???POV

I ran through the labyrinth of halls and cells as alarms blared around me, the lights flashing, white and red. As I ran several guards tried to stop me, firing their guns, emptying every last bullet into my flesh, but every one of them fell dead as I continued my escape. I've lost the last 5 years of my life to this hellhole, and I wouldn't let anything stand in my way now.

I had made it to floor A, the level just below the surface, one more flight of stairs and I'd be home free. I down a corridor and into a small female, she was about 5 feet tall, and with petite build. She had the most beautiful blonde hair I had seen in years. Though it was dirty and pulled back so as to not inhibit running, I could tell that it would flow straight down to her feet. This wasn't a guard, was I not the only prisoner here? I heard footsteps approaching, so I grabbed the girl and covered her mouth, dragging her into a room. I held a finger over her mouth as the footsteps approached. We sat in silence hoping that they would walk past and there would be no more confrontation today. I may be immortal, but bullets still hurt.

The steps grew closer and we watched as the door opened revealing a guard walking into our hiding place, this time the girl placed her finger over my mouth and then held her head with the other hand, she looked to be in deep concentration. The guard walked toward our hiding place and was looking straight at us, so I fired a beam of death through him. He fell, his life ended in that moment.

I held out my hand to the girl, but instead of taking it, she punched me in the face, "How could you just kill him like that!"She scolded me.

I stared at her blankly, "Why wouldn't I? He would have killed you, and brought me back down there. "

She shook her head, "No he wouldn't, If you had just held still he wouldn't have even known we were there. I was projecting an illusion into his mind. Besides, no one should just kill someone if there's any other option." I looked into her eyes, remembering who I was before this happened, before they took me.

"Y-yeah,I guess you're right...It's just been so long since anyone treated me like a human. To them, all I've ever been is a weapon, and after awhile...you forget you aren't." I looked down staring at the ground. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see the girl.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have reacted quite that harshly, but from now on,no more killing! Okay?" She took my face in her hands and lifted it to look into her beautiful green eyes. I nodded. "Now, come on. We have to get out of here." She took my hand and led me into the sunlight. "By the way, what's your name?"

I thought for a moment, for so long no one had cared, to them I was the Reaper, weapon of mass destruction. "My name?" I started,tears beginning to well up in my eyes, "My name is Zeref Dragneel."

"I'm Mavis," The girl smiled. "Mavis Vermilion, so where do we go from here Zeref?"

{Two weeks later}

We crept through the city streets, quietly making our way to our destination. When we arrived, I climbed up to the second story, and crawled through the window. I closed it quietly after I was inside.This would have to be quick.

I walked over to the boy sleeping on the bed, his salmon hair peeking out from under the sheets. "Natsu, Hey come on man, wake up."I whispered, shaking my brother to wake him from his dreams.

He opened his eyes and called out, "Aaah! Who are you? Why are you in my room? Help! Dad!"

I quickly covered his mouth, "Sh! Natsu, be quiet! It's Zeref."I was to late however as a large man with red hair quickly burst into the room.

"Who are you? Why are you in my son's room?!" He asked as he raised a baseball bat over my head threateningly. I quickly raised my hands.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. Natsu's my younger brother. I'm afraid I've been gone for the last five years, and I wanted to see him again." I waited patently for the older man to decide what to do, This would be so much easier if I could just kill him. I thought, but then quickly remembered who I was. NO!You're not Reaper anymore! Stop thinking that way, he's only trying to protect Natsu. And he's doing a lot better than you ever have!

The man seemed to calm a little, "What's your name and how old are you?" He asked.

"Zeref Dragneel. I'm 19, I was 14 when I left. Natsu was 5. His birthday's June 22, when we were kids I used to tease him about his pink hair."I gave him a bit more information than he had asked for, but I thought it might help.

"Natsu,do you know him?" The man asked. Looking over to my brother. Natsu looked at me for a while before saying.

"I-I think so. He does look like Zeref, though a lot taller and stronger.And Zeref never stopped teasing me for my hair. I hated it!" He made a face, as the man lowered his weapon.

"I'm Igneel Marvell." He extended his hand, "Now do you want to tell me why you broke into my house in the middle of the night to see your brother?"

