You sighed to yourself as you walked down the halls of one of the White Fang bases. Soldiers heard the clicking of your shoes, and then moved quickly to give yourself as much room as you needed to get where you were going. Some of them even bowed or kneeled before you, which made you chuckle to yourself. None of them dared talk to you, or look you directly in the eyes. As you walked down the halls, you heard the murmurs and whisperings, as they wondered if you were who they thought you were, and the sounds of them either breathing too quickly, or their breath catching in their throat from fear.

Eventually, you made your way down the corridor, and then found your way into the conference room. A long table was set in the middle of it, and then you walked to it, and took your seat. As always, you were the first to arrive. In a few moments, Cinder was the first to walk in, joined by a girl with green hair, a boy with silver hair who's mouth seemed to have been set into a permanent smirk, Adam Taurus, looking unhappy as he always did, Roman Torchwick, cigar dangling from his mouth like always, and then Neo was the last to walk in, her same devilish smile on her face. She waved when she saw you, and you had to fight the urge to smile at her.

" Who are the new faces," you asked Cinder, gesturing to the boy and girl with silver and green hair. Everyone else you had seen before, but the two of them were unknowns to you, and in your line of work, unknowns were dangerous. Granted, you doubted either of them posed any real threat to you, but in your line of work it was also better to be safe than sorry, and it had often proved to be the difference between life and death for you.

" This is Emerald, and this is Mercury," said Cinder, gesturing to the two of them, and you nodded at them. " The two of them helped me obtain half the power of the Fall Maiden, and will be part of our plan moving forward. Emerald has a Semblance which makes her invaluable to our plan, and Mercury is the son of someone you used to work with, Marcus Black. He too has a role invaluable to our cause."

Emerald simply glanced at you, before looking back at Cinder. Clearly, Emerald was only here because Cinder was, doting on her every word and gesture. She was almost like a lost puppy following someone she decided would be her master. Meanwhile, Mercury tilted his head at you, and looked like he was trying to size you up. " Nah," he said eventually, causing everyone to look at him, and then Mercury just shrugged, and rested his hands behind his head and leaned back in the chair. " He doesn't look all that special to me," he explained.

Torchwick buried his head in his hands, as if embarrassed by his associate. Emerald smacked his arm, and then Cinder regarded him with the same look a parent would a child who said something out of turn in public. Adam paid no interest to the situation, he only cared if the conversation was about Blake. Neo cutely giggled into her hands a little bit, and then looked at Mercury like he was an idiot. At the mixed glances of the room, he simply shrugged. " Sorry, but if I'm trusting my life to someone, I need to know they're capable. And he doesn't seem nearly as tough as you all made him seem."

As you stood up, Mercury did as well. He looked at you for a few moments, and then flew for you with a kick. Standing still, you activated your Semblance, and then his attacks passed harmlessly through you. You let him do this for a little bit, and then placed to fingers to his chest. Suddenly, you closed your hand into a fist, and then he doubled over in pain, coughing up blood, and he dropped to the ground, weakly asking what you did to him, as he tried to rise, to no avail.

" My Assassin's Fist technique," you explained simply to him. " I targeted the point where your aura flows through your body, and I stopped the flow of it. You won't be able to move or use your Semblance for a few hours. Be thankful I left you alive." Sitting back down at the table, the rest of the meeting went a lot smoother, save for the sound of him coughing up blood or groaning in pain.

When the meeting ended, you stood up to leave. You had been given a new set of targets for assassination, and you planned on collecting that money as soon as you could. As you walked out, you pretended not to hear the footsteps of the girl behind you, knowing what this would lead to. Eventually, Neo sighed and then jumped, and latched onto your back to hug you from behind. This time, you were unable to hide a smile from coming to your face at the warmth the girl radiated. She crawled up on your back until she could look you in the eye, and then she waved at you, and pointed to a room in the base.

