Who Are You?
Another day another chapter. This is where it starts getting a bit interesting.
"Anything in italics and speech marks is dragonese"
The dragons had done it. They had finally reached the home the the great Bewilderbeast.
It was a long journey with very few stops. They were desperate to get to their present king and receive help for their human and dark-scaled friends.
The night fury-as vikings had named it, had woken up during one of their stops and dragged himself towards the humans. The dragon then proceeded to coat the boy's leg and the girl's arm in his saliva and then placed his head between them, crooning sadly before becoming unconscious once again.
Stormfly guessed that the dragon could already tell what was happening and used the last of his strength to at least ease the pain the two humans were feeling. (You know. Because night fury saliva has healing properties but since this is a curse he can only heal the physical pain that the curse is creating.)
The night fury hadn't woken up since.
Now they were circling around the ice haven and looking for a way to get in.
Once she spotted an entrance in the mountain, Stormfly squawked at the other dragon to follow her. Luckily, he was able to fit through the opening. However, before they could go any further, they were met with a 4-winged dragon carrying some sort of creature on his back.
The creature looked at the bodies that were being carried and gasped, seeming to recognise the curse that had infested them. It then raised its stick and tapped it lightly on the ground before raising it again and motioning to follow. The nightmare looked at Stormfly, who gently clutched the two humans in her claws again, and began to follow the large dragon.
A few hours later. Yes I know. Another time skip. What? I like messing with time.
Astrid screamed and gasped for air as her eyes opened. Everything was blurry and her arm was on fire but as her vision steadied, she was surrounded by ice? A scream snapped her out of her confusion and she quickly looked for the source.
"When can we eat mum?"
"Once the king has finished the healing process."
"Are they the human bridges?"
"It seems so."
"Hiccup. What's happening?" She gasped as she tried to reach towards him.
"Look. They've woken up."
"Why do humans scream like that?"
He tried to open his eyes but another surge of pain stopped them both.
"Astrid." He reached out for her hand and grasped it.
"Awww. They're holding hands. That's cute."
"You can smell that they're mates from a mile away."
Both of them held onto each other through the bursts of pain hitting them until, finally, the pain seemed to stop.
"Hey. Don't you think the male looks a bit like the guardian?"
"Oh my Alpha you're right."
"It is done." A figure came out of the shadows to greet the two who were sitting up and gasping for air.
"Who- who are you?"
"I want to eat."
"In a bit hatchling."
"Im not a hatchling anymore mum. I'm a big dragon."
"Would you like to take a guess Hiccup?" She said as she stroked a terrible terror which had perched onto her shoulder.
"Of course you are son."
"Hey hey. You want to race?"
"First of all how'd you know my name? Secondly, You aren't going to kill us are you?" The lady laughed.
"You bet I do. See you at the finish line"
"Hey that's cheating!"
"No. Of course not."
"Oh fish. How I want to eat you so."
"Big dragons don't moan about being hungry son."
Astrid squeezed his hand tightly as if to question why he would ask such a thing. The lady came towards them both and placed her hand onto Hiccup's cheek. Hiccup's eyes widened.
"Then I don't want to be a big dragon anymore."
"Hah! I win."
"D-do I know you?"
"Does he know the guardian?"
"No fair. You got a head start."
"No," She paused, "But a mother never forgets."
"No wonder they look like each other."
"Mother?" She took her mask off to reveal a foreign yet familiar face and smiled.
"Hi, Hiccup."
"Again. This time on three."
"Fine but you're just wasting your time."
Hiccup's breath quickened but he felt astrid squeeze his hand and looked at her.
'It's okay Hiccup.' She mouthed so he looked at the woman again. He nodded a d took another deep breath.
"Hey look they're racing again."
"Oohh. This is dramatic. Why do humans have such dramatic lives?"
"Fishy fish. You are my love. Fish fishity fish."
"You're my mother? Do you grasp how insane that sounds? Everyone said you were taken by dragons. Everyone told me you were dead," He looked around and finally realised the nest of dragons surrounding him, "Wow. You've been here all that time? But how?"
"Son stop jumping. That's not going to cure your hunger."
"Don't you have a dramatic life? I mean Drago took your mum."
