Chapter 1: The Strange Child
[(Y/N)'s POV]
Ozpin: "Please, remember what I told you."
Me: "I know, No one can know I'm your son, and I need to behave."
Ozpin: "Good. Now don't forget to be on time. The opening ceremony starts at noon."
Me: "Got it."
Ozpin then walked out the door and headed to Beacon. I looked to my right and saw a male, same age as me, with long dark brown hair that was pulled back into a pony tail with the left side of his hair down covering his left eye, smiling at me. His one hazel eye and his one blue eye seemed to shine with excitement.
Cody: "So, we get to attend Beacon? Think it'll be fun?!"
Me: "Getting to kill monsters and fight other people, I'd hope so."
He jumped up off the couch and cheered.
Cody: "It's been so long since we've killed something!"
Me: "What are you talking about? We fought a pack of Beowulves yesterday."
Cody: "But we didn't get to play with them so it wasn't any fun! Ozpin was all like 'Battling isn't a place for fun, it is a test of strength.' Then we had to take it all seriously and killed them quickly."
He said, imitating Ozpin as we remembered the lecture he gave us.
Me: "You do realize that 'behaving' means not killing people, and actually taking fighting seriously, right?"
He paused and thought a moment. He then slumped over.
Cody: "Ugh! This is gonna be boring!"
Me: "Didn't I tell you that? We have to act normal. Meaning I've gotta learn to ignore you."
Cody: "But I'll feel neglected..."
He gave a fake sniffle which turned into a devilish grin with his sharp teeth.
Cody: "Why pretend to be sane when it's so much fun to be off your rocker?"
Me: "Because other wise we'd wind up back in a straight jacket."
He sighed.
Cody: "Mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics, you used to be so much fun before they made you take all that stuff."
Me: "I used to be a murder crazed psychopath."
Cody: "Oh? And what are you now?"
I smiled.
Me: "A highly functioning sociopath."
[Ozpin's POV]
As I entered my office I saw Glynda already there setting things up.
Glynda: "Hello sir."
Me: "Hello Glynda. How are you today?"
Glynda: "I'm good, how are you?"
Me: "I'm just fine, thank you for asking."
I took a seat at my desk.
Glynda: "And how was (Y/N)? Excited?"
Me: "He didn't show it, but I'm sure he is."
Glynda sighed.
Glynda: "Are you sure he's ready? Maybe he could wait another year."
Me: "Glynda, I assure you, he's come a long way."
[Ozpin's POV, 14 Years Ago]
[FlashBack Start]
I walked through the quiet forest, relaxing my stressed mind. I had finally made my way up the latter to Headmaster. But the work load was a bit more than I expected. Suddenly I heard a pained yelp, it sounded like a wounded animal. I walked towards the sound to find a pack of Beowulves being slaughtered by, what appeared to be, a small child. He wore a dirtied and torn straight jacket, he also had a huge, ear to ear grin. What stuck out the most was the silver blades that shot out from his body in random places. Three on his back, two on his elbows, and then five that emerged from each of his hands and went down his fingers. A Beowulf charged him and went to slash him with its claws but had its arm cut off. It whined in pain as the boy started dismembering it, starting with its arms then it's legs. The other Beowulves seemed to hesitate. The boy broke into laughter, insane, maniacal laughter. One by one he started to kill the Beowulves, slowly making sure they suffered. Once they were all dead he seemed to pout.
Boy: "Awww... They're all dead.... We don't have anything to play with."
He paused and seemed like he was listening to something.
Boy: "Really? You think so? What if we go into town?"
Once more, a pause.
Boy: "Huh?"
He looked over at me.
Boy: "Do you think he would help us?"
He stopped, then gave me a devilish grin.
Boy: "You're right. That would be a lot of fun."
Me: "Who are you talking to?"
Boy: "Don't you see him?"
He pointed to the air beside him.
Me: "No one is there child. Are you alright?"
He didn't answer.
Boy: "You think so? That's mean."
He turned back to me.
Boy: "It's not nice to make fun of me."
Me: "What?"
Boy: "Mister, could you do something for me?"
He gave me a rather innocent look, but I wasn't fooled.
Me: "Of course. What do you need?"
Boy: "Please scream a lot!"
He yelled and charged at me with incredible speed. I didn't move so much as an inch, I raised my cane and blocked his "claws". He made a blade shoot out from his stomach in an attempt to hit me, but I dodged to the left and hit him in the head with my cane. He fell down, nearly unconscious. He looked over to his left.
Boy: "Shut... Up... He's strong..."
He then passed out. I took a good look at him. He had (Hair Length) (Hair Color) hair, his skin was (Skin Tone), and his straight jacket was splattered with blood.
[Weeks Later]
I had taken (Y/N) in and began to take care of him. Quickly I realized something was terribly wrong with him.
Me: "What would you like for lunch, (Y/N)?"
I walked into the living room while he was staring at the blank TV screen.
(Y/N): "Anything is fine... Oh, but Cody wants some apples."
He started laughing.
Me: "What's so funny?"
(Y/N): "Didn't you hear the joke they told on the TV?"
I looked at the TV then back at him.
