Chapter 5: A Fine Line
[Time Skip, To Beacon]
We walked in utter silence as I neared the dorm I was given. Lilith had finally stopped talking and it certainly made things easier. Suddenly I heard a call from behind me.
Ruby: "Hey (Y/N)!"
I turned to face the young heroine, then waved.
Me: "Hello to you too, Ms Rose."
Ruby approached Lilith and I, then looked to Lilith.
Ruby: "Oh.. Hi, I don't think we've met."
Lilith smiled at her and held out her hand.
Lilith: "I'm Lilith, a friend of (Y/N)'s."
Ruby shook her hand.
Ruby: "I'm Ruby. Ruby Rose. It's nice to meet you!"
Ruby smiled brightly at the demon. Lilith giggled and looked at me through the corner of her eye.
Lilith: "Aren't you such a precious little thing. How did you get to know such a... bold angel like (Y/N)?"
Ruby: "Oh well, my team and I were the ones that found him when he came here..."
Ruby looked to be contemplating something.
Ruby: "Uh... hey, if you know he's an angel... then does that mean you're one too?"
Lilith laughed, not her usual giggle, but laughed.
Lilith: "Oh no, no. I'm actually the opposite of that darling."
It took Ruby a moment to process what she meant.
Ruby: "So you're..."
Me: "Yes. She is a demon. Lilith, Queen of the Succubi and Mistress of Deception. Please, watch yourself around her."
Lilith: "I'm standing right here you know?"
Me: "I am, unfortunately, aware of your presence next to me."
Lilith: "Oh come on, I've done nothing to provoke you."
Me: "Your very existence is enough to provoke me demon."
Ruby: "G-Guys..?"
I looked back to Ruby. She was just standing there as Lilith and I fought.
Me: "Was there something you needed Ms Rose?"
Ruby shook her head.
Ruby: "N-No, I just saw you in the hall so I figured I'd say hi..."
Me: "Very well. However I have business to attend to so I must be going."
I walked past Ruby and went towards the dorm they had given me. Lilith said goodbye to Ruby then trailed behind me. Once I reached the dorm I began looking through books for something I had seen.
Lilith: "Why must you be so rude to everyone? She seems like a very sweet girl."
Me: "She will understand that this is more important."
Lilith: "Oh? And what if I told you she was something more then human?"
Me: "You feel it too?"
Lilith sat on the bed in the room and watched me go through everything.
Lilith: "Yes. And it's such a familiar feeling... I'm surprised you didn't lop the poor thing's head off the moment you had the chance."
Me: "This is different from long ago, she-devil. She is not led by a traitor and a demon."
Lilith: "I only wanted to escape this pointless war, as did Inarius."
Me: "You created something far more dangerous. The nephalem could've fought both Heaven and Hell, they could have destroyed those renegades and then destroyed the balance of this world. We couldn't let you tip the scales."
Lilith was quiet for awhile. I finally found what I was looking for, a map of the city.
Lilith: "You know there is a fine line between benevolence and malevolence. You speak of keeping order... but how many would you kill to do so? And if my children threatened the Heavens once more, would you hunt them down?"
I stopped for a moment.
Me: "Silence, demon."
Lilith: "Even you act like the angels that banished you. Selfish and-"
Me: "I said silence, demon! I have done many things that I regret and many things I thought were right. I cast the deciding vote on whether or not to keep humanity alive. I care very little for the opinion of a demon that lost loyalty to even the Lord of Hatred. I ripped away my wings with purpose! Imperious is a coward that refuses to do what is right."
Lilith suddenly stood up.
Lilith: "I wanted away from this pointless war because it will only lead to endless suffering and needless death. Inarius tried to convince you but you saw too much glory in battle to see logic and reason!"
Me: "The lords of hell will not stop until they rule all, you think I can stand by while that happens?! They would've come for your renegades shortly after."
Lilith: "And with the nephilim we would've fought them off with purpose and valor! While both angel and demon slaughter one another with no care for anyone else."
Me: "The Angiris Council has been blinded, that is all! Many of us care for the humans unlike any of the demons!"
Lilith: "You forget a demon led to their creation! I care for every human like they are my own children, you think I wish to see what I once built destroyed?! If I must ally myself with someone of your caliber to simply see them live I will do as I must!"
Me: "You think I believe you for even a moment demon?! You are the mistress of lies, why should I believe that you care for humans with such compassion in that black heart of yours?"
Lilith: "I have lived in this world for many years, peacefully, I might add. Only after I saw you fall did I show my true self and to only you."
Me: "I will not trust the word of a demon. Nor will I ever truly believe you hold no ill intent."
Lilith suddenly pinned me to the wall with my arms on both sides of my head.
Lilith: "What is it that makes you defy me! So many have fallen before me but you remain so stubborn! Inarius fell for me in a single moment, but you... you stay so cold."
My eyes began to glow as I slowly moved my arms from the wall then quickly pinned Lilith to the wall I was once against.
Me: "My mind only bends to justice, what I feel is right! You turned on Inarius, what makes you think I'd trust you!?"
Lilith pushed me back and tackled me onto the desk of the dorm.
Lilith: "I have had many years to reflect on my actions! Inarius was a fool, he doubted our children! Our own people doubted their very children!"
Once again I pushed her back and slammed her back onto the table then pinned her arms. Only I held her down throughly, placing my leg in between hers so she could not move. My eyes were nothing but bright fiery light as my grip tightened around Lilith's wrists.
Me: "For millennia I protected humanity because they are innocent in this war between angel and demon! Demons bring nothing but destruction and pain. My job is not an easy one but I-"
I stopped as I suddenly saw Lilith's face. She was panting and looking at me with lust in her eyes. I quickly got off her and cleared my throat.
Me: "That's enough. I have work to do."
As I turned to walk away Lilith grabbed my arm and held it between close to her heart.
Lilith: "It has been... so very long since I've felt a true man's touch. Will you not reconsider my proposal?"
Me: "I will not demon."
I yanked my arm away and continued to walk out of the dorm and slammed the door.
[(A/N); There! I've had this chapter written for a while but I couldn't decide to extend it into a longer chapter or just do two separate ones. Sooo I'll just do two separate chapters for this milestone I want to happen. Also, the reason I took so long was because every time someone asks me to update a story I delay a chapter by a certain amount of time. Anywho, DarkPrince out!]
