Big Ego, but Big Heart ( Pyhrra Nikos X Reader)
-Your Pov-
You walked down into the arena, doing the best you could not to get the light from the camera shudders in your eyes. Still, you smiled when you saw that you were the center of attention once again. Along the way into the arena, you took the time to start blowing kisses towards your fans, and then waving and gesturing for them to clap and cheer louder. Some of the fans in the audience rolled their eyes when they saw you, but you simply scoffed at them. You knew they were just jealous it wasn't them who got this far into the tournament. You took special care to blow kisses their way, since you knew it would set them off even more. Fireworks and confetti shot out all around you, and the trail of it stopped when you got to the center of the ring. Cracking your neck and knuckles for a bit, you then waited for your opponent to walk into the ring.
On the other side of the arena walked in the only person in this tournament who might be worth your time in a fight, Phyrra Nikos. Her weapons were rested simply on her back, and her pose gave no indication of what she might have been thinking at this time. The same fireworks and confetti shot out around her, but she paid them no attention. The crowd was screaming and chanting her name, but she simply walked past them, tuning out everything other than the fight in front of her. She eventually made it into the ring with you, and then the announcer ran in the ring with the two of you to ask some of his questions. You rolled your eyes at this, wanting a chance to win this fight and go home, but still you couldn't help but be a little excited to give the interview.
" So, Phyrra. People are saying this is the fight of the century, and that whoever wins this is the best fighter in your age range. Knowing the stakes of this battle, do you have anything you would like to say to the fans you have back at home," he asks, and then he hands her the microphone, and she smiles a little bit.
" I would like to thank them all for their support which led me here," she says humbly, and the crowd cheers when she says this. " And, I want them to know I'm always going to do the best I can to give them a performance worth watching."
He nods when she says this, and then he quickly dashes over to you. " And now for (y/n). It's been said that Phyrra is the only real competition you have in this tournament, and the only one who has a chance at beating you. What do you have to say to those people?" You smirked when he said this, and then you took the microphone from his hands.
" To me, everyone's an amateur," you told him, causing a mix of boos and cheers from the fans, and then you tossed him the microphone back. He struggled to catch it, and then you looked over to see Phyrra, her face setting with confidence, but also a hint of anger in her green eyes. As the two of you looked each other down, the announcer began to explain the rules of the fight, and then he walked out of the ring.
He began to ask the two of you if you were ready, and then Phyrra nodded at him, and then he turned to you. " Born ready," you told him with a smirk, and then he sounded the bell to indicate the start of the match, and then the two of you flew towards each other, and collided in the air, sending out shockwaves which took out portions of the arena. The two of you disengaged and then began to circle each other, getting ready for the fight to come.
The two of you began to fight each other for a little bit, until you sighed with disappointment. Looking at the display in the arena, you saw that your aura was still in the green, while hers had dropped to yellow. On top of that, you had yet to use all of your energy. You had hoped at the very least a fight with her could kill your boredom, but apparently not. You saw that the fight also had plenty of time, and you didn't want to spend it all bored like this. And so, the next time she charged at you, you summoned a energy blade around your arm and swung it for her. She lifted her shield, but the blade cut right through it, and then her eyes widened with shock. Taking advantage of her confusion, you rushed her and the two of you started a close range fight. You easily overpowered her, and then kicked her out of the arena, breaking her aura at the same time.
She's helped back into the arena, and the two of you shake hands before the interviewers begin to ask the both of you questions. " So, (y/n), you may have won the fight, but you've lost yourself a few fans today," says the announcer. " How would you respond to the critics you have who are trying to figure out where your ego comes from?"
" It helps that I always win," you tell him simply before walking off to get changed. Once you get to the locker room, you change out into your civilian clothes, and then come out to do a bit of a more formal interview. As you get home, you wonder how you're going to enjoy the rest of your day, and then you remember that you have to finish your application to Beacon. You smirked when you saw the question asking what you could potentially bring to Beacon, and then you simply put for it, "I'm (y/n) (l/n)." A week later, you got your letter of acceptance into Beacon.
