Runaways Again

Welcome back. Just so you guys know, we've just completed one third of the story. Btw, I am obsessed with this song.

Hiccup reached inside the bag around Toothless and took the spair tail out. Quickly, as if it was of second nature to him, he placed the mechanism around the real tail and mounted Toothless. Astrid followed.

"HICCUP. COME BACK HERE!" He shouted out. But his son wasn't listening. And neither was Astrid.

"Stoick. Ihs too late," Gobber placed a hand on his shoulder and Stoick could do nothing but sigh.

"What am I going to do with him Gobber?"

"Maybe yer need teh juhs think abou' everything thahs 'appened and then you can decide." Stoick's face grew uncertain but he knew it may be his only chance.

"Maybe."

"If I may intercept," Stoick looked towards the girl who had joined them, "I may be able to find them if they're still on Berk. I mean, it's worth a try is it not?"

"The lass may be onta somethin Stoick," Spitelout interrupted, "She migh' be able ter find out whatever they're planning."

Stoick frowned, his eyebrows demonstrating his deep thought. They were right. He needed to know exactly what was going on through their minds.

"Find them and see what they're up to." She nodded and began to run in the general direction of the dragons.

With Hiccup and Astrid

They flew to the cove and Hiccup jumped off and screamed. He kneeled down next to the lake and splashed water on his face violently.  Astrid ran to his side.

"Hiccup. You need to calm down."

"How? How can I Astrid? When he made it clear that he doesn't care about me." Astrid could hear him choking on his words so she sat next to him, gripping his arm.

"I know."

"I mean. He didn't even say anything about this," he said, pointing to his metal leg, "That could of been the first thing he asked about when he found out who I was but no. All he cares about is his pride."

"You know what I think? I think the both of you need a little bit more time away from each other. Today proved that. I know that deep inside, you wanted to see him. He's your father, you can't help it. But I think we both know that everything that happened to day just shows that he can't accept us or the dragons. Now maybe by him knowing a little more will help him but let him make that choice. And when he's ready, he'll have to find us himself." By the end of her talk, Hiccup had calmed down. Though, water was still dripping down from his hair and face.

"And what if I'm not ready?" He whispered, a tear slipping down his cheek and clinging on to his jaw. Astrid reached out and wiped it before cupping his face into her hands.

"Then make it known babe. Because you have that choice too," she pecked him on the lips and then hugged him, making him lose his balance. Both of them toppled onto the ground. Astrid sat up and pulled him towards her before dusting his back from any dirt.

"What did I do to deserve you? Sometimes I think you're an angel. And I'm just a measly human."

"Me? An angel? Well I'm a very uncontrollable one then. I bet the Gods have never seen an angel wield an axe before." Hiccup smiled.

"You're right. Not an angel. A valkarye."

"A valkarye who would do anything to protect you."

Hiccup placed his head on her shoulder and smiled at the light of the sun. He let himself go as tears began to fall rapidly. He buried his face into her shoulder and felt her hand caress his hair gently. They stayed like that for half an hour, Hiccup crying, Astrid shedding a few tears herself. Toothless and Stormfly curled up against them as a means of comfort and Toothless settled his head on his best friend's lap.

I honestly could not resist putting Hiccstrid in this chapter. I wasn't going to but I needed to. Ignore me.

The girl that had been sent by the chief had caught up with the four visitors. She couldn't hear what they were saying but she could tell they were having a moment.

She smirked.

It seemed that these two had fallen in love.

And that would be their downfall.

She watched as the son began to cry and grimaced. Some people were so pathetic. She hated pathetic people.

He stood up and grabbed the girl's hand, bringing her up too. He said something to her. The most she could make out was the word leave- leaving. They were leaving.

She wanted to laugh.

They were becoming runaways again.

........

"I guess it's safe to say that there's nothing we can do here," Astrid remarked.

"It's about time we were leaving. We've stayed here too long. Come on Astrid," He secured himself onto the saddle and took another deep breath before flicking his helmet on.

Toothless beat his wings and began to lift off and Astrid watched the two with sympathy. All those years Hiccup had kept his feelings in from everyone but her, and it was heartbreaking to see him break down like that. But she was also happy that he was able to let it out. It meant he would be easier on himself in the future. She knew how hard it was for him in the first 15 years of his life, and how much pent up anger and resentment had built inside of him. And it hurt her. But she knew that soon, it would stop. Because he would make the right decision for himself. And when he did, he would break free from the shackles that restrained him for so long.

She climbed Stormfly's back and followed her fiance to Dragon Island.

2 hours later

They had reached Dragon Island in silence as both Hiccup and Astrid had a lot to think about on their journey. Though they wanted to talk to each other, they knew that it would be better if they had the flight to break free from all of their overwhelming thoughts.

Once they landed Hiccup walked towards Astrid. She lifted her helmet and looked at him. He lifted his as well. One second he was walking towards her, the next, his lips were on hers and they were moving together quickly. Desperately. Astrid grabbed his collar and Hiccup pulled her waist closer. They broke apart and placed their foreheads together. For a moment they just stood there, gazing into each other's eyes.

"Thank you. Astrid."

"What for?" She replied.

"For just being here with me even though you had the choice not to."

"You can't get rid of me that easily. And if you had made the wrong choice, I would have told you already."

"I really don't know what I would do without you."

"You'd probably be a mess," she laughed.

"I'm a mess right now,"

"And so am I. At least we can be a mess together,"

"There is that one thing."

"Now. If you're done, how about we don't waste this day any further?"

"Well m'lady," he pulled her closer again, "I believe I owe you a dance."

At berk

"Any luck?"

"I followed them to this cove. Just off Raven's Point. It seemed like they knew the place pretty well. They just sat there for a while. It looked like Hiccup was crying and Astrid was comforting him."

"Why would she do that?" Snotlout asked. Though Stoick had an inkling, he couldn't be too sure. The only one who could really answer the question was Fishlegs. But he wasn't going to say anything.

"Anyways, they were there for almost an hour altogether but they left."

"Left? What do you mean?"

"They ran away again sire. And it doesn't look like they're going to be back any time soon. I'm sorry chief," she answered with fake sympathy.

"Well then. I guess we're going to have to look for them. Now that we know how."

And here we are.
I did promise another chapter. This one is a bit shorter than the last.
I'm finishing school in a few days so I might just post again this week to celebrate.
Think of it as a christmas present.
Love you all.
Bug out sky riders.👋
