23. Family Saga 😔

Chapter Twenty three of Ruthless.
There is fire on the mountain my people 🔥

If houses collapse by people's yelling, the Brown's Mansion should have a long time ago. Especially when Nathan and his Dad opened their mouths so wide.

"Kate!"

"Kate come down here! If I call you for the third time, hell breaks in this house "

Nathan's eyes fixed on the stairs that probably would lead Kate to him. He turned his eyes for a second, and wished he didn't. "Stop mum. Stop it or you won't see me here for a long time. You've done your worse and have allowed you." He said, bringing his voice down. "If you keep letting Kate have her way all the time because she's the only girl in this house, you won't be able to handle the outcome. She's not your twin, and as a mother, every one of your children regardless of what gender should be disciplined by you. No more she's the only girl, and I don't want to ever hear that in this house. Again."

Mrs. Brown remained quiet before she took a deep sigh. "I'm sorry Nathan. She's just looking out for her brother. She warned me not to come, and just speak to you later about it, but I couldn't hold it in either. Please just leave her alone cause she locked herself up the moment she heard your voice. I'm sorry son." Mrs. Brown's eyes pleaded. "I'm sorry for putting us out there. I just can't picture you being with someone like her. It's a stain to your dignity my darling. I know you don't go about sleeping around and I respect you for that. I know you will make a wonderful husband and a father. I just don't trust that girl and I just didn't want you to lose focus."

"Focus! What nonsense is that all about!" Mr. Brown made his way in, his eyes burning into his own wife. He was coming back from a meeting he had with his investors when he heard the news. His wife causing nuisance, just exactly how bloggers put it, letting some people hurl insults on his wife and his family. Mr. Brown showed his wife the video from his phone. He hated seeing his image being trampled on. He hated to see his family being disrespected. The image his son's had built and how respectful people treat them should not be stained by a scandal. "What were you thinking to stoop so low to a girl like that. What's your business if she has anything to do with Nathan. He's not a kid and I've told you several times you can't decide for them. How can you act that way to a grown up man like him. When did you see any of my friends' wives behave the way you do. They don't disgrace them in public woman!"

"Dad it's okay." Nathan watched the two. He could see his Dad's annoyance was more than his own. He didn't want them to fight over what can be settled. Seeing the change in his mum's eyes, Nathan quickly came in between the two facing his Dad before the worse could happen. "She's starting to cry so please stop."

"Let her cry for all I care. Ask her how I met her before we started going out together. And you," Mr. Brown turned to Nathan. "Why do you have to get yourself messed up by a girl like that. Keep your romance away from your work place and be serious with your girlfriend."

Immediately, Mr. Brown yelled again. "Kate will you come down here my friend."

"Are you done throwing it into my face." Mrs. Brown's expression was directed towards her husband. "You should appreciate me every.. sin..gle.. time!" She took the word one by one raising her voice with so much anger in it. "Marrying someone like you was one of the toughest decision of life, so never in your entire life yell who I was to my face ever again! Never again Richard! Never I repeat!"

The two men turned to Mrs. Brown whose reason for getting angry wasn't clear to them yet. Nathan was speechless at his Mum's outburst but he kept quiet. Mrs. Brown faced her husband and it doesn't look like she was joking. "I wasn't born with a silver spoon but we weren't poor either. It's my son and he has someone he wants to marry. I wouldn't let anyone come from no where and take all that away from him. I want him to have a better home than I did. And you better stop raising your voice at me in front of my children. Because if you do again, nobody will sleep in this house!" Mrs. Brown's eyes were no longer ready for tears but war, hitting every note with all the strength she had left. Passing every word without having to yell too hard like the men surrounded by her. She held her husband's eye. "You better act responsibly and teach my sons how to respect women. And if you don't know!" Mrs. Brown was yelling now. "I cry every time I see them becoming just like you. Selfish, arrogant, self-centered, Cruel, Sadistic bastard like you! Do you think it's easy putting up with you Richard! Always throwing who you are to my face knowing I have no choice because my whole family depends on you!"

A smirk appeared on Mr. Brown's face. "You are very stupid for saying all that to me." His eyes darkened in fury as he gritted his jaw walking back to his wife. "Thank God you know that. From their hospital bills, to their expenses, foodstuff, travelling, their pocket money... comes from the same man you are raising your voice at. Since you are capable, I'm stopping all the money I send to your siblings this month. And you better beg your sons to pay for your mum's ticket back to Nigeria since you have other means. Be careful woman." He pointed his index finger at her.

"You jerk! You are nothing but a bastard!" Mrs Brown's eyes were back with tears.

"Dad. Dad no." Nathan quickly came in between them when he saw his Dad losing his belt. He had witnessed this several times and it breaks his heart every time. At this moment, his Dad was stronger than him. A hard push was enough to get Nathan out of the way, letting him listened to the slapping sound of the belt hitting his mother harshly. The most disturbing sound Nathan hated his entire life. He stepped back, his eyes giving room for tears, so pained, because even at thirty one, he still couldn't do anything. Just a helpless boy in man's body. When he turned, Kate was by the stairs looking at her brother with a tear rolling down to ease her pain.

