Chapter 5
Shadow Man went out to see his precious toy the next day, who was still tied up at the tree, asleep. He had been unable to maintain his healthy sleeping pattern from before being sold away, head fallen over.
He grinned sadistically, holding a spear with a dull blade, watching Diablo snooze for a while, unable to get over how handsome the devil looked, still anxious to make him into a helpless pet no matter how long that took. Using the spear he now decided to wake his toy up, poking Brooklyn roughly in the arm.
Brook jumped awake, wincing from the sunlight hitting his eyes badly, but then saw his buyer before him, groaning in sadness. Shadow Man snickered heartlessly at him.
"Well good morning, Sleeping Beauty or should I say Devil? I trust you slept well?" he mocked. Brook looked away, not wanting to see Shadow Man and to go home. Shadow Man narrowed his eyes, poking the spear near Diablo's stomach. Diablo winced in fear, not wanting to be cut up, shaking.
"Bet you feelin' hungry now, hm? Well, too bad freak. Ya still not getting food from me!" taunted Shadow Man relentlessly. Brooklyn glared at his captor, using his leg to push the spear away. His tail was still wrapped around his leg so Brooklyn couldn't fight back very well. This just made Shadow Man laugh even harder.
"Ha ha! The poor lonely freak, no longer with his family, deprived of food and drink. So pathetic!" mocked Shadow Man. Brooklyn kept wiggling again, whimpering in pain and anger, wanting this man to leave him alone. He and the rest of his kind didn't deserve to be treated as exotic pets to be abused!
Shadow Man kept laughing, smirking at Brooklyn's muzzle. "No remarks about this being wrong, and I'm evil? Well, no chance for you to say them, thanks to that handy little muzzle, for you'll keep it until manner lessons are over..."
Brook's eyes glowed, kicking out at Shadow Man in fury, wanting this guy to shut up and set him free!
This time Brooklyn kicked him in the shin of his right leg. That ticked the man off. "Oh, you'll pay for that, Monster!"
The red gargoyle just gave a hard glare at the evil human. But that was where the poking began to get rougher.
Shadow Man began poking him even harder in the stomach. "You like that, huh?! You do stuff to me; you'll get harder consequences in return!" he said sinisterly.
Brooklyn began to squirm and grunt trying to just get free from these hated shackles on his arms behind him. He could feel the pains from the spear poking him. Then, it was jabbed into his gut so hard that he let out a grunt of pain even with the muzzle on. It got him to stop moving as he tried to breathe.
Brook brought his legs up to try to relieve some of the nausea and protect his belly from the spear, but that didn't stop the man from trying some more.
Shadow Man began poking his ribs, arms, legs, and wings too. Brooklyn growled in response. Then he tried to get up. That then earned him a hard whack to his chest in the ribs.
Brooklyn yelped in response. He fell to the ground. That would no doubt leave a big bruise in his skin. It also knocked more wind out of him. Then he eyed the man, breathing hard. He had a little more fear in his eyes after that.
Shadow Man then came up and put the spear to his belly, making Brooklyn cringe. The man pushed the spear into his belly.
"You are mine now and you'll do what I want you to. Got it, Diablo?!"
Brooklyn hated his new name. He would never think of himself as that name. He winced as he felt the pressure put into him more. He nodded in return.
"Good, Monster. You're learning. And there will be plenty more lessons where this came from." The man mocked him. "Because if you don't learn your lessons, something more like this will happen." He exclaimed as he also pulled out a knife he had on his belt and he put it to the downed gargoyle's face, making Brooklyn flatten his ears and his eyes widen in fear.
"Or shall I do it here?" The man asked sarcastically as he put the knife down to Brooklyn's belly. He looked back up at this prey and there was a shake of the gargoyle's head in desperation.
Brooklyn knew he didn't need any serious injuries if he stood any chance at all of being able to escape. And without his stone sleep, a deep wound would hold him back. Least of all a deep wound in his belly.
'Oh, please don't do this!" Brooklyn's mind screamed.
"I wonder what color your blood is?" Shadow Man said. "I wonder if I could tell your blood from the color of your skin since you're red."
Brook squirmed desperately to free his arms. He didn't want to get cut.
"Trying to get loose, are we? You won't get loose from those shackles unless we release you." The man declared.
Then the evil man came forward with the knife again and he grabbed Brook's left arm, making him gasp from under the muzzle. He shut his eyes for a moment, then opened them to see what the man was going to do.
Shadow Man brought the knife down to Brooklyn's bicep on his arm. He drew the knife across the skin in a quick flash. It made Brooklyn wince in pain. His blood was drawn.
The humans saw that the gargoyle's blood was a tad darker than his skin.
"His blood is red like ours, Boss." One of the other men stated.
"And here we thought gargoyles would have different colored blood." Another mocked.
Brooklyn gave him a glare. Then the boss man knocked his fist into his belly, making him cringe.
"You'll also be punished if you give dirty glares." Shadow reprimanded. Brooklyn just looked away, chest heaving. He was glad now his clan couldn't see him being mistreated this way. One of the men laughed. "We will soon make ya weep, Diablo, we promise that! You will cry in front of your Master!" He taunted.
The young Second did his best not to let himself cry. Shadow Man again displayed the knife again. "I have a feeling we will have such fun with you, my little Diablo. It will be an experiment to see how tough your kind is, shouldn't it?" He sneered, tracing the non sharp part of the knife across Brooklyn's cheek. Brooklyn cringed again, ears flattened still, trying to get away, the cuff around his neck rubbing against him painfully.
Shadow Man grabbed his hurt arm, making him stop. "Quit the struggling, Pet! You will learn to be happy with me, and like your name!" He growled, lifting Brooklyn's chin up with the pointed end of the knife before letting it fall. Brooklyn's insides churned. No way would I like my name, you sick pervert! He hissed silently back but didn't glare at him this time.
After that the men eventually left for dinner around 5:00, though not giving Brooklyn any when usual. Shadow Man had poked him when leaving. "Have fun starving, Diablo!" He taunted, cackling. Brook let out a sigh as much as he could with his muzzle in relief that those horrible men were done abusing him for the day, dreading more to come later, the cuffs pinching his wrists and still unable to breathe properly from his terrible neck cuff and muzzle.
What wouldn't I give for a nice drink of fresh water... he thought, head lowered, imagining those men eating their dinner, but won't even offer him a morsel, coughing from his dry throat. But Brooklyn kept up the thought that he could survive, he must if he were to escape this, feeling very homesick.