Chuckling, you took her into the room, which was hers from the look of it, a simple room, painted pink, white and brown, the colors of her favorite ice cream. The only other thing that marked it as hers was a picture of the two of you dancing, taken ages ago when the two of you were children. You would never admit it to anybody, but you had the same picture framed in your room. She pointed to her bed, and then you sat down on it, and then Neo hopped off you, and then went over to the freezer in her room, and opened it up and came back with two tubs of ice cream, one neopolitan and the other your favorite flavor.

You began to sit their eating ice cream with her, and a faint smile was on your face the entire time. You wondered what this would look like to an outsider, the most feared assassin in all of Remnant, eating ice cream with someone who looked like a child. Still, you knew never to underestimate Neo. She could fight circles around most people you knew, and was a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. In a way, it amazed you how she could go from acting like an innocent child to a hardened killer in seconds.

" And then, I beat up a blonde girl on the train. She didn't even manage to land a hit on me! I had to leave when Raven came though. I wish you had seen the fight, it was really cool. Almost as cool as you beating Mercury with one hit," she signed, and then you chuckled. You didn't doubt the fight was any different than how she described it, and the joy in her eyes as she described it made you smile.

" I'm sure it was amazing," you said back to her, using sign language as well. When Neo and you had become friends as children, you had perfected the use of sign language to talk with her. " And, I'm glad you decided to avoid a fight with Raven. She's one of the only people in my bingo book I wouldn't even try to fight."

She nodded, and then the two of you went back to eating ice cream and getting caught up with each other, and then you stood up to go. " I must be off," you told her, signing quickly. " It was nice to get caught up again. I'll see you soon."

" Be safe," she instructed you. You nodded, and then she held up a pinky. Chuckling a little bit, you have her your pinky and made the pinky promise. This made Neo smile, and then the two of you hugged, and you ruffled her hair before you turned to go deal with the missions you had been given. As you walked off, you didn't bother to hide your smile, happy to have seen Neo again, and that she was doing well. It had been far too long since the last time you had seen her.

A few days passed, and then you returned to the base, and Cinder and Torchwick were both there to greet you, and you smiled politely at the two of them, and then informed them that the mission had been a success. Torchwick paid you, and then ran off to do something else, cursing about how he had drawn the short straw, and then Cinder beckoned for you to follow her, which you did without asking any questions. Eventually, the two of you reached a room with a throne in the middle, and a woman with pale skin sat on it. She watched you with amusement.

" (y/n)," she said simply, and then Cinder kneeled before her. Your survival instinct took over, and then you joined Cinder in kneeling. " My name is Salem, the queen of Grimm. I know many things about you. Tell me, why is it that you don't fight for our cause?"

" I fight for whoever can pay me the most. I'm an assassin. I have no stake in the fight for control of Remnant," you explained to her, and then Salem nodded, and you felt her assessing you with her eyes, which seemed to peer into your very soul.

" Interesting. Well, tell me (y/n). Is there anything you want in this world that money couldn't buy for you," she asks. " For, if you pledge your service to me, then I can grant you anything your heart so desires. For Cinder, it was power. But I can give you anything. Women, wealth. What is it you seek?"

" If I were to pledge my service to you...would you be able to restore Neo's voice," you asked, hesitating a little bit. The main reason you had started being an assassin was to earn the money to pay for a surgery to restore her vocal cords, however you had been told it was impossible to do so. However, Salem simply laughed at your question.

" It would be the easiest thing in all of Remnant for me to do," she said simply. " All you need to do is pledge your service to me, and in time you will be able to hear the voice of your beloved for the first time. Picture it (y/n). Her using her voice to say she loved you." At the suggestion of this, you quickly pledged your loyalty to her, and then were dismissed, with her promising to give Neo her voice back.

Weeks passed from that day, and you began to work with Cinder, and learn what her plans her. Despite every annoyance that came with infiltrating Beacon and the countless missions as an assassin you had to perform, you knew it was all going to be worth in the end. You spent your time either with Neo, or on a mission. You had yet to tell Neo that you had arranged for her voice to restored, as you wanted it to be a surprise for her. Everything was going to be worth it when you heard her voice, and the smile on her face.

