(For reference here's the order that everyone is positioned in the car.

Front: Gert and chase.

Middle: Molly

Back: Nico, Karolina, and (y/n)

Trunk: old lace)

The time had come. (Y/n) sighed as he stared out the side window of the vehicle at his home town as the distance made it seem smaller than it was. "You alright (y/n)?" The boy quickly turned to see Karolina sitting between him and Nico with a concerned look.

"Yeah. I'm fine" (y/n) lied as he nodded before turning back to the window. It was a weird feeling, he hated his mother and the abuse but he also hated change.

"Hey" the boy felt a hand on his shoulder. He tended before looking over to see it was just Nico, causing him to relax. Nico had her arm pretty much in Karolina's face, not that she seemed to mind much, as she smiled at him and held his shoulder. "It'll be fine. I promise"

(Y/n) let out a shaky breath and nodded. "If nothing else I now have X-ray glasses. Those should keep me entertained for a while" Nico let go of his shoulder.

"You gave him the X-ray glasses? Chase asked from the front.

"More like he tried them on and decided to keep them" Karolina replied as (y/n) just shrugged. "After pulling a Gert"

"A what?" Gert asked as she turned to look back but just as quickly turned back to look at the road.

"Remember when you found those glasses?" Chase replied. Gert just nodded. "Remember the first thing you did?"

"Accidentally looked at- oh!" Gert gave (y/n) a look.

"Oh so that's why he wants to keep them" Molly laughed as she turned to look back behind her. "Was it really by accident?"

"Yes. Yes it was" (y/n) replied as he nodded his head. Everyone was silent for a moment. "What? It was... well with seeing Nico at least. She showed up after I had already put them on"

"I knew you did that on purpose!" Karolina hit the boy on the shoulder playfully. He very noticeably flinched at the small gesture and Karolina instantly felt horrible. "Sorry" she gave the boy a small smile before glancing at Nico as if to say sorry to her as well.

"It's fine" (y/n)s words came out as little more than a whisper. "Just not used to being touched unless I'm about to end up hurt" he wrapped his arms around himself.

"Nobody here will hurt you (y/n)" Nico replied as she reached over and pat his thigh lightly.

"I know" (y/n) nodded, he hated that even when Nico did something supposed to be comforting like she was now, that he still had to suppress the urge to shrink away.

Nico must have picked up on the boys feeling because the second he accidentally let himself tense up she pulled her hand away.

The moments after that were followed by an awkward silence.

Finally a few minutes later Molly spoke. "So we just gonna sit in silence?"

"I'd hope not" Karolina replied. She turned to (y/n) before speaking again. "Tell us about you"

"There's not much to say" (y/n) replied as he unwrapped his arms from around himself. "I'm a guy, that's about it" he shrugged as he looked out the window and was no longer able to see the town that used to be his home.

"What're your hobbies?" Chase asked.

(Y/n) was silent for a moment as he considered the question. "I don't know..." he shrugged as he watched a nice car zoom by out the window. "I don't think I have any"

"None?" Molly asked curiously as she watched him.

"I've never really done anything other than what I need to" (y/n) shrugged and kept watching the other cars. "Sorry to disappoint"

"We'll find you a hobby" Nico spoke causing (y/n) to turn and look at her. "What do you like?"

(Y/n) shrugged. "The color purple?"

Nico glanced down at the purple T-shirt she was wearing. "What else? Purple can't really be a hobby"

"Well using these is fun" (y/n) pulled the x-ray glasses from his shirt pocket before putting them back in.

"I'm sure it is" Nico rolled her eyes. "What else?"

"I don't know" (Y/n) sighed. "Like I said, I've never really done much for fun before. Never had the time or recourses. I'm sorry"

Nico and Karolina frowned at that. "Don't apologize" Nico nodded. "We'll find you something" she repeated herself before glancing out her window.

It was silent again for a while. Molly was using an iPad while Karolina shifted a bit closer to Nico, Chase and Gert just enjoyed the calmness. The back was still a bit awkward.

"How long are we gonna stay on the road before we stop for the night?" Karolina asked after a half an hour had passed.

"We'll stop at a motel for the night once it gets dark" Nico replied as she glanced out the window and up to see the suns position in the sky.
