Ch 9
(A/N This is Xavier's POV on Thursday leading into Friday.)
Conflicts
Xavier
The rest of my week was preoccupied with trying to find out more about the white wolf, predicting where the next sighting of rouges would be; and my interest in Aaron.
I was always running off after History class to the Warriors; that I sent out to track down the rouges about where they had spotted them in different areas of our lands till they ran off to the next pack.
I was beyond frustrated that there wasn't much information to go off of. I was reading a few old books on Thursday night and what I learned about the white wolf, was that it was a powerful and rare as well as wanted by all wolves that were power hungry.
It said that at some point in history someone had used a white wolf and nearly destroyed an entire state but the white wolf had taken its life to protect the few survivors. In the entries from a few of the survivors, they said that the white wolf was beautiful in its wolf form and when it was in it human form it was outstanding.
An entry from a young girl at the time said that the wolf looked at them with sad and loving eyes as tears ran down its face. She also said that the wolf said "Please forgive me for what I have done and take pride in those who fought and died trying to protect what they loved from the destruction I caused. Have mercy on me Moon Goddess for I have not meant to kill my brothers and sisters, if you will give them as they find their way into your loving arms. If there is room for me in your heart Goddess then I will be forever grateful and loved even though I was controlled to do wrong."
She said that everyone was crying after they heard what the white wolf said. They all watched as it grew brighter than anything else but they had to look away or risk damage to their eyes. When they looked back all that was left was white dust that blew away with the wind. I had closed the book up carefully and put it on my nightstand before I pulled my blanket over myself and went to bed.
I had awaken to my alarm clock then went about my morning routine and got ready for school after shutting my alarm off. I went to the kitchen and made myself an omelet that I had quickly eaten before washing the dishes then grabbing my keys and backpack as I got into my car and drove to school.
Calculus and Physics were a breeze as we had taken our first test this week and I knew I aced them. Art was interesting because we had to work in a pair to create portraits of our partners. I had picked Aaron and when we were allowed to see the pieces it felt like I lost my breathe with how much skill he had and the image he made of me was so lifelike that it was unbelievable. Everyone was shocked at the drawing and this embarrassed him.
After the astonishing art experience, I asked the teacher if I could get the portrait Aaron made and she allowed me to have it. Japanese was funny because we were told to have a conversation with the teacher and a good percentage of the students couldn't speak it well but I'd give them the effort for trying. When it was my turn I spoke pretty fluently but missed two or three words.
Lunch was irritating and pretty funny. Nicole had shown up again and was trying to cling to me and honestly I was getting ticked off. I finally had enough and yanked my arm from her pretty roughly because she fell back and out of the booth. She grabbed onto her food by accident to stop herself but wound up with food all over herself.
The entire cafeteria erupt in laughter as Nicole stood quickly. I was trying to hold in my own laughs and it worked to, just in time as she looked at me with tears in her eyes and I wasn't even effected. She took off running and her groupies followed after her. After the cafeteria cooled down I finished off my lunch while chuckling a few times.
I went to History after lunch and zoned out after listening to what the teacher had to say and completing the few papers he handed out. When the bell rang signaling class over, I snapped out of my trance state then grabbed my stuff heading for the courtyard to hang out in free time. While lounging on a bench listening to music through my headphones, I caught the scent of vanilla n honey.
I sat up and looked around till I spotted Aaron who was leaving Ms. Hazel's classroom. I got up and jogged towards him. "Hey Aaron! what are you doing out here?" I asked as I scratched the back of my neck in nervousness. "Oh..hi Xavier, I was just leaving Ms. Havel's class after dropping off the copies she wanted from the copy room," He said.
I concluded that he was a student aid for office and teachers. I noticed that he had a slight trembling. I reached out to him and grabbed his shoulders then brought him closer to me. I heard him gasp in surprise but I didn't mind much as I placed my hand onto his forehead and found out he had a bit of a fever. I was a bit worried but I didn't have a chance to question it because he passed out in my arms.
I picked him up, instantly feeling the warmth his body emitted. I quickly headed to the nurse's office. I opened the door pretty loudly since it startled the nurse. She looked up at me in surprise till her eyes landed on Aaron. "What happened to him?" She asked with concern. Why is she so concerned? She made a motion towards the bed.
I followed her instructions as I placed him down on the bed. "Now I ask you again, what happened here?" She said with a strict yet caring tone. "I saw him in the hallways as he exited Ms. Hazel's classroom. I started talking to him when I noticed he had a slight tremble in his body. I pulled him into a hug and checked his forehead to discover that he had a fever, he passed out afterwards. I picked him up and brought him here as soon as possible, Mrs. Noul," I said with concern laced in.
