A good place to live
-Your Pov-
You sighed as you stood leaning on the tree. It was raining, and you were doing the best you can to keep yourself dry. A bottle of beer sat in your hand, mostly empty. Draining the last of it, you quickly found another one in your jacket pocket. As you drank, you looked over and watched the funeral that you had driven your client to. You couldn't make out anything the people were saying, or who had die, and the truth is you didn't care. You had been to far too many of these for any of them to stand out as unique anymore. Still, there was some small part of you that was still sorry to hear about their loss.
You had no idea how much time had passed, but then the old lady you had driven with walks over to you. She says some things to you, and you nod and lead her back to the car you had driven her in with. As the two of you drove, she kept looking at you like she was trying to place where she knew you from. " You used to be a huntsman didn't you," she asks. " This makes you roll your eyes and keep driving.
" No such thing as heroes," you tell her simply. She continues to protest what you said, and then you ignore her and keep driving. Eventually, you make your way to her house and drop her off. she tells you that she needs to go inside to get the check for you, and so you roll your eyes. As she goes into the house, you wait for her outside, standing on the car. The question she had asked you earlier keeps irking you, and before you have time to process it, you feel a tap on your shoulder and then you look over to see a woman, carrying a girl. Interestingly enough, the girl with her has black hair which ends in red tips, and has silver eyes.
Before you have time to wonder for a little bit about the fact that the girl looks familiar to you, the woman with you keeps talking rapidly, saying something about how she needs you to drive her to the border. She keeps talking and talking to you, and then it starts to get on your nerves. " Please," she says at the end. " You used to be a hero."
When she says this, you've finally had enough, and then you get into the car when you get paid for having driven her to the funeral. You then drive off angrily, and then head down to the hospital. Walking in, you then go to the counter and talk with the man who worked there. Once he finishes with the transaction, you go back into your car. To your surprise, someone with gray hair sits in the back seat. " Can I help you with something," you ask him simply. He smirks when you say this.
" I'm Mercury Black," he says. " I work for Salem. She's been looking for someone recently. So, I just wanted to know if you had seen her. Young girl. She has black hair, that ends in red tips, and then silver eyes." When he says this, you feel some strange urge to protect her, and so you shake her head. Mercury sighs at this. " Well, let me know if you do," he says, handing you a card and then getting out of the car. As soon as he's out of sight, you toss the card away, and then drive off to the house you've been staying in.
Going in, you then find Ozpin sitting in his wheelchair. He looks over to you, and then you toss him the medicine you picked up earlier. He takes it, and then looks at you, asking how your day was. " It was fine," you tell him simply. Ozpin keeps looking at you, and so you sigh. " I saw a girl today with silver eyes. Salem is already looking for her." Ozpin nods when you say this, and then looks like he's thinking about something. Before you can walk off, he calls out for you.
" Was the girl you and Summer's daughter," he asks, and then you stop and freeze. It then hits you that the girl had looked exactly like Summer had. But, you roll your eyes. Whoever the girl was, she wasn't your daughter. " She could be what we need to win the war against Salem." You tolled your eyes when he said this. Even now, with most of the huntsman gone and with more and more people being born without Semblances, Ozpin still went on and on about the war, like it was years ago and the world was still normal.
" The war is over Ozpin," you told him. " Salem won years ago." He looks at you for a few moments when you say this, and looks like he's thinking about saying something. When he keeps thinking about it, you then roll your eyes and start to walk off again. However, before you get too far, he then calls out after you, and you turn around. Ozpin clears his throat again and sighs and then nods like he's decided. " What is it Ozpin," you ask, tired of his antics and just wanting to be alone.
" Would you have said the war is over and given up like this if Summer had been here," he asks. You stop, and then turn to glare at him. He looks at you, still like he thinks is his question is justified. Popping your claws out, you notice two of them are the normal length, while the third has gotten stuck in your knuckle. Growling, you don't even bother to respond to his question. Instead, you walk off, ignoring the pain as you dragged the claw out to the normal length, and then you sat down at the table, wondering what your next move was going to be.
Your scroll keeps blowing up, and so you reach to pick it up and see it's from an unknown number. Picking it up, you see the texts are her claiming to be the woman you had met earlier with the girl who looked like Summer, promising that if you meet her, she can explain everything to you and it'll all make sense to you in the end. Rolling your eyes, you put the scroll away and then go to the car and climb in. For some reason, she has you curious and you find yourself driving to the location she gave you.
