Heart of Sorrow

Oscar stood in front of the stairs, trying to calm his racing heart. He could hear Jaune slamming the door to his room, making him wince. Jaune had just stormed off after slamming him into a wall because he had been angry at Ozpin, not him. Much like Qrow had punched when he had learned the truth about Salem. Only, he was the one that got stuck feeling the pain.

The boy looked at the door, longing to just run. Run away from everything and never stop. They would probably be better off without him. In fact, he bet no one would notice he was gone now that they didn't want Ozpin.

He looked over at Yang. She sat down next to Blake, both putting their faces in their hands in utter frustration. Ruby walked out of the room, rubbing her arm with Weiss following. For some reason, this hurt his heart more than Jaune hurt his back by slamming him into the wall. Why didn't he have someone to comfort him? Why was he alone? Why was he left alone? After all, he was the one with an old man stuck in the back of his head, slowly losing his own soul to said old man; and, not to mention, was constantly taking in all the punches and pain that was also directed to that same old man.

Slowly, rubbing both arms, he silently walked out the door. No one stopped him. It must be true. It would be better if he just went back to his farm with his aunt.

Without another thought, he ran. He didn't even care that some of the people he passed by gave him odd looks. He just kept running, not noticing the tears that had began to not only build up in his eyes, but also spill over.  He only stopped when he reached the park.  A statue had caught his eye.

It was of a girl around the age of seventeen or eighteen he guessed.  She also looked vaguely familiar.  He began to read the description at the base of the statue.  "Pyrrha?"  Oscar whispered to himself.

Suddenly, some of Ozpin's memories flooded back into him.  She was calm, sweet, and kind, along with being one of Oz's most level headed students.  This was the girl that was supposed to become the fall maiden, not Cinder.

Oscar remembered Ruby talking about Pyrrha back when he had first joined the group.  She had talked about how good of friends they were and that Pyrrha gave her life to a battle she knew that she could not win.

That's when total realization hit him.  Team JNR was originally known as team JNPR.  Pyrrha was the fourth member of Jaune's team and her death was from the fault of Salem and Cinder.  She was also Juane's girlfriend.  No wonder why Juane acted so angrily.

If only he could be more help.  If only he himself could be a teammate that meant something, be a part of the team, and not because of a random voice that echoed in his head.  He was more than just a farmhand, he was Oscar Pines.  It was time he began to prove that to the others.  He was not someone that would go down easily.  No.  He was strong, he was brave, and he was loyal.  His aunt would have to wait a little longer before he went home.

◇◇◇◇◇◇

A change of clothes was one of Oscar's ways of saying he wasn't just the boy from the farm anymore.  He smiled with satisfaction as he smoothed out his coat.  Then he opened the door to Jaune's sister's house.  He was surprised to find all the lights out.  It wasn't that late, was it?

He flipped on a light and looked at the clock.  It was only seven PM.  No, they couldn't all be in bed.  Oscar looked around the house and found that it was, in fact, empty.  Well, he supposed he could make one of his aunt's famous casseroles so that they could eat when the others returned from wherever they had gone.

About half an hour later, he finally saw them returning.  He opened the door, placing his hands on his hips.  The others froze when they saw him.  "Oscar!"  They cried.

Oscar's eyes widened as he felt himself being tackled by at least seven people.  "Ooff!"

"You're ok!"

"Where have you been?  We were worried sick!"  Weiss demanded.

Weiss was worried over him?  The first time she had ever really acknowledges him was earlier that day.  He didn't think he'd worry her if all people.

"What's with outfit?"  Nora smirked.

"What's that smell?"  Someone commented

Oscar gave a nervous chuckle as he scratched the back of his neck.  "Oh!  I thought I make something for you all to eat when you came back from... looking for me, apparently."  So, they did notice he was gone.  They did care to go hunting him down.  They were his friends after all.

Jaune stepped forward.  "Oscar... I'm so sorry for what I did earlier.  It wasn't right and-"

"No, you don't have to apologize, Juane.  For the past few days, I've been scared of the same things you were... and I... get it..."

There was suddenly a loud beeping.  "Oh no!  The casserole!"

"We got it chef," Jaune's sister chuckled.

Ruby smiled at him.  "Nice combat gear."

Oscar blushed.  "Th-thanks."