"Fiiiiiisshhhhhh."
"And your dad. You barely escaped. And you almost lost your wing. If it wasn't for the guardian you wouldn't be able to fly. You'd be as good as dead.
"Oh Cloudjumper never meant to hurt me. He must of thought I belonged here. In the home of the Bewilderbeast. The alpha dragon." She gestured behind the two and they gasped as they saw a dragon larger than even the red death.
"I guess my life is dramatic. But still. These humans always make a production out of everything."
"Stop whining. You'll get your fish. Go play with your friends."
"But muuuummm. Fiisssh."
Another time skip just about an hour later. Valka explained the story of how she left and Hiccup and Astrid explained why they left Berk as well. I won't bore you with details you already know.
"I'm bored. Can we have fish now?"
They had remained sitting down because Hiccup finally seemed to realise that half of his leg was gone.
"Isn't it so sad and romantic that they both share the curse?"
"So can you explain why I don't have half of my leg?"
"Are you even a dragon? And besides. They're not cursed anymore."
"From what you told me, I assume that the fire had damaged your leg too much. When you got here I had to immediately amputate it. If it wasn't for the curse, you would have died in a day."
"Don't question my dragoninity. Do I look like a viking to you?"
"Curse? What curse?" Astrid asked.
"You look insane."
"I am insane. And i'm not the only one. Have you seen that hatchling over there. He's become food crazed."
"Your arm dear. And your leg. Before you killed the red death it placed a curse on you son. And when Astrid touched you half of the curse latched onto her. Everlasting pain and misery. A long and painful death for the both of you."
"I don't blame him. I love fish."
"Are you saying that the curse saved me from death just so I could be killed slowly?"
"That is some really messed up crap. I'm so glad we escaped that place and found this one."
"Aye son. But you don't have to worry about that anymore."
"Fish. Fish. Fish. Everybody say it with me. Fish. Fish. Fish."
"You and me both friend."
"We don't? What does that even mean?" His hands waved in a hiccupy way and Astrid had to stop herself from smiling at his habits.
"Is no one going to say it with me?"
"Hah! I won this time."
"Have either of you felt anymore pain in the last hour?" They both shook their heads, "Your dragons are quite smart. As soon as you showed signs of the curse, they realised what it was and knew exactly where to take you."
"Are you happy now? Now can we stop racing."
"You're just sour because you lost."
"But why. Why did they bring us here?" Astrid asked.
"No. Its because I don't want you in my presence anymore."
"To counteract the curse. By taking you to the only dragon who can do so."
"What was that?"
"Nothing. I'm hungry. When are we going to get fish?"
"Did someone say fish?"
"So the Bewilderbeast saved us? That's That's-"
"Insane? Crazy? Terribly awesome?"
"No. No one said anything. You're just hearing things. Hey do you want to race. He doesn't want to anymore."
"Amazing." Astrid finished.
"Wow. Humans have such great choice of words."
"Will I get fish after we race?""
"What's more amazing is that you can understand dragons."
"We can?"
"They can?"
"Sure. Anything you like."
"So that's what I've been hearing all this time. Have you been hearing this too?" Hiccup nodded, his eyes widening in realization.
"Ok. So I want a cod and some salmon. Ooh and some tuna as well. And those little ones. What are they called?"
"How do you know that we have these abilities?"
"Anchories? No."
"Because I went through something similar to you."
"Avonchies?"
"No. But you're getting close."
"Were you cursed by the red death too?"
"Ooh. I know."
"Do you actually?"
"Not as bad as you. I was bitten by it," she removed a piece of her shoulder armour to reveal a huge scar, "But there is something else you need to know."
"Yes. I do."
"Something else?"
"Ooh. I wonder what it is."
"You already know what it is idiot."
"Come," and she turned quickly beckoning the two to follow her.
"Anchovies."
"Well done. Now let's race."
Wow. That was fun to write. Especially the dragonese. I had so much fun writing multiple conversations at once and I'll definitely continue to do it. Now. I wonder what Valka needs to tell them. Is she a half dragon? Does she have another lover? Who knows?
Well. I do. But you won't know until the next chapter.
Bug out sky riders.
