23| Throwing Gas On The Fire
Jamie Lovette was a lot of things.
She was a person who tended to overthink more than anyone else I knew. She was also included in the small percentage of people who liked pizza flavored chips. Most importantly, she talked a lot. Especially when she was nervous or anxious. I couldn't even count on my fingers how many times she would start rambling when she was uncomfortable back in New York.
But this...This was the first time I've ever seen her speechless. It obviously wasn't a secret that she was attracted to me and we had a connection. The amount of times we've already had sex was proof of that. But the way she was looking at me right now was different. I felt a twinge of hope that whatever this was between us was more than sex.
"You're right on time," I said suddenly, trying to break the silence. "Dinner has another fifteen minutes or so if you want to change or anything."
That seemed to snap her out of it. She took a step back and cleared her throat. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea." She continued to take backwards steps towards the staircase that led to her loft. "I'm just going to shower. Then I'll meet you down here."
"Sounds good."
After she disappeared upstairs, I went back to getting everything prepared for our romantic dinner. As if on cue, the pasta was finally done. I drained the noodles and seasoned them before pouring them in a large bowl and setting it next to the one filled with spaghetti sauce.
One of the things I learned about Jamie during our whole fake date arrangement for Harper's wedding was that she was a huge fan of Italian food. Spaghetti was one of her favorites. Ever since she got here she's been trying different kinds of French food, so I figured this would be a nice change of pace.
Once I had everything set up on the table and ready to go, I grabbed her favorite bottle of wine and two glasses, setting them next to the rose I got for her. The only thing left was the music. Luckily Jamie wasn't the only one who was a fan of vintage things, because my boss kept an old record player here in the warehouse. Jamie was so astonished the first time she saw it.
Out of the stack of records I had brought for us to choose from, I went with Frank Sinatra first. Just as "Fly Me to the Moon" started playing, Jamie came down the stairs.
Now it was my turn to be at a loss for words. Her hair was curly and loose, draped over her right shoulder. But that's not even what held me transfixed. She was wearing a dark red silk dress that hugged her body perfectly.
There was a red flush to her cheeks as she awkwardly looked down at herself. "I wasn't really expecting a night like this when I decided to come to Paris. This was the only nice dress that I had in my suitcase. To be honest, I don't even remember packing it."
"I'm glad you did," I told her honestly. "You look stunning."
The corners of her mouth lifted with an impish smile. "Thank you." Her blue eyes ran over me from head to toe. "You don't look so bad yourself."
"This old thing?" I teased. "I just had it laying around."
She chuckled at that. "Oh, I'm sure."
I reached for the rose and offered it to her. "For you, beautiful."
Taking it from me, she lifted it to her nose. "This is really sweet of you, Ollie. I mean, all of this is...Wow."
"Mission accomplished then, huh? Since 'wow' is what I was going for, I guess we can cancel dinner."
She elbowed me playfully. "You're too much."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." I stepped away from her and pulled out the chair at the head of the table. "Join me?"
"I'd love to."
She took her seat and then I took the one next to her . After I passed Jamie the garlic bread I made, I reached for the bottle of wine.
"My favorite. You shouldn't have."
After I poured her a glass I shot her a wink. "I'm pulling out all the stops for you, beautiful."
"Oh, please. I'm sure you do this for all the girls "
"Nah. Just the red-headed ones who have a love of French pastries, old music, and fine art."
She took a sip of her wine. "Well, you really narrowed it down. And speaking of old music, I see you also busted out the record player. Which I really appreciate, by the way. It sounds amazing."
"I was surprised when you said you liked record players. You don't hear that a lot these days.*
"No, you don't," she said with a smile that would make me fall to my knees if I weren't already sitting down.
Over the next hour we ate our dinner, both of us talking about our day. She asked me how much I got done of the painting. I explained that it was finished and already had an idea for what I wanted to do for the next one. Of course when she asked for details I told her she would have to wait and see for herself.
She also told me she spent her day at the park. Jamie told me about the older woman she met and how they talked for a little bit and fed the birds. There was an odd note to her tone when she told me, but I didn't press the matter. We were having such a nice night and I didn't want anything to ruin it.
"Ollie, That was delicious. I don't remember the last time I had home cooked Italian food. Thank you."
"You're welcome," I replied as I rose from my seat. Standing in front of her, I held out my hand. "Dance with me, beautiful."
She nibbled her bottom lip in a nervous and adorable way before she placed her hand in mine. "Okay. On one condition."
"And that is?"
"I pick the next song."
That was all? "Deal."
While she teasingly sauntered off to pick a record form the dozen I brought out, I downed the rest of the wine in my glass. My eyes were on her the whole time. It seemed like I could never get enough of just looking at her.