Once you reach the location, you then drive in and then walk inside. To your surprise, the room is more or less completely covered in blood. " Jesus Christ," you mutter to yourself as you look around the room, trying to find anything. Using your enhanced senses, you then pick up that someone is still here, and you go over to the closet and rip the door off it's hinges. Inside, you see the girl with silver eyes crouched into a fighting stance, poised for an attack. " Come on. You're gonna come with me," you tell her.
She looks like she wants to protest it, but then she nods and walks to you. Nodding, you take her to the car, and she goes into the backseat. Getting into the car, you then drive with her back to your house. Outside, Ozpin stands with a smile on his face, like he knew this was going to happen the entire time. Getting out of the car, he opens his mouth to say something. " Not one word," you tell him, and then you walk past him into the house, going to your room and locking the door behind you.
Hours pass, and then there's a knock on your door. Angrily, you open it, and then Ozpin walks in. " Her name is Ruby Rose," he says. " She told her mother was indeed Summer Rose, and that her father was Taiyang. And I can tell she has a Semblance (y/n). She might be exactly what we need for this to work, to win the war." You glare at him when he says this, and then look over to see Ruby nibbling on a cookie, and then you snicker.
" And what is her Semblance? Eating cookies," you ask angrily. Ozpin then sighs softly, and then walks off as you slam the door in his face, before you go to lie back down on the bed. As you try to go to sleep, you then hear the sound of knocking on your door. Rolling out of the bed, you go down and open it to see Mercury, with a whole squadron of soldiers with him. " Can I help you," you ask him again, cursing mentally, and hoping Ozpin knows to hide the girl and himself. Mercury smiles slightly.
" I think you can," he says. " The girl we talked about earlier? I know she's here. Just turn her over to me and everything will be okay." For one horrible moment, a part of you wants to do that. But then you think about how much like Summer she looks, and you find yourself unable to. The next thing you know, you've popped your claws, and then stab Mercury in the stomach. The rest of his soldiers all start shooting for you, and then you find yourself behind cover. A few moments later, Ruby walks out of the house.
Before any of the soldiers can do anything, she then pops out claws, two on each hands. Your eyes widen as you realize this makes her your daughter, and then she dashes at the men, leaving behind a trail of roses, which you realize must be her Semblance. She then begins to cut down all the soldiers at a rapid pace, faster than you can even process. When she finishes, she stands breathing heavily, and covered in blood. " Let's go," you tell her, before dragging Ozpin and Ruby to the car, and then speeding off quickly, trying to escape the rest of the soldiers driving after you.
" Where are we going," asks Ruby. You sigh when you look at her, the realization that this is your daughter finally setting in for you, and the realization that you and Summer had had a daughter for you. Ozpin looks at you, and sees you have the same realization as he is having, and then you look out the window. As she asks the question, you look at the woman from earlier scroll, and go through all the texts she had sent, and sigh, in disbelief you even considered saying this.
" We're going to Haven. Children with Semblances and aura have been spotted there. If we can make it there, then we should be save, at least for a little bit from the people like Mercury and Salem," you say, and then Ozpin and Ruby both nod in the car. As you keep driving, a silence falls over all of you, as all three of you find yourself deep in thought. For you, the only thing you can think is that you and Summer had had a daughter together and she had never told you this before she had died.
" I know somewhere we can stay," says Ruby eventually, and then you look over to her. " My mom used to live there with me and dad and my sister. It's a nice house in the country side, completely off the grid. If it's still there, she put an enchantment on it which means our aura can be hidden when we're in the house." A small smile graces your face when you realize that one last time, Summer has been your savior. Ruby gives you the instructions to where to get to the house, and so you drive off to it.
Once all of you make it to the house, you go inside, and then look around. Ruby goes to where her room used to be, and then smiles and goes to sleep in her bed. Ozpin then goes to sleep in the couch, but then he stops and looks at you. " This could have been yours," he says simply. You nod when he says this, not knowing what to say, and not even being able to be angered. Had you taken a chance on Summer, this could have been your house with her. Ozpin then sighs and goes to lie down on the couch, and so you go to the master bedroom to sleep for the night.
Before you can manage to get to sleep, Ruby walks into the room with you. " I couldn't sleep," she admits after a little. " I was wondering if we could talk?" You nod, and then she climbs up on the bed with you. " When I was growing up, mom told me a lot about you," she says, and then you look at her. " I always knew that deep down you were my father and not Tai. She still loved you."