Before you knew it, Cinder had set her plan to destroy Beacon into motion. Flames raged, and Grimm flooded into the school, fighting with both the students, and the forces Atlas had placed for the defense of the festival. During the battle, you stayed close to Torchwick and Neo, and watched out of the corner of your eye as Neo battled Ruby, as Torchwick directed the Grimm, and you battled with Qrow. Fear filled your eyes as Ruby was able to send Neo flying into the air, the lightness of the girl making her float.

You stepped to help her, and then Qrow cut you off with a swing of his scythe that you blocked. Every time you went to go help Neo, he simply cut you off, and then you spun and delivered a palm strike to his neck. The sound of bones crunching was heard, and he dropped to the ground in pain, life starting to leave his body. Before you could go to save Neo however, Ruby dashed at you, anger in her eyes at seeing her uncle hurt. Smirking, you flash stepped behind her, and placed two fingers to the back of her neck. She dropped to the ground, falling unconscious. Cinder would do with her as she wanted later, but you needed to save Neo.

After Oum knows how long, you found Neo, who had landed harmless. " Worried," she asks with her hands, teasingly. However, she sees the genuine panic your eyes held for her safety, and then she tackled you into a hug to let you know she was there. Your arms wrapped around her, and then the two of you were picked up by a transport to go back to the base, the mission a success.

The two of you sat around, and began to eat ice cream to calm your nerves from the stress of the battle. Together, the two of you also began to patch each other's wounds, and she even kissed where you had cuts or bruises, and allowed you to do the same, which you did, blushing the entire time. As more and more members of the White Fang came back, she grew worried as to why Torchwick wasn't back, and she began to text him multiple times, asking where he was.

Mercury and Emerald eventually came back, and Neo asked them if they knew where he was, and then Mercury shrugged and said that he was dead. Tears welled in Neo's eyes when he said this, and you glared at Mercury, threatening to kill him for this. However, Emerald held up her hands, and told the two of you that he had indeed died in the invasion. With that, the two of them walked off, and then Neo latched onto you, crying her eyes out into your embrace.

In the days that followed, Neo was a wreck. She hardly ever left her room, and you were the only one she let come in. Neo was hardly ever not crying in this time, missing her best friend so much. The two of you would spend days together sadly remembering who he had been, and you would hold Neo when she broke down. However, you eventually had to go on a mission, and told Neo the news. She didn't say anything, and then you stood up to leave, stopped however when she latched onto you.

" Don't go," she signed to you, tears in her eyes and her lip quivering, her tiny body convulsing with sobs. " I already lost Torchwick. If I lost you too, I don't know what I'd do. Stay." You sighed and then nodded, and then pulled her into a close hug.

" You're never going to lose me Neo," you said out loud to her. " I promise. I will always be right here if you need me."

-Epilogue Your Pov-

In time, Salem had won the war with Ozpin, and it was time for her to pay her dues, and give everyone what they had been promised. And so, you stood with Neo, and watched as she handed out rewards to everyone. Cinder was given an immense power boost, Emerald was given every material thing she could ever have, and Mercury was given a harem. Finally, Neo watched as Salem revived Torchwick, and then Salem placed a finger to Neo and a light flashed from her.

" I can talk," says Neo, surprise in her beautiful voice. " But, I didn't ask for this," she says confused. " I wanted Torchwick back." Salem smirks when she says this, and then points to you.

" It was my wish," you tell her, and then she runs to you and jumps, burying herself into a hug, nuzzling against you lovingly. Taking a deep breath, you remembered what Salem had told you the day you made your wish, and you decided to make that come true. " I love you Neo."

" I love you too," she says, and then happy tears well in your eyes, and then you push her away from the hug to passionately kiss her, which she returns.

After you run out of oxygen, you get down on one knee, and then pull out a jewelry box, and open it to reveal a beautiful ring. " Neo Jungius, will you make me the luckiest man in Remnant and marry me?"

" Yes, yes, yes, yes," she squealed happily, and then kissed you before putting the ring on. " I love you (y/n)."

" I love you too Neo," you say, holding your fiance close.
