Reassurance

I woke up really late.

A few weeks before Viggo's death.

"Hello Sigyn," a familiar voice brought her out of daze.

"Viggo. What brings you here?"

He showed her the large cut on his arm, clearly made by the talons of a dragon, "I was helping your brother wrangle some particularly wild dragons on the west side of the Island and one managed to slash my arm before Hiccup managed to calm it down. He sent me here to get it checked. I also need some new paste for my face so it works out," she nodded at him and pointed at the seat on front of her. He sat down.

"Okay. Let's start with this cut then," silently, she began to mix some honey, turmeric and Aloe Vera into the mortar,  crushing them to make a pulp like texture.

Viggo, in the meantime, was studying her. Usually, when he came to her for medicine and remedies, she was always blabbing about about some new medical discovery she had found out, or her adventures with Luna Selene.

The only other time he had experienced her being this quiet was when he had first joined the riders. No one really noticed apart from himself and her family, but they couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. So he had asked Hiccup if he could try getting her to open up and, after a few fails, he had discovered what was bothering her.

She had had a dream. No- a nightmare. About the death of someone in their tribe. And it had come true. And she couldn't cope with it. But she couldn't tell anyone either.

Because it wasn't the first time.

"You had a nightmare again didn't you?" She dropped the brush she was using to apply the mixture on, causing some of it end up on his clothes.

"Oh-Uh sorry. I'll- uh- I'll clean that up for you," her hands scrambled across the table, looking for a cloth to wipe his clothes with, but Viggo grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face him.

"How long have you been having this one?" She remained silent, looking at her feet, "Sigyn, tell me."

She sniffed and whispered, "Since last week."

"Who?" She shook her head, "Sigyn, who is it?"

"Someone I care about."

"Sigyn. Please tell me who. I promise me we will get through this together."

"But we can't. Not this time," His eyes widened as she bit her lip and let the tears flow.

"When?"

"Wh-what."

"When am I going to die?" She choked a sob and he took the cloth from her, using it to wipe her tears.

"I don't know. Soon? I've never known the exact time until it actually happens. Just that it will happen no matter what I do," He grabbed her hand.

"It's okay Sigyn."

"No it's not."

"Sigyn."

"You don't understand do you? It isn't okay. Not for me."

"It will be."

"No! It won't. Do you know how hard it is when you know how everyone you know will die. Especially when this time it's the only person that has been as close as a father to me than anyone else."

"You think of me as a father?" She gasped and her hands flew to cover her mouth. He smiled, "I think of you as a daughter," he admitted.

"Really," she asked in a small voice.

"Yes. You opened up to me more than anyone else even though I had done so many things wrong. And even though I also now think of Hiccup and Astrid as my own, you were the first to make me feel like a father," He brought her hands down and stared at her seriously, "I know I'm not your actual father but I'll tell you now that if I were him, I would tell you that sometimes you have to accept that the people you love will not be here for eternity. That includes me."

"But, I can't accept it."

"Yes you can. You might be sad but all you have to do is remember. You can't throw your life away just because I won't be here anymore," She responded with another sob and he wrapped his arms around her, whispering words of consolation and lightly kissing her temple.

Back to the present

Sigyn had been sitting on the cliff, thinking about one of her last memories with Viggo. In the short time he had been on their side, she had looked up to him like a father. Apart from her family, he was the only one who was able to give her advice, the only one to comfort her, the only one to show he cared for her.

She felt a tap on her shoulder and found her brother looking down at her.

"Hey. What are you doing up so late?" He asked, sitting down next to her.

"I should be asking you the same question."

"I made Astrid go to sleep earlier than because she was feeling a little sick. I couldn't sleep so I decided to have a little flight."

"Any reason why you couldn't sleep?"

"A few," he wrapped an arm around her and she lay her head on his shoulder, "I think the wedding nerves are getting to me. And everything that has happened in these past few days have made me restless."

"Don't worry too much brother," She patted his hand, "Remember, this time next week you'll be married to the love of your life."

He smiled, "I know. I can't wait. I just can't help being nervous."

"It happens."