You sigh when she says this, not knowing what to say to the answer. Evidently, Ruby doesn't know what else to say either, and so the two of you sit in an awkward silence. " What exactly are you," she asks eventually, and then you sigh again, and begin to think about how best to answer all of that, and then you keep thinking as Ruby looks at you with curiosity, and you sigh, wondering what exactly Summer has told her about yo, and then you stand up and look out the window of the house.
" Nature made me a freak, man made me a weapon and then God made it last too long," you tell her eventually, and then she nods, and you go back to the silence the two of you had been in for a long time. She then hugs your leg, and you smile a little and go back to looking out the window.
-Timeskip your pov-
As time goes on, you find yourself enjoying your life in the house a little bit. Ruby reminds you so much of Summer, and you find yourself being able to slowly but surely form a daughter and father relationship with her. One day though, all of it comes tumbling down when the door is burst open and then soldiers begin to flood in.
Mercury stands with them all, and then smirks. " Could have just given me the girl and this all would have been okay." Popping your claws, both you and Ruby fight together side by side, managing to take care of all of them with ease, fighting side by side with her as you had with Summer. It may not have been the time or place for it, but you were so proud of her.
" Kinda figured this would happen," Mercury admits. " It's why we brought him." He then gestures to a scorpion faunas, with a deranged look in his eyes. " His name is Tyrian. I thought it might be fun to bring him and make this a little more personal." You wonder what he means when he says it'll be personal, since you've never seen Tyrian before in your life.
" The girl will be the second Rose girl I got to kill," he says simply. " The first was her mother. Summer Rose." Tyrian cackles when he says this, and then you growl when you look at him, and then pop out your claws. He smirks with glee, and then the two of you throw yourselves at each other, and then start to take chunks out of each other, locking in a death match right away.
You have no idea how long you end up fighting for, but in the end he falls and doesn't get up. Looking down, you see that a puddle of your blood and his has mixed on the floor, along with the purple of his poison. Stumbling, you then look over to see that Ruby and Ozpin have managed to get rid of the rest of the soldiers. Smiling a little, you then fall onto your back.
Ruby runs over to you, and then holds your hand as you bleed out. A small smile is on your face, even when you realize this is it. Your healing factor had burned out a long time ago, from injuries sustained over lifetime after lifetime of fighting. Ruby looks at you with tears in her eyes as she holds her hand. " Daddy," she says, choked up and unable to say anything else. " Daddy," she says again.
" So that's what it feels like huh," you mutter, not really having felt anything like this, and so you lie back and wait with an almost peaceful look on your face. You can see the light, and in it, Summer and everyone you had known before. But before you can go, you look over to see Tyrian look up at you, barely alive.
" At least I fought for something other than myself, for a cause," he says spitefully. " What did you ever do," he asks, and the rest of his life then leaves him slowly.
As he asks the question, you keep thinking about it. What had you done? As you ask yourself the question, you then think about everything. The fighting, the time you spent at Beacon Academy, your team, your friends, your relationship with Summer, and then your time with Ruby in the house. " Enough," you say finally as an answer to his question. Finally, you then walk into the light, it being so bright that it's blinding for a long time.
Once the light settles, you find yourself standing in the field, and you look around. Someone in a white cloak looks at you, and then runs over, the hood falling off, her red and black hair flowing and her silver eyes shining. Your eyes widen when you see her, Summer Rose. When she gets close to you, she hops and hugs you, and you hold her close.
" I missed you so much," she says happily. " Thank you so much for making sure Ruby survived." She then peppers you with kisses happily, making you blush the tiniest bit. " This is the afterlife. From what I can gather, this is Heaven."
" Then someone made a mistake," you tell her. " I don't belong here." When you say this, she wraps her arms around you in a hug, pulling you so close to her.
" Yes you do," she says. " Listen to me. I watched you every day from up here. And, I fell in love with you all over again. And now that we're together...I want to be with you again. Together," she says. You give the smallest nod, and then she kisses you passionately and deeply, and then you return the kiss happily.
After the kiss, Summer then takes you to see the house which Ruby has begun to live in, and she rests her head on your shoulder. " You spent your whole life looking for a good place to die. But this? This is a good place to live."
( let me know what you thought)
