Change the future: Yang x Reader
-Your Pov-
You ran down the city, and did your best only to focus on putting one foot in front of the other. Angry as they made you, you didn't have time to look around and see the buildings as they burned, or the bodies that had never been properly buried. Things such as that were something you had been forced to accept a long time ago, such was the reality of the world now that Beacon had fallen and Salem had won the war. As you continued to run, the ground shook under the weight of Paladins storming forward. Once, these had been one of the greatest symbols of Atlas military might, and one of the symbols representing the fight for justice and peace. And now they were being used to wreak havoc or perform tasks such as what they were doing today, which was a random killing to prove a point, which was that no one could oppose Salem and her forces.
As you did your best to dodge them all, you cursed your stupidity as well as your bad luck. You should have been home hours ago, and then you never would have been in this position. You knew what happened to those who broke the laws, curfew being one of them. All you had wanted to do was see the stars at night. Your father had always told you they were beautiful before he had been killed. Remembering the death of your father became the motivation you needed to keep moving. You pictured the look on your mothers face when she was told her son had died, and you knew you had to keep moving. Already, your mother had lost so much, and you weren't going to let her lose you as well. You had to keep moving, and keep one foot in front of the other.
The only reason you were even still alive is because the two people who were trying to kill you weren't trying all that hard. Emerald Sustrai and Mercury Black, two of the top lieutenants of Salem. They had been instrumental in making all of this possible, and because of that they had the ability to do almost whatever they wanted now that Salem had what she wanted. Right now, they had evidently decided that they wanted to mess with you for a little bit. They sat together on one of the Paladins, and then ate from popcorn as you ran away from them. To make the chase last for a little bit longer, they purposely gave you opportunities to get away from them, only to cut you off. They had the blasts fire in predictable patterns, and the two of them were laughing the entire time. Clearly, they were having the time of their life chasing you and others down.
Eventually, you couldn't manage to keep moving, and so you dropped to your knees. Trying to rise up again, you dropped to the ground again. You looked up, and then saw Mercury hop down from the Paladin, and then he sighed when he saw you. " Dammit,"he says. " Chasing you was the most fun I've had in a little bit, and it's a shame it hand to end this way."
He brings his foot over your head, and then prepares to bring it down. You shut your eyes and wait for the pain that never comes. Instead, you hear a burst of gunfire and then open your eyes to see Mercury doing a series of flips and then landing behind one of the Paladins. Looking over, you see a blonde girl facing down Emerald, Mercury and all of the Paladins. Her blonde hair flies in the wind, and her eyes are red as she stares them down. A yellow scarf is around her neck, and you notice her one shotgun gauntlet, and her prosthetic arm, beaten and dented.
" Yes," shouts Mercury happily. " Oh Oum. Things have been so boring without you around Blondie." The girl doesn't say anything, and then she begins to fight with both Emerald and Mercury. As she fights, you can't help but think there's something familiar about this girl, and then it finally dawns on you as you see her flames shoot out of her back. This is Yang Xiao Long, the only surviving member of Team RWBY.
You've read about her in textbooks, seen pictures of her, and then of course your mother has told you about Yang, saying that she gives hope to a lot of people, continuing to fight and save people whenever she has the chance to. As you see her, you can't help but admire how strong she is, graceful and you can't help but think that she's gorgeous. Eventually, Mercury flips away from her cursing the entire time as he does.
He and Emerald exchange a look, and then the two of them nod at each other. With one more attack in Yang's direction, the two of them begin to head away taking all of the Paladins with them. Yang lets out a sigh of relief when this happens, and then she makes her way over to you. her prosthetic arm sparks from some of the damage she took. " Are you okay," she asks, and all you can do is nod. " Do you live near hear?"
You manage to nod to her that you do, and then you see her arm sparking and then you get an idea. " Do you want to come to my house," you ask her, and then she tilts her head at you. " My mom is a mechanic, and so she can fix your mechanical arm for you. And she can cook you a meal."
Yang looked at you for a few moments, assessing if you were a threat or not. Even if you had been saved by her, there were people in this world who would sell their own family to get a few steps ahead in this life, and make it a little bit further in the new world, and on top of that, Yang had a bounty on her head worth million of Lien, enough to live comfortably forever. She had no reason to trust a complete stranger. But then she looked down at her sparking and damaged arm, and then she sighed and nodded.