-Phyrra Pov-
I sit with my team at breakfast, as well as our friends in Team RWBY. All of us start to talk about how much we dislike Cardin when we see him tugging on the ears of Velvet, when a hand appears on his hand. I look up to see (y/n), and my eyes widen with shock. I knew he had been accepted into Beacon, but never had a chance to talk to him. Right now, he's surrounded by all of Cardin's team, and that same boredom is in his eyes like always.
" Should we uh, help him," asks Jaune, and then everyone looks at him in confusion that he thinks (y/n) would need help. All of us try to explain who (y/n) is, and then we look over when we see Cardin swing his mace. (y/n) doesn't even flinch and it hits him right in the head, but he doesn't even flinch.
" Good one," says (y/n) mockingly. " That could have killed me. Okay, maybe not killed. But, I could have gotten a scratch or something. Good job." This sets all of CRDL off, and they all attack him at once. But, to no one's surprise, all four of them are sent flying within seconds, and then he walks off to get his food.
" Who is that guy," asks Jaune in confusion. I smile when he asks this, remembering how he didn't know who I was when the two of us first got to Beacon. Although I am surprised he genuinely has no idea who (y/n) is. As far as celebrities go, (y/n) is one of the most divisive in all of Remnant.
" That's (y/n) (l/n)," I tell him, and Jaune shrugs, which makes me smile. " He's the world champion of the Mistral Tournament, and the only person who's ever beaten me in a fight." He looks at me still confused, and so I decide to say something I know will give it away. " He's on the cover of every Lucky Charms cereal box." Jaune widens his eyes when he realizes that, and then dashes off, and comes back with a signed napkin, and begins to gush about how he used to love the cereal (y/n) was on.
Curiosity gets the better of me, and then I go and find (y/n) a few moments later, eating his food by himself. " Is this seat taken," I ask him, and then he shakes his head and I pull out my chair to sit down next to him. " How have you been since the last tournament. And what have you been up to?"
" Winning," he says simply, and then I feel myself growing a little irritated. I had known he had a bit of an ego, but I assumed that was all for show, and that the real him would be humble. Still, it was nice to be around someone who didn't treat me like I was on some sort of pedestal. (y/n) chuckles, and then I realize I had been thinking out loud.
" You're just a person to me Phyrra," he says as he stands to leave. I smile at his choice of words, and then he turns back to me. " A person I beat." He walks off with this, and normally I would be irritated by his cocky demeanor, and yet I can't help but be happy that I found someone else who simply treats me like a person.

Jaune walks into the dorm, with his scroll in hands, and then he looks over at all of us. " I have good news and bad news guys. Which do you want to hear first?" Nora tells him she wants to hear the good news first, and then Jaune nods at her. " The good news is we get to go on a mission and fight some Grimm. And the bad news is, we have to work with (y/n) on the mission. Apparently, it's too dangerous for us to go alone, and they don't have another team they can send."
Nora looks down dejected when he says this as well, and Ren simply shrugs. I know that the three of them, as well as many students in the school all have been getting irritated with the ego cocky persona that (y/n) has. Because of that, I've been reluctant to admit that he isn't so bad to my team. They don't understand how happy it makes me that he and I have a dynamic which doesn't involve him practically worshiping me or falling over his feet to make me happy. Even if he wears on my last nerve from time to time, he's the closest thing I have to someone I would consider a close friend. Even my team doesn't interact with me with the same casual ease that (y/n) does.
I think all of this, and then we go down to the airship. (y/n) is already there, and then he goes onto the ship when he sees us, and then Ren, Nora and Jaune all find their own corners of the space away from him. They all gesture they saved me a spot, and then I go over to (y/n), and he and I begin to talk about the mission details for a little bit, and then he goes to play some game on his scroll.
