Sylvan's Log

Hi again, My turn. Max stopped when Colyn started cutting bread huh? Interesting place to stop.

"Careful," Colyn said. "My hot is not the same as your hot."

"He's got a higher heat tolerance," Emma said, nudging him and taking a piece of the fruit bread. "Oh, yeah, you guys are gonna have to blow on this for a bit. Or just let it cool. That works too." She popped a piece of the bread in her mouth, grabbing a cranberry piece and teleporting away.

Exxa gently poked one of the slices, pulling her hand back when it burned her. "Ouch! Hot!"

"I warned you," Colyn said, swallowing a bite.

"And it doesn't seem to bother you one bit," I noted.

"I'm the only one allowed to surprise hug Emma, you know why that is?"

I shrugged. "Dunno, why?"

"Cause Emma's normal skin temperature is around 120 degrees Fahrenheit. That's pretty hot. When touching anyone else, she cools herself down to a less scalding temperature."

I blinked. "Is that why any room with her in it begins to heat up as it does with the Firbreathers?"

Colyn nodded. "Yep, that's it."

Obsidia grabbed a paper towel, picking up a piece with that, and blowing on it. "We need to head out in a little while though, as soon as Mirale and Secilia finish with the weapons and engine update."

"We're almost done with the engine update, weapons will be done in another 3-4 hours. We have time," Mirale replied.

"You didn't have weapons before?" Max wondered.

Obsidia shook her head. "Nope, our ship didn't come equipped with them. It took Secilia a little while to get all the equipment for upgrading our ship like that."

"And you help with missions like the Fantasyverse team does?" I asked.

"Somewhat, we're mostly used for reconnaissance, with the unique abilities of our team. Also, they tend to let us train newbies. Some, like Mirale choose to stay and help, others leave and join other teams."

"Makes sense," I decided, picking up a now cooled off piece of fruit bread. "Are you also here to pick up supplies?"

"Nah, we got replicators for that," Mirale replied.

"Don't you have work to do?" Obsidia asked, looking at her pointedly.

Mirale snorted, leaving the kitchen at the same time Emma appeared in it.

"We never turn down Onyx's food though," Enigma offered, a drop of blood falling from the piece of meat on her fork.

"I'm not sure that's counted as cooking," Max said, looking a little queasy.

"Sure it is, just as much as our salads." Exxa said. "You aren't like, afraid of blood or something, right?"

"Yeah, do we need to schedule your shifts around Enigma's usual eating times?" Obsidia added.

"I should be fine," Max said. I glanced at him, raising an eyebrow.

"Y'know Max, if you don't really want to be around when Enigma's eating, you can just say so," Emma singsonged. "They shouldn't have to use me."

"It isn't a hassle, we've had several kids through our team that needed to have shifts like that," Obsidia said.

"He's squeamish about blood, I'm not," I added helpfully. The brother in question shot me a murderous glare. I smirked at him, turning my hair a bright red. He glared at me, his skin shifting to a dark brown in contrast to my pale, almost white complexion.

"What did you just do?" Obsidia blurted out.

"Oh, right, they can shift their um, colors. They can change the color of their hair, eyes, and skin, as long as it's within normal human parameters," Emma explained. "That's how Secilia explains it."

"Makes sense I suppose, probably good I'm color blind then," Obsidia quipped.

"You're color blind?" Onyx asked, turning around.

Obsidia rubbed the top of one of her wings. "Yeah, Fleetwing color blind anyway."

"And how is that different than human color blind?" I asked.

"Fleetwings see a star-ton more colors than most species do, and so a color blind Fleetwing pretty much has average human color vision." Emma offered. "So, she isn't likely to freak out cause your skin and hair tones don't match that day."

"Your current picks are actually pretty good, but I'm rather immune to the slight color differences you crazy humans dress in. I've seen much worse out in public," Onyx said, sticking a pan in the oven. "Okay, since I have time, any specific dishes you want to take into space for later?"

"Yeah!" Obsidia said immediately. "Your nightberry and sunberry soup. It's my favorite!"

"Yours, not ours," Exxon muttered.

"What Exxon means to say," Exxa began, "is that we would appreciate it if you could make ramen. The vegetarian stuff you made last time we were here."

"With Mara?"

"Yeah, when we were here with Mara," Exxa agreed.

"If you have some more salmon, the replicator can't get it right. Nothing quite beats fresh Earth salmon," Enigma said, grinning.

"If you say so," Exxa mutters.

"Hey, just because you're a herbivore, and she's a carnivore, doesn't let you criticize her eating choices," Obsidia scolded immediately.

"Sorry," Exxa said quickly under Obsidia's glare.

"Thank you. Lance, did you want something?"

Elance shrugged. "Doesn't matter to me. I don't have taste buds."

"Neither does Mirale," Obsidia said thoughtfully.

"How do you normally eat?" Max asked, confused. I was confused as well, but attempted not to show it. I'm pretty sure I failed.

"Normally, I envelop it. I digest it afterwards. Mirale eats stuff like you do, but eats a mineral from her homeworld. I don't have taste buds cause I normally don't have a proper mouth, and Mirale's species never bothered developing taste buds that could taste stuff like you guys can." Elance replied, poking at her food again.