Without saying a word, she simply nods at you and then the two of you walk down the city, ducking in and out of sight of patrols. It may be wrong of you to think, but you can't help but think she's beautiful. Even after all the fighting she's been doing, she looks like a beautiful or savage warrior princess. She's the most beautiful girl you've ever seen, and also one of the first that wasn't trying to kill you.
It took some time because of the slow pace you were able to go at, but then you found your house, and then you knocked on the door. Your mother opened the door again with a cigarette in her mouth, which made you sigh. Clearly she had been thinking about how she lost your father again. She sees Yang and her eyes widen, and then she quickly rushes the two of you in, and then sits the both of you down at the dinner table.
She brings over plates of food, which is just a simple meal which she sets down for the three of you. When all of you eat, she then pulls out her tool kit and then begins to work on the mechanical arm, and then she looks at Yang. " This is very advanced," your mother says, her tech geek taking over. " I mean, I'm sorry you lost your real arm."
" It ended up saving my life," Yang says. " When I lost it, I had to spend time recovering while all my friends were still out fighting. And then they all died. If I hadn't lost my arm, I would have died with the rest of them."
The two of them talk for a little bit, and then you yawn before going to bed. You hug and kiss your mom and then look at Yang for a little bit, before awkwardly hugging you as well. " Thank you for saving me," you tell her, and then she smiles and hugs you as well, and tells you it was no problem.
-Yang Pov-
I sigh when I see (y/n) walk off into his room, and then his mother finishes the work on my prosthetic arm. " Thank you for saving him," she says, and then I look at her and tell her it was no problem. " He's been a bit of a reckless child ever since his father died, going out and risking his life just to see the stars. I worry about him a lot."
" He's a good kid," I assure her. " Not a lot of people would take the risk he did bringing me here. What was his father like?" When I ask this, she looks at me sadly, and I regret asking and then she takes a long breath.
" I don't know," she admits. " He was a huntsman and he was always away on missions. He and I had a one-night stand, and then it led to (y/n). But his father was killed by Emerald and Mercury a long time ago. I never got to knew him, but (y/n) took the loss pretty hard."
She and I stand in silence, her story of losing her lover reminding me of the times I lost all my friends and family. My arm begins to tremble and then I place my hand over it and squeeze until it calms down, and then she looks at me. " So, what are your plans," she asks curiously. " I mean, you have to know she can't save everyone."
" I know I can't," I admit. " I've been looking for something which might give me the chance to turn things around before they even get a chance to get this bad. When Salem started taking over the world, the Schnee family had been working on a time machine. If I can find it, then I'm going to go and help my past self and everyone stop this with the knowledge I have now."
When I mention the time machine, her eyes widen and then she gestures for me to follow her, and then we go into a small room, and then she walks down to show me some strange machine which has more wires and buttons than I can count. It's decorated with different designs and labels. All of it is foreign to me except for one, the label of the Schnee family. I look at (y/n)'s mother, eyes raised a little bit to ask a question and then she nods.
" I've been working on fixing it whenever I think about (y/n) dying," she says. " It gives me something for my hands to do. I think I can have it finished within the year. It's just a project to me. There's nothing I would do with it except go back and get to know (y/n)'s father. If I can finish it, I'll use it to send you back."
" Thank you," I tell her, and then I hesitate when I think of something. " If I go back to the past, then odds are I won't be able to come back here. Would you mind if I trained with (y/n) and made sure he could defend himself? I would hate to leave knowing he might be killed again."
She hesitates for a few moments, and then sighs and pulls out a cigarette. " Sure," she says. " My son is stubborn, and he would want to train with you anyways. I'll sleep better at night when I know that he can defend himself."

I smile to myself when (y/n) finishes a series of punches and kicks, and then almost lands a hit on me. He's been getting so much stronger lately, and making good progress. He's already learned a lot about how to manipulate his aura and then use it to achieve a lot of different things. The only thing he hasn't been able to learn yet is how to use his Semblance, and it makes me smile sadly, remembering how Jaune had the same struggle of using to use his Semblance, but then I smile when I see (y/n) using his aura to block some of my punches.
