19 | ❛A Cry for Help❜

❛ Leave him alone

Heavy breaths filled a narrow hall as a frail girl searched the surroundings in the room with her. She saw mold growing in the ceiling and the smell of rusted water filled her nose. Annabelle Carter scrunched her nose and tilted her neck to her side to stretch and erase the knots on her shoulder. She tried to stretch out her arms when a tight metal pulled her wrist back to the wall where she was chained. Tugging again, Anna let out a cry when the metal snagged on her skin and a drop of blood dropped on the floor. Anna laid her head back against the concrete wall and let out a shaky breath. "I didn't do anything!" she screamed out in distress. She knew no one her head cries and screams, however, she couldn't think of a single reason she would be chained to a wall. She had done all Anthony Ivo had asked, and this was her pitiful reward.

An aroma of growing mold lingered in an empty warehouse and drops of water splashed on the cement floor in the corner of the room. Brown eyes slowly opened and a head full of brown hair lifted slowly with a sense of drowsiness pounding in the back of Annabelle Carter's head. She blinked several times to ease the cloudiness in the back of her eyes and once she could see clearly, she panicked.

She tried to stand but was ultimately yanked back down by the cuffs around her wrists. A soft groan left her mouth as she tried to ease her way out of her restraints but the harder she tried the more it hurt. "Does it hurt?" a voice asked from behind the woman.

Anna strained her neck to see who was talking to her but she didn't need to look far when two hands landed on her shoulders. She flinched and sucked in a large breath while a warm breath blew against her right ear, "Sit tight, Ms. Carter," the person whispered. "It's story time."

Anna slammed against her chair and pulled her restrains as much as she could, "Who the hell are you?!"

"Ah ah ah," the person uttered while waving a finger in front of the brunette's face, "In due time."

"Once 'the Hood' finds out you - "

"Your boyfriend will find you," the man stated simply while grabbed the back of a chair against the back wall and dragging it in front of Anna. Her face fell and she blanked on what to say. "Cat got your tongue?"

Anna narrowed her eyes at the man and opened her mouth to speak before he sat down and shook his head knowingly. "Oliver Queen will find you after I want him to."

"How do you - "

"Stop interrupting me!" the mystery man shouted hysterically while leaping to his feet in anger. Anna flinched.

"Do you know who I am?" he wondered while slowly sitting down again and narrowing his eyebrows. Anna hesitantly shook her head due to not wanting to anger the hysterical man any further. "Should I?"

He laughed. It seemed the man couldn't catch his breath so he grabbed the back of his chair to try and keep himself steady. "She said - " he burst into my laughter while looking somewhere behind me. I tried to see who he was talking to but I couldn't see anyone there. "She said should I!"

"What do you want?" Annabelle demanded with a deep voice to try and maintain order. "I want your boyfriend to test his worth," he explained with a grin. "Are you going to tell me who you are or am I supposed to guess?"

"You keep this up and you're not getting dinner," he reprimanded. "I don't want your dinner," Anna snapped. "Where the hell am I?"

"Oh! Isn't it roomy? I personally wanted a place with a little more sunshine but I needed the curb appeal. Don't really like hearing the highway, you know?"

Anna let him continue. Every time he opened his mouth she heard a clue, however, she couldn't give them to anyone to come find her. Curb appeal, no highway, little sunshine. It seemed like a warehouse, but the Glades had dozens. Anna didn't know where she was.

"The people on the streets," he spoke which got Anna's attention, "They call me the Count. I make the good drugs."

"No drugs are good."

"You're just saying that because you're 'the Hoodess.'"

Anna went silent and stared at the man with the very crazy eyes. "What do you want?" she repeated with a hiss leaving her mouth. Smirking, the Count stood and took several steps closer to the girl. She saw something glimmering in the faint light from the window in his hand and she tensed once she noticed it was a needle. "I heard you had an ulcer problem," he chuckled evilly while nearing the now squirming woman. "What do you want?!"

"Nothing, yet."

As the last word left his mouth, the needle pierced the skin of Anna's neck. She whimpered at the feeling and once it left her neck, the Count took a step back and Anna yanked her head away. She felt nothing for what seemed to be many long seconds. But then the pain all flooded in at once.

