Chapter 5: Young Blood

Terry held his breath as he steadied his bow, the string pulled taunt. The target sat at the other end of the rage a hundred feet out, the small cross hair in the bow magnified and he lined up right on the bulls eye. "Easy now.." He smiled a little. "Perfect."

A female voice shouted from behind him, breaking his concentration as the arrow fired. "Choke!"

Terry jumped in surprise and the arrow went wide, hitting the far corner of the target. The display above the shooting range posted his score, coming in at second place. He groaned and turned to face the girl, who was laughing hysterically. "Ha ha, very funny Ellie."

The girl was hugging her stomach as she laughed and looked up at him with one eye, her light brown hair covering the other. "Sorry, but your reaction was priceless!"

The boy rolled his eyes and gave her a light hand chop on her head. "You little cheat. You just wanted to keep your high score."

Ellie laughed again and stood, her brown eyes full of mischief. "Well if you can't handle distractions how do you expect to earn the top spot?"

"She's got a point." Another voice chimed in. Terry turned to his friend and gave him a dirty look. "Don't encourage her Reggie!"

The other boy laughed and shrugged. "What do you want me to say? Nice job missing the target, the Grimm you missed is now eating you?" He walked over and clapped him on the back with a chuckle. "In that case, you get a gold star."

Terry slugged his team mate on the arm. "Shut it bozo, you're the worst shot out of all four of us!"

Ellie laughed again. "Now HE has a point!" Reggie frowned and tackled the bubbly girl to the ground, wrestling with her. "Think that's funny? I'll show you what's funny!" The girl squealed with laughter and looked at their fourth team member. "Xenia! Help me!"

Xenia looked over at her wrestling friends from the book she was reading and smiled sweetly. "Mmm...no, I think you got it." She shook her head and her short pink hair swished from side to side. She readjusted her glasses and went back to her book, legs swaying from the tree branch she was seated on. Ellie gave her a look as she laughed, Reggie now tickling her. "You traitor!"

Terry laughed at the group and shouldered his bow. They had all met during initiation in the Emerald Forest and had immediately clicked, all of them getting along as soon as they got together. The team had already been through a lot during their time here at Beacon, with a few good Grimm hunts under their belts. They had even been present during the the train wreak battle, working together to take down a group of Beowolves. Terry smiled as he looked over his team one by one, proud of each member.

Ellie was the giggly girl with short brown hair and brown eyes. She wore a light red battle dress with detached sleeves and a tall pair of brown boots. She was the first person Terry had met at Beacon and the two stuck together immediately. She always had a smile on her face, happy and energetic with no real signs of slowing until her head hit the pillow at lights out.

The guy she was wrestling with was Reggie, a darker skinned boy the same age. His hair was done into short black dreads with faint green highlights that matched his eyes. He was largely built for his age, standing the tallest and being the bulkiest of the group. But his appearance often fooled people into thinking he was just some big brute when in reality he had quite the soft side. Ellie laughed as they rolled around, Reggie's dark green hoodie now covered in dirt. The two of them roughhoused all the time, Ellie's rough and tumble personality being a perfect match for the large Vacuo boy. The only one who didn't join in was Xenia, which didn't surprise anyone much.

Xeina was the quiet one of the group, never really getting involved in the rough stuff with the others. Her timid attitude contrasted heavily with the energy that Ellie had, but the two girls were like sisters either way. She had short pink hair that ended just above her shoulders with bangs that ran a little longer and wore a pair of deep blue glasses. Her outfit consisted of a navy blue skirt and white school uniform shirt with a pair of long socks and some plain white shoes. The girl glanced up from the book sh was reading and rolled her eyes at the two. "Do you ever stop?"

Ellie flipped Reggie over and put him in a headlock, sitting on his back triumphantly. "Of course not! Regg's to stubborn to admit when he's been beaten!"

Terry laughed and felt his Scroll vibrate, the communicator beeping an alert as he looked it over. "Fun's over guys, just got a briefing call." Ellie let her friend go and stood, helping him up. "Any details?"

Terry shook his head. "Not yet, just to meet in the map room pronto." He broke his bow into its sword form, the weapons long grip separating and turning the ranged weapon into two blades which he sheathed on his back in a cross. "Better not keep him waiting."

The others nodded in agreement, falling in behind him as they walked back into the school, each wondering what their next mission would entail.

  -----------------------------------------

Jaune was looking over the Vale map when Terry and his team came in. He turned and smiled, hands behind his back. "Thanks for coming you guys. We got some work to do."

Terry's team fell in and stood around the map display. For a team so young they had a very professional look and attitude to them, the students standing straight at attention as Jaune addressed them. He liked that about T-REX, solid Hunters to the bone. The older boy raised a hand to signal they could relax. "Right, lets get to it." He keyed in a few commands and a variety of holographic reports came onto the display. "A few hours ago the computer picked up on unusual activity going on at the docks on the east side of Vale. All the red flags went up, so we know that its Grimm."

He cycled to a video clip taken from a security camera. The video was black and white and showed a maze of large shipping crates. What stood out on the tape was the shadowy figure moving in and out of one of the crates in the back, the videos quality making identification impossible. "This footage was taken over the course of a few nights, the figure coming back and forth to this same crate throughout." He paused the video on the figure. "People have complained about strange noises coming from this part of the shipyard but no one has gone to investigate seeing how the yard is no longer functioning." Jaune shut the video off and turned back to the group. "As you know, part of the Grimm Walker operation is to investigate all Grimm species, know or unknown. This time is no different. The computer hasn't matched our figure with any Grimm types in the database, as per the norm around here, so the species is an unknown one. Your job is to go and investigate the shipping crate, find out whats inside, and take care of whatever this thing may be. Any questions?"

Terry raised his hand. "What about local security or civilians?"

Jaune nodded at him. "This'll be a night op, so the yard will be clear of anyone that could create a distraction or risk. Ill let local enforcement know were coming and will let you know if anything changes"

"And if its hostile?" Reggie asked, although they all knew the answer.

"If the Grimm turns out to be a threat, put it down. Hard. Bring it back for classification if you can, standard protocol." He waited for more questions but none came. This was nothing new to T-REX, and they knew what they were doing. Jaune couldn't help but be proud of them. "Alright, you leave in three hours. Gear up and meet at the landing pad for deployment. Dismissed."

The students nodded and each gave a salute, Jaune smilling as he returned it. "Good luck, and good hunting."
