i've been really leaning into gritty, grainy textures lately which i think i've finally gotten the hang of with these covers. this update technically makes karla a member of the "return customer" club, though in this case, because i made this cover without necessarily being asked to, it's more like she signed up to a mailing list and hasn't been unable to unsubscribe from me 🤣 at this point, these updates are like daily newsletters anyway, so whatever, it works out.

          i'm proud to say i am one of the people who is forcing karla to bring back her mcu!pietro maximoff fic, TALK. we both recently rewatched avengers: age of ultron (or, as i call it, avengers: three days of ultron, though no-one laughs whenever i say it, probably because i've said it a thousand times) and although we mostly agreed that it's not the best mcu movie, by a long shot, it's still really enjoyable in comparison to their current offerings. plus, it has atj!pietro, which... casting-wise, still a bit...—and although he served cunt and immediately died—he'll always be remembered. can't believe marvel made the man bleach his hair and killed him off in his first (and only) movie, but... i can't pretend to understand what's going on in kevin feige's head at any given moment.

cover i. is one of my simple-manip-hybrids. not a lot to say about it. once again i used the provided polarr filter that karla's theme adheres to; i was sad to see pietro's icy-blue go, but the green works really well as an accent in this cover. cover ii. is a comic version, using a stormbreakers cover by lucas werneck as its base.

        it's a departure from what i usually do for my comic covers; 99.9% of the time i track down fully textless versions of comic cover art and use them exclusively. in this case, i was unable to get my hands on a high-quality version of this werneck cover, so i ended up editing over it with the relevant text and titling for TALK. in almost any other instance i would just find different art, but for this cover, i really wanted to use werneck's emma frost for karla's oc; matching that up with a werneck!pietro was ideal.

this stormbreakers cover also features steve, clint and wanda, which was just too convenient for what i know of TALK's plot, and the general positioning of those characters in the mcu in both age of ultron and captain america: civil war.

i did debate using russell dauterman, one of my favourite x-men comic artists (both he and lucas were made known to me by my husband, sweetjawregui, so thank you 🧸) but i didn't like his pietro as much. maybe next time!
