Chapter 8
The red gargoyle groggily opened his eyes the next day after having cried himself to sleep. He rubbed his shoulder and suddenly flinched from touching his brand mark. It still stung and could get infected since Shadow Man didn't do the humane way of branding him.
Brooklyn then rubbed the sleep out of his eyes weakly, forehead feverish after his overstress, still feeling the cuff around his neck. He couldn't figure how long they kept him for. It felt like a whole week so far. He really had tried to keep being a strong-willed gargoyle, but this human had constantly pushed him to his limits.
He shivered and curled up more, still seeing that hot sun, missing his stone sleep even further. The muzzle made Brook's jaws so stiff from their unuse, wanting this demonic thing to be gone.
Brook felt a leftover tear come but most of his crying had been spent last night, feeling numb of emotion now, hard to face the reality of being owned by a disgusting man such as Shadow Man.
They deserved to hurt me... but I'd wish they would stop now. I had enough... Brook thought sadly, hair slipping down his face in sorrow. He wondered how else this crazy human would enlist further harm and nightmares into his life now that he was branded.
With his eyes closed Brook suddenly saw Goliath's face flash in the darkness and opened his eyes again, breathing raspily, eyes rounded. The young male still now had doubts of his escape. And even if he did, it was still so far away for someone like Brooklyn to glide to. The hot wind blew roughly against his skin.
My family is so darned far away while I'm here, dunno if I can still make it... the world feels so big without my family by my side! He thought erratically, gazing everywhere at the big empty space beyond Shadow Man's property, wondering if there were even any other houses in the area he could get food from.
Another sudden reminder about his stolen loincloth struck Brooklyn like icy water, making him look down at his naked waist area. He recalled the jeering faces of those goons at his humiliation, feeling his face burn in anger, making an attempt to hide his private section too.
But then Shadow Man came to visit, twirling his knife, a twisted smile on his face under the hood when looking at his prize. It was such a treat for him to see a gargoyle without his loincloth at his mercy. He looked quite ashamed of himself and face emotionless, too, ears having fallen. He gave a little snicker, nudging Diablo with his boot.
Brook jumped a little, eyes and face still pale and fear still present; his Master towering above him. Shadow Man pulled his trusty spear out too, poking the belly and making the muzzled beast wince, closing his eyes tightly shut. He hoped his Master plan to use anything else horrific on his body now that he didn't have his coverage.
"So sad, my poor pet must be cold and violated without his loincloth, hm?" He crooned sadistically. Brooklyn gave a sad glare, still unable to say anything. Shadow Man knelt, eyeing his mark with satisfaction. It sent him pleasure to see it on his gargoyle slave. He reached with a hand, rubbing his thumb across the burn, causing Brooklyn to cringe further, baring his teeth, wanting this spawn of Satan to stop treating him in an abusive attitude.
Shadow Man took in his Diablo's wince of pain. "Aw, is my pet still in pain from his branding?"
Brooklyn glared at the evil man. He hated to be mocked in his worst moment of pain.
"Aw, are you hungry yet, my pet?" He mocked him.
Brooklyn was still not the least bit hungry after he had been forced to eat badly poisoned or rotten food. He shook his head.
Then one of the men came forward with a bottle. "Here, Boss."
"Of course. How about some water?"
Brooklyn's expression softened just enough. He nodded.
"Go and take his muzzle off."
A man came forward and there was a knife held in front of him. "You dare attack me and I won't take the muzzle off. Is that clear?"
Brook nodded in reply. He just wanted that hated muzzle off his mouth.
The man unlocked the muzzle and took it off. Brooklyn instantly flexed and licked his lips. He was so thirsty and his mouth was cramped from being in that horrid thing for so long.
The man was then given the bottle and Brooklyn tried to take the bottle with his cuffed hands, but it was jerked away. "Nope. A pet can't drink out of a bottle by themselves."
"I'm not an animal. I know how to give myself a drink of water from a bottle." Brook stated.
That was when the spear jabbed his brand. "AH!" Brook cried out, holding his arm.
"You will let him give it to you, or you don't get any water, Diablo." Shadow Man warned him.
Brooklyn had to reluctantly let the man put the bottle to his lips, puckering so he could drink it. He drank it greedily as he could to get as much down his parched throat. It was pulled away too soon. He was grateful for any water at all.
"Don't think you are getting away anytime soon, Monster. You are my prize." Shadow Man declared.
"What do you want with me?" Brooklyn demanded.
"I want to know more about why gargoyles are such monsters that they are."
"We are not monsters!" Brooklyn growled.
"Oh, but you are, Diablo."
"I hate that name! That's not my name!"
"It's your name because I chose it for you, Devil!" The boss snarled at him, then jabbed his spear into Brooklyn's ribs. Brook held his ribs.
"I will never do your bidding or call you Master!" Brooklyn snarled back.
"Oh, but you will, or I can see to it that you are tortured some more and eventually, you will die here. Your body will just be turned over to science." Shadow Man warned him.
Brooklyn had to get out of this evil place. "The only monsters I see here are you and your henchmen!" He growled at the humans.
Shadow Man then came up with his spear out in front of him and it made Brooklyn back up. The man jabbed his spear into his brand. It made Brook cry out in pain.
"You will speak to me and my men with respect like you did yesterday, Devil! I can make things a lot worse for you if you do not continue to give me the respect I deserve!" Shadow Man exclaimed.
"You don't deserve respect. You deserve to be in jail." Brooklyn glared and retorted angrily, hating himself earlier for responding pathetically to his answers after the branding.
That was when he got a slap across the face. Brook held his face. Then he got a good jab in the stomach too from the spear. He held his belly too. He winced. He had a thought of remembering his argument with Goliath. He didn't want to die here alone away from his clan. He had to get away from here before something worse happened.
"Watch that filthy mouth of yours, Diablo. You will keep doing my bidding and answer my questions. Got it?!"
"Screw you!" Brooklyn growled.
"That does it!"
Brook's eyes lit up as the boss man came forward and he punched Brooklyn so hard in the face that he was sent backwards into the tree trunk and he hit the back of his head. It sent him into unconsciousness.
"Put his muzzle back on him. I don't want to hear anymore backtalk from him today, and no more water for him today." Shadow Man ordered.
Two men did the honors. One held Brook up while the other put the muzzle back on his face and locked in place.
"Unpleasant dreams, Monster!" Shadow Man exclaimed as he and his men went inside.
...
Many hours later, the red gargoyle woke up. He had one massive headache. He moaned even from having the muzzle on his face. He managed to reach back and rub his head. When he tried to touch the muzzle on his face, he got zapped. It stung his face.
Brooklyn winced. He looked around and saw he was cuffed and didn't know a thing. Who was he? Why was he here? Why was he in cuffs? Had he done something bad? He had no idea who he was or where he was.
He tried remembering, making his head hurt more. Brook hoped he hadn't been a bad person to get chained. Heck, he couldn't even recall what he was either, which scared him greatly, hoping soon someone would help him, feeling afraid of this big empty space of field around him, and that big house nearby, also wondering why he didn't wear any coverage.
Whoever lived there, Brooklyn prayed they were friends for him, hugging himself the best he could with his chained wrists.
....
Will Brooklyn get his memories back? Keep reading to find out!
Plus it is my birthday tomorrow! May end up having another chapter come along then to celebrate. Already have it pre written.
