44| No Outside World

When I carried a very drunk Jamie up to her hotel room, I was expecting to just get her settled in her bed and then leave to go back to my place and finish packing for Paris.

I was not expecting...this. As much as I wanted her, I kept telling myself all day during the wedding and reception that under no circumstances would it be a good idea to kiss, touch, or even sleep with Jamie Lovette.

So when she looked up at me with those aqua blue eyes and told me to kiss her, I couldn't say no. Actually, it seemed like the word 'no' wasn't apart of my vocabulary anymore. Especially when she pushed my jacket off my shoulders and stripped me of my shirt. And the word 'no' was also missing in action when she told me to unzip her dress.

Then it happened. We tumbled into bed together and that was when I took a sharp right turn off of Bad Mistake Avenue onto A Nuclear Disaster Boulevard. Her breathtaking body was beneath mine on the plush mattress. My body was between her thighs—and holy shit, thank God I still had my pants on.

The sight of Jamie with only her black lacey bra and panties on and her fiery red curls spread out over the pillow was almost too much to handle. If I had my pants off? There would be no rational thought that would keep me from making love to her all night long. There was nothing I wanted more in this moment than to know what she felt like when I thrust my cock deep inside her. My body shuddered at the thought.

"Are you okay?" She asked when she pulled away from my kiss. "You're shaking."

Honestly, I was anything but okay. I brushed one of her thick curls out of her face and smiled. "I'm okay, beautiful. Are you okay?"

She smiled at me. Fucking Christ that smile nearly killed me. In the short time I'd known her, I've never seen that expression on her face. "I'm more than good, Ollie." Pulling my head down, she gave me a deep, passionate kiss. "Only one problem, though."

My voice was rough with lust. "What's that?"

"You're still overdressed."

Thunder woke me from a deep sleep. Glancing towards my window I saw that it wasn't raining yet but it definitely looked like a storm was rolling in. Before getting up from the bed I rolled over and looked at Jamie.

She was still sleeping soundly and gloriously naked. The black sheets I had on the bed were up to her waist. Since she was sleeping on her back her plump breasts were plainly visible. Her head was turned in my direction, as it always was when she slept.

God, I wanted her. It took all my restraint not to lean down and take one of her nipples in my mouth. Morning sex was my favorite with her. Of course I loved any type of sex with Jamie, but in the morning her already sexy voice and moans were deeper and throatier.

Leaning down, I settled for brushing her hair back and giving her a soft kiss on her lips. She mumbled my name in her sleep before turning on her side towards me to get more comfortable.

Finally getting up, I grabbed my cell phone before going to the restroom and then slipping on some sweats and walking to the kitchen to make some coffee. While my much needed caffeine started brewing, I thought about the events of last night. Aside from going to the kitchen to cook some dinner, Jamie and I pretty much stayed in bed most of the night. And we didn't only have sex. We talked a lot. Mostly about my parents and the art show and everything. To be honest, I think we were both worried about bringing up the topic of what comes next now that my art show was over. I definitely wasn't looking forward to that conversation.

Suddenly there was a knock at the front door and I frowned. It was just after seven in the morning. Who the hell could that be? Jogging over to the door, I opened it and was very surprised at who it was.

"Jean-Luc? Everything okay?"

He stepped inside the warehouse and I shut the door behind him.  "Yes, everything is fine. More than fine, actually."

"How so?"

"Your art show was a complete success. Not only did all of you are paintings sell, but a lot of other investors and some good friends of mine reached out to me about hiring you for commission jobs."

I stood there for a second, just stunned in silence. Simone had told me about the people who were in Jean-Luc's inner circle. They were important people with a lot of money.

"That's amazing," I finally said. "I can't believe it."

Jean-Luc walked into the kitchen and poured himself a cup of the freshly brewed coffee. "Now, before you accept this offer, I want you to know it involves a lot of travel. Spain, London, Italy. Perhaps a few more places. Now everything as far as expenses will be covered. Including housing. And we can keep this place as your home base, of course."

I found myself shaking my head as I tried to process everything he was saying. "Wait, wait. Travel? Like a lot of travel?"

"Yes," he replied with a frown. "I thought that was the main reason you took my commission job. You said you wanted to travel and see the world and to paint while doing it."

He was right. I did say that. But that was before I walked into a certain coffee shop. I turned my head and stared at the closed bedroom door where Jamie was sleeping.

When Jean-Luc cleared his throat to get my attention, my eyes met his again. Now it was his turn to glance at the closed bedroom door. "Ollie, I won't lie to you. This is more than a once in a lifetime chance. But I want you to be certain. Take your time to think about it."

He sat the coffee mug in the sink before walking towards the front door. With his hand on the knob, he turned towards me. "And Ollie?"

"Yeah?"

Once again, Jean Luke's eyes landed briefly on the bedroom door before meeting mine again and saying softly, "If you turn this down, I will understand completely, mon ami."

Then he left. I stood in the kitchen for what felt like hours just thinking about what he said. He was right about this job being more than a once in a lifetime opportunity. But the traveling was a problem. A big one.

With the coffee forgotten, I walked back to the bedroom. Jamie stirred when I opened the door and looked over at me with a lazy smile that was incredibly sexy.

"Hey, you," she said in that sleepy voice I loved so much.

Walking back over to my side of the bed, I laid down beside her, not surprised in the least when she cuddled up next to me.

I buried my right hand in her hair before using my left to tilt her chin up so I could kiss her. "Good morning, beautiful. Sleep well?"

She nodded against my chest as she curled up next to me even more. "Mhm. I sure did. Hey, it's raining."

My eyes shifted to the window. Yep, the storm I anticipated a half hour ago was finally here. That probably meant Jamie and I weren't leaving the warehouse today. That was fine with me. After the bomb that just got dropped on me I really didn't feel like going out anywhere and being sociable.

"You okay?" She asked me quietly.

It reminded me of that night in the hotel during Harper's wedding. And just like that night, I lied through my teeth.

"Yeah, I'm good."

We stayed like that for a while. Just laying in the bed together with her on my chest as I continued to brush my fingers through her hair. Instead of thinking about the impending future, I kept thinking about the past. More specifically, that day in the coffee shop. I noticed Jamie as soon as she had walked in. I'd been in the middle of sketching the George Washington Bridge in an attempt to settle my nerves for my upcoming trip when my eyes landed on her.

Everything seemed to freeze in that moment. Time just seemed to stop. I couldn't help but watch as she bickered with the barista and then had that uncomfortable call with somebody Cherise gave her number to. And then I couldn't stop myself from speaking to her when she hung up that phone. Everything from then on just pretty much snowballed where Jamie was concerned. Especially my feelings.

"Ollie?"

Jamie's voice brought my attention back to the here and now. "Hmm?"

She looked up at me and I noticed something different about her eyes. I couldn't put my finger on it, though. Couldn't tell if it was a good thing or a bad thing.

Never breaking eye contact, she reached up and stroked my jaw with her soft fingers. "I want to spend today in bed with you, Atticus. Can we do that?"

My chest tightened at her request. "Yeah," I answered roughly. "We can do that."

As I rolled over with her and started kissing her nice and deep, I mentally pushed away any worries I had been thinking about. The only thing that mattered right now was what was happening inside this room.

There was no outside world. Just me and Jamie.