Before long, we find ourselves being strafed by a Nevermore Grimm, and then Jaune calls for (y/n) to shoot it out of the sky. I wonder if Jaune knows how hypocritical it is to ignore someone, except for when they need something. The look on (y/n)'s face shows that he clearly knows it, but he stands up and then gestures to the Grimm and surrounds it with part of his aura, and then crushes the Grimm. All of us can't help but be impressed, and then the doors of the ship open and then we all go down to fight with the rest of the Grimm.
(y/n) begins to count out loud, higher and higher which we all assume is the number of Grimm he's killed so far. However, his counting eventually makes Jaune snap. " Is all of this a game to you," he asks angrily, and then (y/n) scoffs at this.
" If it is a game, then I'm winning," he says simply, and then he uses some of his power to blow away all the Grimm. Jaune doesn't say anything else, and then the two of them walk away from each other. After a few hours pass, all of us regroup and then we start to set up our tents for the nights. (y/n) goes into his alone, and then I fall asleep quickly in mine.
When we all wake up, we notice that (y/n) is gone from the rest of the group. We all start to talk about where he is, and then I offer to go look for him, and then they all agree, and then I go to look for him. It doesn't take me too long to find (y/n), and when I do, what I see surprises me a little bit. I find him slumped against the wall, breathing heavily. " I can do this," he keeps repeating to himself. " I need to be the fighter they think I am, I need to be invincible. Okay, I can do this. They're not going to die because they were counting on you."
His words to himself keep repeating, and then he looks up to see me, and then his eyes widen and he takes a step back. Clearly, whatever that had been was not meant for me to see. " Don't tell anyone," he says, a mix of angry and defensive. I don't respond, which causes him to snap again. " I mean it Phyrra!"
" I won't tell anyone," I promise him when I shake myself out of a daze, and then I take a step closer to him. " Do you want to talk about it?" He hesitates for a few moments, and then he nods. I sit down, and he does the same, and he takes a deep breath, and I give him as much time as he needs.
" I know I act like I think I'm invincible. But, the truth is, I'm always worried I'm not who people want me to be. I get worried every time I go on stage, or every time I fight. I'm always worried I'm going to let someone down, and worse that they'll die because they were counting on me, and then I failed them."
" You aren't going to let anyone down," I tell him. " And, I know how hard it is to have everyone seeing you a certain way, and knowing that you have high expectations to live up to. But, I learned that it doesn't matter what they think, so long as you're comfortable with yourself."
" I'm not though," he admits, his voice cracking a little bit. " I always think I'm not doing enough, and I always think that I could be stronger." I don't know what to say when he says this, and I pull him into a hug, which he returns.
" I can help you," I tell him. " I can talk to you whenever you have these doubts about yourself, and I can help you open up to the people at Beacon, maybe help you become more secure so you don't have to bluster this much."
" Thank you," he says.
" It's nothing," I tell him, and then the two of us start to walk back to the rest of my team, and then (y/n) smiles at me, a real smile, not one of his snarky ones he gives for the cameras, or his arrogant smirks, but he gives me a real smile. And for some reason, seeing it makes my heart skip a beat.

You stood with Phyrra and then walked into the dance together. The two of you had been a couple for sometime, ever since she agreed to help you work out your problems with opening up to people, the bluster you presented people with, as well as the insecurities you hid. You smiled at her, and then she returned your smile.
" Thanks again for asking me," she says. You smile at her when she says this, and then she looks down a little bit sadly. " You were the only one who thought they were good enough to come here with me." When she says this, you place a kiss on her forehead, and then she looks up at you.
" I think the people who didn't ask you are stupid," he says. " You're a beautiful, smart, strong and kind young woman. And anyone here at Beacon would be lucky to have you. And, I'm glad you picked me." She smiles at your words, and then the two of you begin to slow-dance. You send her into a spin, and then catch her as she returns to you. The music swells, and then you kiss her deeply and passionately, and she returns the kiss. Right now, everything is perfect and you just couldn't be happier that she's right here with you.