"So, what's been keeping you up? And don't try to avoid answering. You're my sister. I can tell when you're lying."

She sighed, knowing her brother was right, "I had another nightmare," he looked at her, eyes full of sympathy. His sister had been plagued with these nightmares and there wasn't a way he could help to stop it, "Don't ask me who it was about because I don't want to tell you."

"I won't. Just don't hesitate to cry or take it out when I'm around. You know how much I hate it when you keep it in."

"Thanks. But I think I will be fine," It's you who won't be fine. I'm sorry brother.

"If you say so," She turned her head to face him.

"You know, Viggo knew he was going to die."

"He did?" Hiccup's voice cracked, evidently shocked at the revelation.

"Yeah. And he accepted it so easily."

"He was a better man than anyone credited him to be," she nodded in agreement.

"He told me that sometimes you have to accept that the people you love will not be here for eternity. And you shouldn't throw your life away because of it."

"He was right. It will be hard at times but you can, and you will move on."

"You should remember that too brother," she unwrapped herself from her brother's hold and stood up, "I'm going to go now."

He stood up as well, "I should too."

"Oh and Hiccup, thanks for being the best brother I have always wanted."

"Thanks for being the little sister I thought I could never have."

She smiled sadly before mounting Luna and riding to her house.

Hiccup frowned. There was clearly something going on with his sister, but he didn't want to push her. She had already been through too much and he didn't want her to feel worse than she already was.

At Sigyn's house

Stumbling off of Luna, Sigyn's eyes became blurry as it filled up with tears.

She went to her desk and began to write on a piece of parchment as she tried rubbed her eyes, trying to clear her vision. She wrote without rest for a few minutes, only stopping when a teardrop fell onto the parchment.

"I'm sorry," she whispered, sniffing.

Once she finished writing, she wrote her name at the bottom and dropped the charcoal. She rolled the paper up and put it into the bag she had gotten as a birthday present from Viggo. It was the only bag she used regularly.

She stood up, shaking, and made her way to her bed. Burying her head into her pillow, she released her emotions and began to bawl uncontrollably, mumbling apologies to her loved ones and wondering why she had to be cursed with such nightmare's.

The door opened a few minutes later, making her quickly try to wipe evidence that she had been crying, "Hey Si- why are you crying?"

"I- I'm not. What is it Tuffnut?"

He closed the door and sat on her bed, "That doesn't matter. What matters is that you've been crying. And I want to know why."

"Why is it so important to you?" She asked, turning her head to face him and glared at him. (like brother, like sister)

"Because. I like you. In a way that I've never liked anyone else before. And I care about you. Even if you don't like it, you need someone to be there for you. Since I'm here, why can't it be me?"

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have been rude. I know you're just trying to help," She sat up.

"So, do you want to tell me or do you want me to comfort you?"

"Comfort."

He slowly moved closer to her and wrapped his arms around her. She put her head against his chest and he stroked her back, whispering, "It will be okay. It's going to be okay."

After calming down, Sigyn smiled a bit. Tuffnut had reassured her just like Viggo had done years before. It reminded her that she needed to accept that she shouldn't go through everything alone. Not when she had people like Hiccup and Astrid and her mum and dad, and now Tuffnut as well.

She looked up at him, pushing him away slightly so she could see him better, "Thanks," she lightly pecked him on the lips, "I've never really had anyone be there for me apart from my family."

"Uhhhhhh," he couldn't talk, the small gesture of affection seemingly shocking him into silence.

"Oh! I'm sorry! I don't know what came over me," She quickly moved away from him embarrassed.

"No, it's okay," he said, pulling her from her waist so she was close to him again, "It's fine. I was just shocked because it was the first time anyone's ever kissed me."

"Really? Mine too. Or well the first time I've kissed someone."

"Are you feeling better now."

"Definitely," She rested in his arms and brought him down so their heads were on the pillow. The last thing she remembered was the feeling of lips on her forehead before she finally went to sleep.

Hello there. So Tuffnut was a bit OOC but we've never really seen how he acts when he is in love. Apart from when he's with Chicken. So I wanted to play with it a bit.

I don't really have anything else to say.

Bug Out Sky Riders.