Me: "I must have not heard it."
I walked back into the kitchen.
[One Month Later]
Over the past month I had (Y/N) undergo multiple tests and evaluations. The doctors and therapists have concluded that he has some form of schizophrenia. Despite this I saw potential in him, if only we could somehow control his behavior. The doctors suggested medication, but he refuses to take them, saying "Cody says its poison." I sighed as I cooked his dinner, I mixed the medication into his and gave it to him. He looked at it for a moment then looked to his left.
(Y/N): "Are you sure? ....Okay."
He then started to eat.
Me: 'Does he know the medicine is in there?'
[Years Later]
I watched as (Y/N) took on the Ursa with his weapon of choice, his make shift claws. I could tell he was still toying with it. He left gashs all over the Ursa's body.
Me: "(Y/N). Remember not to play with your enemies."
He looked back at me.
(Y/N): "Aw. But it's fu-"
He was hit into a tree by the Ursa. I walked over to him, knowing he was okay,
Me: "That is why you should take fighting seriously."
He suddenly stood up and stared at the Ursa. He gave off a demented smile and shot towards the Ursa chopping off its legs. He then got on the bear's back and started stabbing it in the back of the head repeatedly. Soon the Ursa evaporated into black dust... But (Y/N) kept stabbing the ground where it once laid, still having that smile on his face.
[Weeks Later]
After reporting the incident to the doctors, they upped the dosage I should give to (Y/N). After awhile we started seeing results, he no longer would stare at the blank TV as if something was on, his mood had stabilized quite a bit and he'd no longer burst into laughter at random times or have violent outbursts, however he still talked to "Cody" as if he were real. I had told him time and time again that he wasn't real. All he'd ever respond with was "Of course he is. He's just inside my head." I still question whether or not he's aware of his condition, but he's showed improvement and even takes the medicine willingly, so I suppose it's all we can do.
[End FlashBack]
Glynda: "Are you sure it's not your personal opinion? You raised him as your own."
Me: "I know for a fact he's ready. As long as he has the medicine, he'll be okay."
[(Y/N)'s POV]
I looked at the clock, it read "10:05".
Me: 'I should take those meds.'
I started to get up.
Cody: "OOOOOrrrrrr.... You could skip today."
Me: "You know I can't do that."
I stood up and went to the medicine cabinet. I then took the medication and went to get something to eat. As I made some toast Cody sat on the table eating an apple.
Cody: "You know, you should eat more fruit. It's good for you."
Me: "Well I'm not like you, I don't eat fruit 24/7."
He took another bite.
Cody: "Your loss."
After eating I walked back into the living room and turned on the TV. I watched the news as a reporter talked about the recent robberies involving someone named Roman Torchwick.
Cody: "Why watch the news? There's never anything to report besides, it's all bad news."
He said while laying upside down on the couch.
Me: "Not like there's anything else on."
Eventually it was time to leave to catch the airship to Beacon.
[Time Skip]
It was time for the entrance ceremony. I walked into the large room with the crowd of soon to be students.
Cody: "Wow. I've never seen so many people in one room."
He started walking around and looking at people.
Cody: "Woe! Hey, (Y/N)! Look at blonde over here!"
I glanced over at him and he was standing next to a girl with long blonde hair and lilac eyes who was talking to a girl in a red hood.
Cody: "What do you think? She's pretty hot, huh?"
Suddenly a girl in a pale blue dress came out of no where and yelled at the girl with a red hood.
Cody: "Holy shit! I didn't know Elsa went here!"
I had to put my hand over my mouth to keep myself from laughing. I looked towards the stage as Ozpin came up to the mic.
[Time Skip, Later That Night]
As I walked to the place we were supposed to sleep I thought back to the speech.
Me: 'He certainly can make a first impression.'
Cody: "Well yeah, I mean the guy knocked you out when you were a kid."
Me: 'In his defense we attacked him first.'
Cody: "Yeah, guess that's true."
I found a good spot on the floor to lay down. Once I laid down Cody kneeled down to my height.
Cody: "What? No spot for me? I'm hurt."
He smirked.
Me: 'Just go to bed.'
Cody: "See you soon."
I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
[(Y/N)'s "Dream"]
I looked around at the familiar plain. The blood red moon shined its crimson light from above over the seemingly burnt landscape. It was a forest, only if it were burnt to ash.
Cody: "Fancy seeing you here."
I looked over to Cody as he sat on top of a half burnt tree.
Me: "Why exactly do you always chose this place? It's so creepy."
Cody: "To me, it's peaceful. You know no life is anywhere to be found."
I sat down on a tree stump.
Me: "So, we're actually gonna have to interact with people besides Ozpin."
Cody: "I know... I can't wait! Hey! Maybe we can find you a girlfriend!"
Me: "Uh huh. Like any girl will want to date a schizophrenic freak like me."
Cody hopped off the tree and walked over to me.
Cody: "Hey, hey. Don't say that, you're not a freak. Your reality is just different from others'. And hey, maybe you'll find a girl to heal that broken mind of yours."
He tapped my forehead. I chuckled.
Me: "You read way too many romance stories."
Cody: "Hey, I read what you read smart one."