-Timeskip Your Pov-
As Beacon burned all around you, you cursed to yourself as you ran through, killing every Grimm you saw along the way, and trying to get to Phyrra. The two of you had been separated when all of this had started, before you had been able to comfort her about what had happened with Penny. When you eventually managed to find her, you saw her lying on the ground as Cinder stood over her triumphantly, some strange power radiating from her. You cursed when you saw this, and summoned your arrogant persona, needing his bluster to move forward. Moving quickly, you fly in front of Phyrra and then knock the arrows out of the air.
Cinder fired a giant bolt of energy for the two of you, and then you caught it with your hand, and used your aura to dispel the blast. She laughed when this happened, and then begin to talk about the the powers of the Maiden she had gotten, and how far above 'mortals' she was by this point. Seeing as how she was wide open, you flew and then kicked her through a building.
" I'm through with listening to you rambling on. Hurry up and blast me to pieces Miss Maiden." She rose to her feet when you said this, and then she dashed for you, and you flew to meet her. To your surprise, you were managing to keep up with her, although she was beating you back slightly. Using an opening, you grabbed her face and then slammed her into the ground. " What's the matter? Is this all the power a Maiden has?"
She sent a flare of energy out when you said this, and then the two of you continued to fight. You were being burned severely, and cut up by the glass, however she wasn't getting to do this damage for free, since she was being bruised and receiving multiple injuries. " What's wrong? Can't all your power as a Maiden keep up with all my speed?" She growled when you said this, and began to go on another rant.
Taking advantage of her confusion, you placed your hands together and summoned an orb of blue energy, and began pouring all of your aura into it. Lightning crackled around it, and then Cinder went to strike you down. Before she could however, you saw Phyrra rise to her feet, and block the attacks. She jumped out your way, and then you fired your blast, and widened the radius when Cinder tried to dodge.
When the dust cloud from it had settled, Cinder was nothing but a pile of ashes, and you were left leaving heavily. Some light flew into Phyrra, which seemed to restore all of her injuries, and then she came over and the two of you shared a big hug. " Thank Oum I was in time," you tell her, and she pulls away from you, to pull you into a kiss.
" I love you so much," she says.
" I love you too," you tell her, and then the two of you hold each other until the evacuation comes.
-Epilogue Your Pov-
You sat on the couch with Phyrra, and then your daughter, Scarlet came into the room. She was a beautiful girl, with her mother's long red hair, and your eyes. When you saw her, you were reminded again of how far you had come since you had managed to beat Salem with the help of everyone else. It turned out when you had killed Cinder, the powers of the Fall Maiden had gone to Phyrra. The two of you married when the war was over, and had since moved in together, and she had given birth to Scarlet.
" Which one of you is stronger," says Scarlet, curiously, causing you and Phyrra to laugh. Ever since the two of you had announced you were a couple, people had been asking you this, and you supposed it was only a matter of time before Scarlet got around to asking as well.
" Me," both you and Phyrra said at the same time, and then you started to jokingly debate it, making Scarlet laugh as she tries to follow the debate. Neither you or Phyrra cares all that much with one of you is stronger, but you both love making your daughter laugh.
" I squeezed Scarlet out," Phyrra points out, her usual trump card. " All eight pounds of her!"
" I've been kicked in the dick, and that's way more painful!" You and Phyrra begin to argue about it for a little bit, still playfully. " You sometimes talk about wanting another child, but I will never ask for another kick in the dick!"
This goes on for awhile, before Scarlet gets bored with watching, and then she goes back to your room. " I love you," you tell Phyrra, suddenly serious, and then she kisses you.
" I love you too," she says. " But, I'm stronger." You laugh when she says this, and then tackle her to the ground, and begin to kiss her passionately as you hold her. It doesn't matter which one of you is stronger, as long as the both of you are together.
( let me know what you think)