Training him has given me a purpose and something to do other than just survive, and his mother is so kind, and has been full of life again since she began her work on my prosthetic arm, as well as fixing the time machine. She tells me that in a few weeks she can have it finished, which makes me so excited to see all of my friends and family alive again. I will say though, I am going to miss (y/n), since odds are I'm not going to be able to return to this timeline. The time machine is only supposed to be good for one jump, and that's assuming everything runs perfectly.
I sit down with (y/n), and he looks really sad when I tell him that I have to go back to the past, and that the time machine is only big enough to carry one person. He nods and then looks down sadly, and then I take off my scarf and drape it around his neck and he looks up smiling at me, and then on impulse, I kiss his cheek, and watch as he flushes red. " Don't look so sad," I tell him. " I still have time before I have to leave, so let's make the most of it training okay?"
He nods, and then promises that he's going to unlock my Semblance before the time machine is used, and then I stand up and the two of us go back to training, and then I smile when I see him walk and get his fighting stance. I already know he's going to make a difference int he world at some point.

You sat with Yang in your house and then you heard a blast outside. Looking out the window, you saw Emerald and Mercury sitting on Paladins and laughing to themselves as they destroyed everything in sight. Yang stood up and began cursing when she saw the two of them, and then you stood up as well to join her. She looked at you, and then shook her head. " You're getting a lot stronger, but you aren't ready for this (y/n). Stay here."
You shook your head to protest, and then she rolled her eyes and then stood in front of you, and then kissed your forehead. Before you had time to ask her anything else, you felt her metal arm come into contact with your head, and then you dropped to the ground, eyes shutting against your will.
You came to after an unknown amount of time, and then your eyes widened and then you dashed outside, wanting to go find Yang. As you walked around, you took in the amount of carnage that they were able to cause, and you knew that there were likely no survivors. Your eyes widened with shock when you saw Yang, lying lifeless in a puddle, mechanical arm smashed into pieces. When you saw her, you ran over to her and then began to breath heavily, and shook her body, and yet she doesn't even stir. " No," you whisper to yourself and then begin to repeat that word over and over again.
Tears and sobs wrack throughout your entire body, and then you begin to scream as you pound on the ground. Your hands rip open, and then blood drips from them. Your aura flares up as you sob and then golden energy flies from you and rips the ground underneath you. The golden energy surges and destroys everything around you, and then you eventually stop sobbing. Picking up Yang, you take her to the one area Emerald and Mercury left unharmed.
You slowly began to dig a grave for her, and then lowered her body into it, and then covered the hole. You sat there sobbing for a few moments, and then wiped your tears from your eyes, and placed her scarf around your neck. " I'm going to change everything," you promised her. " I'm going to change the future."
Once you returned home, you tearfully explain to your mom everything that had happened, and then she sighs and then brings you a sword and hands it to you. " This was the weapon your father used," she says. " The truth is, I know I'm not going to be able to talk you out of going back to the past. Come with me. The time machine is finished."
After a tear stained goodbye, you got in the time machine. Bright energy flared all around you, and then you appeared in the middle of a field. Stepping down from the machine, you used your scroll to check the year, which confirmed for you that the machine had worked. Smiling sadly, you remembered what it was you were here to do, and so you went to find Beacon Academy.
As you stood on the airship weeks later, you felt a tap on your shoulder, and then you looked over to see the Yang of this timeline, a big smile on her face and a light in her lilac eyes. Seeing her so full of life like this, you had to make an effort not to hug her and burst into tears. She pointed at your scarf, and then laughed as she showed you her own scarf. " Where'd you get yours," she asks, and for a moment you manage a chuckle. Imagine her reaction if you explained to her you got it from her in the future.
" I got it from someone important to me," you managed to tell her eventually, and then she nods, and then introduces herself. The two of you begin to talk, and seeing her like this again, you know that you have to change the future, and protect her this time.

Since the school year at Beacon has started, (y/n) and I have been in a relationship. The two of us hit it off right away, and it felt like I had known him forever. He knew how to laugh and joke with me, and it was like he knew what I was going to say before I even had the chance to say it. He and just seemed to fit together like we were two pieces of the same puzzle.
Today was my fight with Mercury, and then (y/n) was talking to me beforehand and giving me some advice, and he looks really nervous about something. " When you knock him down, don't do anything no matter what happens okay?"