Jamie looked at about four or five different records before she glanced shyly at me over her shoulder. What the hell was she up to?
But then I knew. I felt nothing but surprise when 'Unchained Melody', by The Righteous Brothers filled the room. I never would have thought that she would have chosen that song. It was just way too romantic given our circumstances.
But once again, I wasn't going to question her. She walked back over to me, wrapping her arms around my neck as I placed mine on her waist. We started moving slowly around the dining room. The last time we danced together was at Harper's wedding—and it was not like this.
Having Jamie this close to me, not to mention dancing to this song, only threw gas on the fire of what I felt for her. The words 'I love you' got stuck in my throat and I swallowed them back down.
Needing to get my mind on something other than my feelings I said softly, "Unchained Melody, huh? Should I get out my pottery set, Lovette?"
She laughed at my reference to the movie Ghost. "You don't have a pottery set."
"Drag a penny up the wall then?"
"Nope. Just...dance with me."
"I can do that." My voice came out rougher than I intended.
This whole night—the way I dressed, the candles, and the rose—it was all meant to surprise her. Yet I was the one who was surprised. Surprised by her reaction to all this. The song choice. The fact that I didn't have to beg her to dance with me.
She pulled back a little and met my eyes. I could feel her fingers playing with the hair on the back of my neck and it sent a shiver down my spine.I was waiting for her to say something. Anything. But speaking must have been as impossible for her in that moment as it was for me.
Jamie's eyes dropped to my lips before she leaned in close. She didn't kiss me though. It was the slightest brushing of her lips against mine.
My hands tightened around her waist, pulling her closer against me before sliding my left hand up her back to bury it in her hair. I dropped my face into the hollow of her neck and just breathed her in. God, she smelled good.
"Ollie," she breathed, it was barely a whisper but I heard it.
That's when my control snapped. Each time we've had sex over the past couple days, it's always been slow. Just me savoring her body. Savoring her. But this time was different.
I suddenly had the deep need to show Jamie that she was mine. To show her that I didn't want another man kissing or making love to her. A fierce wave of possessiveness came over me and I captured her mouth in a deep kiss. It had ownership written all over it.
But she didn't seem to mind. She responded to my kiss with equal passion, moaning as my my tongue stoked hers. She also didn't seem to mind when my hand made it's way to the zipper at the back of her dress. Pulling it down felt like torture.
That was until her dress slid from her body to the floor only to reveal she wasn't wearing anything underneath.
"Christ," I hissed, taking in the sight of her.
I didn't bother with my own clothes. There was no time. I needed some part of me to be inside her. Somehow, someway. Right this fucking second.
So I reached down to grab her by the thighs and lifted her up. Her legs wound around my waist, the connection between our mouths never breaking as I carried her to the dining room table and set her on the edge.
Driven by a need for this woman that I didn't understand, I dropped to my knees and took her sex into my mouth.
The deep moan that came out of her was almost more delicious than the honey taste of her. She buried her hand in my hair as I licked and sucked at her clit, pushing her self against my mouth, begging me for more.
I was more than happy to oblige. With her legs were drapped over my shoulders, I grabbed her ass, pulling her closer so I could get more of her. Get my tongue deeper inside the sweetest part of her.
"Oh my god, Ollie." Her voice was raspy and coated with passion. "I'm going to..."
Yes, I thought to myself. Come for me, baby.
As if she understood my silent mental command, her body exploded. Her hand fisted in my hair and her legs tightened around my face. I swallowed every drop of her release as I felt her shake against me.
And I didn't stop. I continued giving her pleasure as much as taking it for myself. In that moment it felt impossible to get enough of this woman. So I brought her to another release. And another.
Only then did I finally take a breath and rise to my feet before her. Jamie was breathing hard, her eyes nearly glazed over with heat and want. For me.
When I leaned forward to kiss her again, she pressed her hand against my chest to stop me. And fuck that smile she was wearing nearly had me coming in my damn pants.
"Now it's my turn," was her husky reply.
Goddamn. This woman was going to be the death of me.

Hey everyone! Hope you're enjoying your day.
For anyone who is unfamiliar with the song Unchained Melody, it's from the movie Ghost with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. I wanted to include a link so you could hear the song but for some reason it's not letting me upload it. If you're interested in checking it out, go to YouTube and type in Unchained Melody Ghost Movie and it'll come up. I thought it was so perfect for this scene and if you haven't seen the movie I definitely recommend it! There may be more references in this story 😉
Also since I have been updating pretty regularly, I'm going to try to start doing updates Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from now on for this story. Since I am uploading this chapter today, however, the next update will be Wednesday.
I'm so sorry you have to wait an extra day, but the continuation of this chapter will be sooo worth it 🖤