"Are you just going to watch him beat her again." Her mouth trembled, tears flowing down her cheeks, knowing she couldn't even trust her brother either. "I hate you all for allowing this. All of you are just like him." She cried before escaping back to her room as always.

When Mr. Brown had his fill. He didn't feel remorseful but furious even more. "I will not let a woman control me in my house! Talk less of someone I made and feed her entire family. Leave my house or you stop disgracing me." He waved his hand at his son. "Nathan I'm not in the mood to hear you say how I should have just left her alone. She will never learn. The pot calling the kettle black. Clean up this mess and tell her to keep her mouth shut." Mr. Brown walked away.

Nathan watched his mum on the floor. He didn't even know what to say to console her. He hated being present to witness this and couldn't even do anything to stop it. Her mum cried out in pain, her eyes staring down at the rug she sat on before slowly covering up her body filled with marks.  "Mum," Nathan embraced her. "You need to go to your room."

Mrs. Brown moved away, wiping her tears. "I'm fine. You should check on your sister." She said, looking as if nothing happened to her few minutes ago even with her eyes red from crying. "I'm sorry if I haven't played my part well by coming to your place of work." She apologized, sincerity in her voice. "I was just worried when the news came at the time I heard you bought a car worth of fifty million naira for your PA too. I thought it was too expensive and this Tacha of a girl could see that and want to stay with you because of your money even when you have a girlfriend."

Nathan was mature enough to hide his emotions right now. He listened to his mum, letting her calm herself down and as well speak her mind. Of course, Nathan would never have told her until a month or weeks later, but he understood his mum have ears among his staff and he was going to deal with that first. Nathan knew he had to respond. He knew he had to say something to calm his mum down to keep her from walking around the house with her chest heavy, getting angry at every one especially her workers. "Mum calm down." Nathan said before kissing his mum's face multiple times. He reached for his mum's hand. "Dad and I are sorry. How dare us make the mother of this house angry. Who will take care of us? And of course, I know I'm never granted the authority to shout at my wife in future. Dad is trying his best. He will come around soon. You know he loves you. We all know he won't do all that he said at the end."

Mrs. Brown rolled her eyes. "That's his problem. I have my money too." She allowed Nathan to hold her, moving closer to him. "Don't you think the car is too expensive darling? G-wagon is like fifty million naira if not more than that. You can't be spending money like that no matter how Good your heart is. Ladies will take it for granted."

Nathan shook his head, placing his hand on his mum's shoulders. He smiled down at her this time before explaining what his mum didn't see aside from an expensive car. "Mum, Tito deserve more than that. I make millions every week because of her huge contributions to show up at places I couldn't. Tito travels every month for me to close some deals worth millions of naira with my top representatives at the office, appearing as my eyes and ears. Some days in every week, she has to visit every of my company to see what's happening and how much we are making. Who is cheating who?" Nathan explained slowly to his mum.

"She lets me know workers who are becoming unfaithful rather than joining them to steal money from me knowing I'm not always around or present. You know how much she would have by now if she has agreed with these people to account fake figures to me. Mum, that girl is faithful to me. She knows what enters the companies account because they get to her before she gets to me. That is why I treat her well. She deserves something expensive than this. I know she barely rest even at night because there are research she has to make before we meet with some certain people. This is also the reason why I allow her on vacation once a year to rest and have all the fun she could have. In case you've heard I'm planning to let her visit Paris, now you know the reason why. It's my money, but I'm buying most of her time and she deserves to see the result to work even harder. Mum, remember you always tell me to respect the women in my life."

"Jeez! What's this? You better let her get angry and get used to it now." Mr. Brown rolled his eyes at those two. He came back to the living room to see those two when he noticed they were quiet. His mind wasn't settled, but he wouldn't give up his claim to be angry for being disrespected by his wife. "That is how you will keep explaining to your mother and wife if you don't stop now Nathan. If you think that's why she likes you, she will end up marrying you all by herself. May be I can finally get a new wife." Mr. Brown yelled before the door to his room was slammed hard.

Mrs. Brown moved away from Nathan, turning her gaze to her husband's direction. "You should be fast about it please. Let's see who will tolerate you." She stood up. "He thinks highly of himself." Mrs. Brown hissed. "My darling, let me tell them to prepare Chicken for you." She held Nathan's face with her hands. "I will see the doctor so don't worry, I will be fine."

"Okay mum." Nathan was pleased to hear that. His mum was back to herself. "I won't be sleeping over though. Go and make peace with your husband please." Nathan climbed the stairs, a small smile playing on his lips before he threw a wink at his Mum. "Love you. I will check on Kate now."

"Okay. I will call you then. You and Lola should spend more time together my darling. She's good for you "

Nathan was no longer smiling. He nodded instead. "Understood Mum." He turned quickly, walking towards his sister's room. At the mention of Lola, that made Nathan remember what he had in his pocket. He dipped his left hand into his pocket feeling the lace panties with his hand, images flashing back as sounds played in his memory. He got distracted dipping his hand into the other pocket for his phone which was vibrating. "What's up bro "

"Good bro." Anthony replied. "Just want to inform you I delivered the package to Tacha. I'm sure you are over the obsession by now. And...I'm not sure you know yet. Jamal is back. Be careful out there with him bro. See you at your place "
