Piper yawned.
She had been painting for over twelve hours straight. She was exhausted. She decided to call it a night and climbed down off of the ladder.
Cleaning up paint supplies took longer than it did to set up and Piper kept tripping over the tarp that Angela had laid out to cover the floors.
Stupid tarp.
She thought to herself as she tripped over it one more time and nearly spilled a jar of solvents. She cursed to herself and continued her work when her phone buzzed on a nearby table.
She scooped it up and looked down at it to see her brother had texted her. She sighed. She loved her brother, don't get her wrong, but Tyler McAllen had a knack for getting in with the wrong crowd all the time. He lived here in Savannah and he actually lived with her because he couldn't afford his own place.
But he wouldn't tell you that if you asked, if you asked him it would be because he just couldn't get enough of his "charming" little sister. But Piper knew that was utter bull, she knew why he was really hanging around her apartment. Tyler had a knack for getting involved with gangs and it landed him in jail more than a few times.
What could he possibly want now?
"Need your help." she read and instantly groaned. It was well into the night this wasn't good. She didn't respond and just put the phone back down. She had brushes to wash anyways. She walked back to the restrooms to wash them out. When she came back her phone had practically blown up. Twenty text messages from Tyler and twelve phone calls.
"Shit."
She swore and quickly called him.
"Hello?"
He picked up on the first ring.
"Ty? It's Pipe." "Piper where the hell have you been?!" He roared through the phone.
"Earning money to pay your rent." She snapped back. If he was going to yell at her she could yell right back.
"Sorry for yelling..."
He said slowly and she could instantly tell that he was tense.
"What did you do?" She asked quickly.
"I need you to meet me somewhere." He told her.
"Behind Lady and Sons, the alley do you know-" "Yes I know the one." She sighed.
"Does this have to do with that gang-" "Please don't ask questions." Tyler continued.
"Just be there. In like less than five minutes." Less than five minutes? He had to be crazy.
"Less than five minutes?!" She roared back.
"I wouldn't ask you to do this if it wasn't absolutely important."
She grimaced but he was right.
"I'll be there."

"Tyler?"
She called as she stood at the entrance to the alley behind Lady and Sons. she clutched her pepper spray tightly in her hand.
"Ty I swear if you're messing with me..."
She took a step in to the alley and sudden crash caused her to flitch. She held up her pepper spray, ready to defend herself, and her body relaxed when she realized it was only an alley cat. An all black cat stared back at her from the top of a near by dumpster.
"Mow."
It said and Piper chuckled to herself.
"You scared me."
She told the cat and kept walking.
"Ty? Tyler?"
She called again with no answer. She pulled out her phone to check if he had texted her anymore and suddenly she had no service? What? She sighed and slipped the phone back into her pocket. "Ty?" She called again.
"Pipe? Pipe over here."
She heard her brother's voice and walked over to it.
"Tyler what the hell?"
she asked as she looked for him. He was hunched down behind a stereotypical metal trash can. Like the one oscar the grouch lived in, she half expected to see him pop out. She squatted down across from him and that's when she saw it. He wasn't just crouched down, he was clutching his side and he was bleeding. A lot.
"TYLER?!"
She hollered and lurched over to him. Her hands pressed against his and when she brought them back they were stained a glossy red. Blood.
"WHAT DID YOU DO?"
He groaned.
"I'm in bad, Pipe, real bad." "I'll go call someone." She said as she jumped up.
"No, Piper." "No?!" She screamed.
"Keep it down they'll hear you!" He scolded her.
"They?!" She hissed in a whisper.
"Tyler what have you done?!" "Take this." He forced something into her hand. A necklace?
She looked down at it. It was gold, or at least it looked gold in the low light of the alley. It had a single gold ring at one end and in the center of the ring was an hour glass.
"What is this?" She asked.
"You can't let them have it." "Who?" "HEY!" Another voice joined the conversation. "I found you!"
"Run piper."
Her brother told her, snatching her wrist and giving it a tight squeeze.
"What?"
"OVER HERE!"
"RUN PIPER!"
And she took off. She sprinted down the alley way, opposite of the voices. She could hear them screaming as she went, shouting to her brother and then- gun shots? Some kind of echoing loud noise. it was deafening, she would know. There were five of them. But she kept running.
She could get Tyler help once she got out of this alleyway.
Why did it feel like it was stretching? And was that a light? A green one? She turned the hourglass over in her hand over and over again as she ran. The green light got brighter and then it incased her and then she was gone.

"What was that?"
Ominis' voice was shrill.
"I heard something. Sebastian what did you do?" "I didn't do anything."
Sebastian replied sharply.
"Then what was that?" Ominis repeated and Sebastian wasn't quite sure how to describe what he just saw.
The crack of green light had suddenly expanded and in a flash it was gone. But in it's place was a girl, laying in the grass, with her eyes closed and a time turner in her hand.
"I-"
Sebastian began as he looked at her. She was dressed very differently compared to them.
"I don't know." "You don't know?"
Ominis' tone was not believing.
"Describe it." He added.
"Well. the green light is gone." Sebastian began. "It gave a bright flash and then it vanished."
"Is the crack in the wall still there?" "No that's gone too." Sebastian added.
"But now... now there's a girl." "A girl?" "Yes, a girl and it looks like she's sleeping and she's holding a time turner in her hand."
"A time turner?"
"Yeah.." Sebastian said. "I'm going to see if she's alright."
"No Sebastian don't-"
But it was too late. Sebastian had walked over to her, laying there and sleeping in the grass. He nudged her first and her body didn't react.
"Is she dead?" Ominis called from behind him from the safety of the crumbled column.
"I don't think so." Sebastian replied. "I think she's breathing." He added. "Be careful Sebastian." Ominis said and Sebastian kneeled down next to the girl.
"She's definitely breathing." He continued. "I wonder where she came from and what she's doing here. She seemed to have come from the green light."
He reached out to touch her once more and to try to take the time turner from her hands.
But before his hand could meet hers, her eyes opened instantly, she sat straight up, and she screamed.
