if she was even related to her and her sons due to their unique differences. Now she'll question if she's even human, no little girl could possibly shatter a young boy's hand with just the grasp of her own.
Saki knew that there was no shame in being a half-demon. In fact, there are many exorcists that are half-demons and the Vatican never seems to mind. They even have the demon king of time running an entire high school. The only difference was that the young girl was the daughter of Satan and she possessed the blue flames that were sealed away in the Kurikara sword. Saki picked her phone up, her thumb hovered over a certain number, and with a deep breath, she pressed her thumb down and placed the phone to her ear. The soft ring rang throughout the room until a male voice finally answered.
"Now this is a surprise, Saki..."
The woman signed in relief that he had actually answered.
"Hello Shiro, how are you?"
The man let out a breathy laugh.
"You know, I'm doing just fine, but I'll tell you, these boys are giving me a run for my money, especially Rin."
"Well, I'm glad those two are doing alright."
"Yeah, well they're young boys, anyways how is little Misaki?"
"That's actually what I called you for."
Shiro let out a soft sigh, "what's going on? What happened?"
"Look, it's a long story and she ended up getting expelled, I would like it if you could come over."
"I'm on my way."
With that she hung up, Saki ran her hand down her face and bunched up her hair, "dammit."
●
Shiro sat across from Saki, his eyes raked over her form, he pulled his cigarette out and rolled it between his fingers, "you look like you've seen better days."
Saki gave him an annoyed look, "don't patronize me, Fujimoto."
The man let out a hearty laugh, "still feisty I see." He put his cigarette out and stared into her eyes, "now tell me what happened."
Saki let out a sigh, "this boy in her class was pushing her around, I guess Misaki grabbed his hand to stop him...but she ended up completely shattering his hand. The parents wanted to press charges, Shiro."
"Now that's not good."
"You're telling me." Saki placed her head down on the table, blowing a strand of hair out of her face, "the thing is that the girl is really smart for her age. Last month she asked if I was her real mother. And today she asked if she was a demon because that's what the children called her."
"Yeah, Rin has a similar issue, the boy never broke someone's hand or anything but he throws temper tantrums and scares his teachers and classmates half too deaf. Rin's a good kid, but when they call him a demon he just lets his anger out. I calm him down and you know, let him pick dinner for the night whenever that happens. What do you plan to do for Misaki?"
"I...don't know..." The woman shot her head up while her hands messed up her neatly down hair, "I mean, I want to tell her the truth."
"Saki..."
"I know we said we wouldn't and I know she's young but she's a smart girl, she's going to find out eventually and I'd rather her find out from me rather than anyone else."
Shiro slammed his fist down onto the table, causing the woman to jump a little, "you know that's out of the question."
"But Shiro, think about it, it will be better for her to know the truth, I know it's a lot of pressure for a young child but-"
"Enough!" Shiro shouted, "we agreed to wait until they were older if we were ever put in a situation where they need to know! This isn't the time and you know it!"
"Just listen to my expla-"
"No! If this is what you called me here for then I don't want to hear it, it's out of the question and completely irresponsible, as her guardian you should want her to live a normal human life! Not mix her mind up with the truth, the truth that she's a demon, the daughter of Satan."
"Demon?"
Both Shiro and Saki held wide eyes while they held their own breath for a moment.
"What does he mean, mama?"
"Shit" Shiro cursed to himself.
Saki frantically sat up, she bent down in front of Misaki, who trembled softly, her bright blue eyes only widened even more at her mother's worried look.
"Misaki dear, you're not a dem-"
"Is what the other kids say true? Am I really a demon? I didn't mean to hurt him, mama..."
Saki whipped the girl's tears away, "I know you didn't, honey." She hugged the young girl tightly, "I know you didn't mean to hurt him."
Shiro sighed as he stood up, scratching the back of his head the man smiled softly to reassure Misaki that everything was going to be alright. Saki pulled away and looked at Shiro, said man let out a reluctant sigh while nodding his head slowly.
"Hello Misaki, my name is Shiro Fujimoto. I'm the current Paladin and I'm a close friend of your mother's."
"Are you here to exercise me?"
"What the?! No way kid, where'd you get that idea?!" Shiro was flabbergasted at her accusation.
"He's here because we'd like to talk to you, you're not in trouble so don't worry, sweetie." Saki stood up and grasped her small hand in her own leading her out of the kitchen while Shiro followed behind them. The man thinking about the current situation he is now in with the two girls. His mind wondering back to Yukio and Rin.
●
Misaki sat there listening to the words that filled her small ears.
Half-demom
Satan
Blue flames
Kurikara
She let those words float through her mind throughout the entire conversation.
"Misaki?" Shiro shook her shoulder, snapping the young girl from her thoughts.
"Are you okay?" Saki asked.
Misaki stared at the two adults, she stood up and threw herself into Saki's arms, tears falling from her blue eyes, "I don't care about who my real mother was, you're my mom! I promise I will never hurt anyone ever again mama! I'll never turn into a full demon I promise!"
Saki could only start down at the girl in shock, causing Shiro to chuckle.
"She really is amazing."
Saki let a tear roll down her cheek, "You're such a sweet child." She whispered.
One obstacle was now gone, Saki knew that Misaki will now live her life to her fullest despite knowing the truth. But the woman had a feeling that something would happen. For now, she pushed that feeling down while staring at her daughter
'Everything is going to be okay now....'