"I'm glad to hear that you brought him here right away." She said with a small smile as she turned to Aaron and started to check out his body. Aaron whimpered a few times till he turned to his side and scooted as close as he could to me. I smiled at the movement and carted my fingers through his hair until the distinct sound of the bell rang.
I could feel my face becoming stern but it started to soften when I heard a whine come from the bed. I looked down to see hazy turquoise eyes looking up at me. I smiled at him and to my surprise I got a small smile in return. "After checking him out he seems to be fine. Whatever it was that caused him to pass out was that he was dehydrated. Though if he drinks plenty of water then he should be fine to go ahead to class." Mrs. Noul said as she helped Aaron up.
"Ok thank you Mrs. Noul." Aaron said as he started walking towards the door. I got up as well hefting up my backpack as I followed Aaron out the nurse office. "I have to get my stuff from the office before I go to gym class." He said while rubbing his arms like there was an itch he was trying to get rid of. "I guess I'm following you cause we have the same last class." I chuckled out.
He blushed but kept on walking into the office, going to Mr. Smith's office where he grabbed his bag and said a quick good bye before heading back out the front office. I kept an eye on him as we trudged our way through the busy hallways as others either raced or lazily made it to their classes.
We had just entered the gym and felt a body clinging to me. Instantly I knew it was Nicole by the overwhelming smell of perfume and an irritating voice. "Oh Xavier I missed you so much!" She purred at least I think it was an attempt but she failed terribly. I grunted already annoyed by Nicole's voice.
I wanted to knock her out but instead I put on a fake smile and turned to her. "Hi Nicole, how are you?" I asked begrudgingly. "It's been horrible but it's so much better that you're here now." She said flirtatiously. I felt bile rising up my throat but I swallowed it all and pulled my arm from her grasp while I looked around for Aaron. I spotted him sitting on the bleachers but he looked a bit anxious as he looked between John and Nicole then their few groupies. Somehow his anxiety unnerved me but i tried to push it aside.
"Alright everyone gather 'round cause we're about to play dodge ball!" Coach Rick bellowed out before blowing his whistle. We all gathered around then he told us the rules of dodge ball. After he explained everything he blew his whistle which was our signal to play. I had picked my players while my soon to be beta Will had picked his people.
As the game went on people dropped like flies till it was down to Will, Jacob, Luis, Sarah, and Aaron. I believed Sarah was a groupie of Nicole's. Aaron was on my side and he was doing a great job so far by dodging the balls but I could tell it was taking its toll on him.
Jacob had wound up for a throw and when he let it go it went right past me. Before I knew it there was a loud whimper then the sound of a body hitting the wall. I looked over to where Aaron was and saw him against the wall with tears running down his face as he curled up holding his stomach. Seeing those tears and the broken shape of his body set something off inside me that was clawing at the walls of my brain.
"What the hell is your problem?!!" I growled out at Jacob before I ran towards Aaron's side quickly. I carefully picked him up and let him curl into my chest. I told Coach that I was going to watch over Aaron at the nurse office. I went into the locker room grabbed my things then got the combination lock for Aaron's locker and grabbed his things as well.
I took our things and exited the gym ignoring the jealous looks that were given to Aaron and the irritated look from John though when I saw Jacob looking at Aaron I growled out as I hid Aaron further into my chest. Jacob looked away in fear and shock.
I quickly left feeling satisfied of having Jacob submit and ran to the nurse office for the second time today. After Mrs. Noul checked his stomach she put a few cold 'n hot packs on his stomach to reduce the pain. She said other than his stomach hurting and potential brusing that he would be fine. School had let out 10 minutes after I brought him to the nurse office.
I offered him a ride home which he accepted. Once he was out of his gym clothes we headed out of the school and towards my car. I unlocked my car and helped him get in even though he'd protest about me not needing to help him. I climbed in and started the car then drove out of the school lot. "So Aaron where do you live?" I asked stopping at a light. "I l-live about 15 minutes from the school in the Onyx Crescent Pack." He shyly said while playing with the sleeve of his jacket.
I nodded and turned left making a mental note to check out his pack. We reached his house in a matter of minutes. I was surprised to see that he lived in the Beta house. "Hey Aaron, are you going to the party tomorrow?" I asked putting the car in park. "I'm not sure but I might if I feel better or at least if Andria doesn't drag me out of the house to go." He mumbled the last part as he unbuckled his seatbelt and grabbed his bag. "Alright, I hope to see you there." I said patting his back.
I heard him gasp as he scurried out my car. He closed the door, waving at me as he made his way up the stairs and towards the door. I watched him unlock the door and go inside before I put the car in reverse. Driving home I had this suspicious feeling that something was going to happen in the next few days and in all honesty I hoped it was going to be good. But not everything goes the way you want it to even if it was in the hands of the Moon Goddess and fate themselves.