I look at him, tilting my head and wondering what he means, and I ask why he would say that, and then he looks like he's about to cry, and I cup his face. " Just try me okay," he says, and then I nod. Of course I trust him. I give him a kiss, and then run down into the arena.
The fight with Mercury goes back and forth, and then I eventually manage to win, knocking him down. I see him get up to attack me, and every instinct in me screams for me to defend myself. However, I keep replaying the words from (y/n) in mind. " I trust you," I mutter to myself, and then the attack passes right through me. I blink a few times, and then I see Mercury on the ground, holding out a hand, which I take and then help him up.
Later, I find (y/n) and then hug him. I want to ask him how he knew that would happen, but then he kisses me, and I forget to ask him anything, and we keep kissing each other. However he knew, I'm so glad he was able to help me with that. If I had acted on impulse, who knows what would have happened to me?
-Timeskip Yang Pov-
Flames rage and Grimm surge through the city. I stand with (y/n) and the two of us cut down as many as we can, and then I start to panic when I realize I was separated from Blake. I'm about to tell (y/n) I'll go after her, but then he stops me. " I'll go," he says. " Find Ruby, and take her to Phyrra. She's going to need your help. I know where Blake is, and I'll find her."
" If you know where Blake is, then I'll go with you," I tell him, and then he shakes his head and then tears drip from his eyes.
" I need you to trust me," he says. " You can't come with me. I already lost you once, and I can't afford for that to happen again. I love you too much to lose you Yang. I need you to trust me. Can you do that for me?"
" I can," I tell him, and then pull him in for a deep kiss. When I let go we pull away. " Go. When this over, you owe me an explanation for everything." He nods, and then begins to run off quickly, and then I find Ruby, and we run to find Phyrra.
When we get there, Cinder has her defeated, and prepares to fire an arrow. Before she can, Ruby floats a few feet off the ground, and then her eyes burst into pure silver. When the light fades, Cinder lays on the ground, bleeding and defeated, and the two of us pick up Phyrra and begin to run off, carrying her to safety.
The three of us make it to an airship, and Blake is there thanking (y/n) for saving her, and then I walk over to him and pull him aside. " I'm glad you were okay," I tell him. " And I'm glad you were right about finding Ruby. But I need to know. How did you know all of this?"
" I'm from the future," he tells me. " In the future I come from, Salem and Cinder take over Remnant. You were the only member of your team to survive, and you taught me how to fight. You died, and then I went back in time to change things. I know this is hard to believe, but I need you to trust me."
" I trust you," I tell him, really believing his story. (y/n) would never lie to me, especially not about something like this. When he says this, it also clicks with me that the future me gave him the scarf he always wears. " And, you don't have to worry about losing the present me. I'm right here with you. I love you."
" I love you too," he says, and then he gives me a kiss, and we hold onto each other.
-Epilogue Yang Pov-
I sit with my daughter, Summer on the couch and she begins to go through a photo album. She looks so much like her father, except she has my eyes. " How come Dad is never home," she asks, and then I swallow a lump in my throat. I remember growing up and asking the same question about my mother myself.
Before I can answer, the door opens and then (y/n) walks in, looking exhausted as always. Summer gets up and then runs and then jumps at him, and then he catches her and hugs him. The two of them hold for a little bit, and then he sets her down, and she asks him what she had asked me, and then (y/n) rubs the back of his head.
" I broke time," he tells her. " I time traveled once, and changed a lot of things, and history abhors a paradox. Since then, I've been tasked with finding and correcting temporal anomalies. In exchange for that, the changes I made to history get to stay."
Summer nods like she believes all of this, and then she pokes her index fingers together. " Can we all cuddle together," she asks, and then (y/n) pretends to think about it before picking up Summer and then going to our bed. She lays down in the middle, and then (y/n) look each other in the eyes.
" I love you," I tell him. " Not a lot of guys who would break time to save someone they loved."
" I'll turn heaven and earth upside down to find you," he says, and then he kisses me. " I love you too." He also quickly falls asleep, and then I look at him and Summer, and the matching wedding rings he and I wear. I think for a few moments about how he came from the worst future imaginable, and yet how he managed to give me the best future I could imagine.
( let me know what you thought)