I stood, "Um, Not really. It's a bit personal." I chuckled nervously, just then a woman walked into the room.

"Igneel,If you're going to stay up and talk, why don't we go down to the kitchen and have some coffee." She walked over to me, "You look like you're starving. Come on, I'll make you some breakfast."She offered, I then realized how terrible the facility food was. I bet Mavis would like to eat too...

"Um,I know this is a lot to ask...but I have a friend outside who would probably love to come it as well. If it's okay with you of course."I ended quickly, looking down to my feet.

"Of course he can come in sweetie!" The woman smiled sweetly, "You go get him while I'm making the food."

"Um,actually it's a girl. And thank you!" I smiled as I ran back toward the window, to get Mavis.

"You got something against using the door son?" Igneel asked me.

"Um...force of habit?" I responded, he just shook his head.

I got Mavis and we both introduced ourselves properly to the Marvell's,apparently the woman's name was Grandine, and they had a 5 year old daughter named Wendy. She walked in as we were eating, and was a bit scared by me, she seemed to love Mavis though. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but it still bothered me.

We got to talking, and it became obvious that Natsu wasn't quite convinced it was really me, so I decided to take a huge risk, "Hey Natsu," He looked up at me quickly, a little nervous, "Remember that secret I told you never to tell anyone else." He nodded. I grabbed the knife on the counter top, and sliced into my arm. Showing the wound to Natsu, His new parents looked horrified, but as the cut healed within seconds Natsu looked at me again.

"Zeref,You're really back!" He jumped up and held me in his arms,crying into my shoulder.

"Yeah,Natsu, I'm back; and I'm never leaving you again." The Marvell's faces still held this look...I don't really know what it was, but I looked at them and they seemed to understand.

"Don't worry. We won't tell anyone." Igneel said, as I nodded gratefully.

"I'm sorry about your knife...I didn't really know how else to-" I started, but was quickly interrupted by Grandine.

"Don't worry about it honey. It's just a knife, honestly I was more worried about you..."

"Yeah,I guess I looked kinda crazy huh." I said dryly. They nodded. Wendy, who had been hiding behind Mavis now walked up.

"Y-you're Natsu's brother?" She asked. I nodded. "Does that mean you're my brother too now?" I looked over to her parents, they looked at each other then nodded at me.

"I guess so." I said looking at the bluenette. She suddenly smiled at me and joined the hug.

"Group hug!" Mavis called out also tackling me, Igneel and Grandine shrugged and joined in also. By the time everyone returned to their original positions, I had started crying, looking down at the ground.

Grandine looked at me and lifted my head so she could look me in the eyes"Are you okay sweetie?" She asked wiping the tears from my face.

I shook my head, "Y-yeah, I'm fine, It's just been so long since..." I stopped mid-sentence, maybe the adults could know,but there was no way I could say anything in front of the kids.

Mavis saved me, "Zeref and I have been on our own for a while. It's been a long time since so many people cared..." I could see she was feeling left out, after we had escaped I had thought we should track down what was left of our families, but she didn't have anyone left. No brothers, no sisters, no one. Grandine also saw this, and pulled us both into a hug, "Sweetie, you both have a family here now.Okay?" She said holding Mavis and I close to her chest. "Now,Zeref, go wash up. Your arm's covered in blood." She smiled at me gesturing toward the bathroom, I nodded and walked in that direction.

"Actually,just take a shower. You stink." Called Natsu tossing me a towel,"Your girlfriend can have one after you." I felt the heat rising in my cheeks G-girl-girlfriend...I hadn't ever thought of her that way before. But why? Why does it seem so...almost...right...maybe we could be, someday... I thought as I went to take my shower.

Grandine: Yeah, I mean, that boy just seemed so sweet! and he has the cutest girlfriend. *fangirling*

Zeref: O///O S-She's not my girlfriend...at least not yet anyway...

Ruby:BUT SHE WILL BE!! ZERVIS FOR LIFE!!

Mavis:Z-zervis? What's that? *looks concerned*

Edda:Ruby really, really ships you two...like to the point it's a little scary *drags Ruby away from the outro*

Mavis:O///O She's weird.
