even though i took a long time to put these all together (for the newer covers, over a month; for the whole theme, technically 4 years LMAO) i'm going to speed-run this update's accompanying bayports-essay just because i have a lot of RUSSIAN DOLL updates in my backlog and not a lot of patience for typing these up 🤣 nihaarika and i are besties anyway so she knows how avoidant i am with these things.

          once again, welcome back to RUSSIAN DOLL, n! for those who don't know (which is... everyone, since i don't know why anyone else would know, HAHA) nihaarika requested some covers for her anime and manga fics. i'd previously made the covers for her dc stories (see DC QUARTET in the highlights above) as a prize for placing in my 600-followers competition way back when; in a previous RD update i made her a cover for her new rick flag fic SHADOW, too. because i had already made five covers for her, and had a couple more on the way, i figured: fuck it! let's make nihaarika a cover / account theme!

so here we are. this theme was made with intense colours, mostly to match with the original DC QUARTET covers i made that were updated a little for 2025. because their colourings were so vivid, i wanted everything else to be on the same level. SHADOW, which can be seen above in the highlights section, was adjusted slightly to fit the new colour scheme. however, i won't discuss it in too much depth since there's already an update pertaining to it in RD. feel free to scroll back if you're interested!

          the sub-set of covers for nihaarika's HAIKYUU TRILOGY are what i'm proudest of, mostly because i love combining red and pink and haven't been able to do so for some time. i kept these covers clean, simple, and light, despite the intensity of the colours used. i'm very happy with how they, as well as the whole theme, turned out. i'm even happier to know that nihaarika is satisfied with what i've made for her.