She screamed at the top of her lungs as the drug finally made its way into her blood system. She had never felt a pain like this.

Thrashing in her chair and yanking on her restrains to only create more pain, tears slipped from Anna's eyes and the Count smiled. He recorded her reaction on his cell phone and lightly chuckled to himself. He had what he wanted.

He had the 'Hoodess.'

Deep breaths escaped Annabelle's mouth as she sprinted down a narrow corridor and after looking behind her she only ran faster. There was a single door before her so she opened it quickly and slammed it behind her. Sitting on the ground with fear radiating from his eyes, a man looked up upon her entrance and scrambled to his feet. He was immediately slammed against the wall and Anna's hands tightened around the collar of his shirt. "Where is he?!"

The man shook his head and let out a sharp cry, "I don't know," he wept in fear. "Where is Ivo?!"

"I don't know!"

Anna dropped the man and snatched the gun from her waist and cocked it before lifting it up to the man's head. "Please! I don't know where he is!" the man cried while rapidly shaking his head. Anna's jaw tightened and she showed no fear - just as she had been taught. "Please!"

As Annabelle prepared to shoot, the door opened again behind her and she spun around to now point her weapon at the new face. However, it was Sara who walked in and after seeing Anna's gun pointed at her head she raised her hands in surrender and her eyes lost the shine they had previously.

After seeing who it was, Anna dropped her weapon and clicked the safety on before returning it to her holster. "Sara, I - "

Clapping caught Anna off and she looked behind the blonde who was now the head of a parade with Ivo right behind. "Congratulations, Ms. Carter," the man smiled while stopping in the middle of the room with Sara taking a step back with a frown on her face. She felt ashamed that she knew Anna was being tested and only watched. It was her fault all this was happening. Anna was training to be a fighter to protect her, and she was abusing that. "You passed my test."

"What test?" Anna shakily responded. She was clearly scared after pulling a gun on the girl she swore to protect and coming so very close to murdering an innocent man. "I wanted to know if you would give up or keep going. Now that I have my answer, I know I can count on you. Welcome to my team," he said with a nod before turning around and beginning to walk away. "This was a test?" she gasped in disbelief. "Oh, Ivo, I have half a mind to - " she began while walking toward him. "To what?" he interrupted while turning to face her. "Kill me?"

A laugh escaped his throat and he shook his head, "I saved your life and Sara's. This is who you are Annabelle. I'm simply helping you become your true self."

"This is not who I am!" Anna shouted. "This is who you have made me!"

Ivo shrugged, "What is it you are always hearing, Annabelle? Shengcun, right? Survive, Annabelle. That's what we are all trying to do, isn't it?"

As the words left his mouth, Ivo turned to walk away. He made it out the door when Anna turned to the man and ordered him to return to his cell and once he was gone, Anna looked to Sara. The blonde looked as if she was going to open her mouth but Anna walked away and slammed the door before she could call out her name.

She was utterly ashamed. And so was Sara.

"Your boyfriend is getting a bit worried," the Count spoke up as he noticed Anna's heavy eyes barely opening. "Of course, the note you left him said it would be difficult to contact you with your many meetings, but he is still worried you won't answer his calls."

Anna looked at her captor and narrowed her eyes, "I didn't leave a note," her hoarse voice whispered. The Count laughed, "Of course you did! Your handwriting and everything! Left it on his bed."

"You were in our home," the girl stated simply. It wasn't a question, more so of an angry statement. "Oliver will call Jordan. He'll realize it's all a lie."

The Count frowned. "I've already spoken with your assistant. He knows what's good for him and his sister. I'm not scared."

Anna yanked on her cuffs again and spat at the floor, "You leave him alone!"

"Don't yell at me," he growled while sitting firmly in his chair with his eyes narrowed. "It's rude."

Anna briefly closed her eyes and took a deep breath before looking at the crazy man before her. "I have half a mind to kill you, but I'll leave that to Oliver."

With a smirk, the Count stood and sauntered gracefully over to the woman in the chair, "I can't wait."
