Only Human
Hi. Here's a cute picture of Jimin to make you feel better. Ps. I dont remember if it was like this before but all thoughts are in italics without speech marks.
This is going to be a long chapter.
Luna landed in the middle of the village still reluctant to let her other half go.
"Sigyn. Please. There has to be another way."
"There is no other way. You promised me Luna. That you'd give them my word."
"My yak."
Sigyn looked at the girl who was pointing to the Meade Hall and clutched onto her, jumping on the ground with her.
"Luna, there's a letter in my room. Tell them to read it."
"But I dont want you to leave. Sigyn. You can't go."
"I have to."
"And what about the little girl."
"She's already gone."
"What? She's right there."
"You wont under- just go please. Luna. I know you care for me but this is something you can't save me from."
"I'm sorry Sigyn." Luna cried out, trying to delay her flight as much as possible.
"I know. I'm sorry too."
Sigyn watched as Luna turned and got ready to take flight. She glanced at Sigyn, "Goodbye, my beautiful soulmate."
"Goodbye Luna."
"Where is the dwagon going?"
"Home. Come on sweetie. It's time for you to go home too."
"What do you mean?"
"You are cold. Colder than a normal human. And you are not in your own time or your own place. So go. Your work here is done. And thank you. For warning me."
The girl smiled, her demeanour changing in an instant, "You are a beautiful being Sigyn Haddock. One of my favourite so far and more so than your brother in some cases," Her voice, which had been so childlike a few moments ago had transformed into a voice, not unlike her mother's and it provided Sigyn with a sense of protection, "And you are so willing to die. For what?"
"I have no choice."
"There is always a choice my dear," it was weird. The voice, with the appearance of the little girl, had so much wisdom, yet still looked so innocent. So fragile. And so afraid. But Sigyn could see in her eyes just how much it had seen in its lifetime. This wasn't a little girl, rather something that had just used the image of the girl to reach out. To comfort her? To help accept her destiny? To pity her?
"The girl. The one you have taken form of. Who is she?"
"She was Hel, before she became so tortured and so alone. She was once so innocent but now her mind is corrupt and has been invaded." Oh-She pities Hel.
"She looks like she went through Hell and back. What happened to her?" Well she is Hel. Shut up. You are about to die and you are making jokes. Wow.
"She was given a gift. Like you. But her father had messed with it. He messed with our will for her and her destiny changed. The laws of her time had been rewritten because he had killed her mother (I've been watching too much doctor who again) and what we had wanted for her had disappeared. She created a new path, one that we had not foreseen and still cannot clearly see. The first step she took on that path was the murder of her own father. In cold blood. This is why the body is so cold. Which is why I brought you here. You have seen your own death have you not?"
"Shouldn't you know that already?"
"As I said. We cannot clearly see the path she has taken. And that includes her interference with your life."
"So," Sigyn waved her hands in circular motions, trying to comprehend what was being said.
"So, if we cannot see her path clearly, it means that there is one tiny possibility that she will not kill you and you may be able to live."
One possibility. One tiny possibility. But-
"But I saw my death. And my dreams- they always come true."
"Time can be changed with even the smallest of actions. All you have to do is find the right one. Whilst we create the general path for you, there is always a different, sometimes longer, route" Sigyn's mind was a mess. For the longest time she had tried to come to terms with her death. She always thought that she should embrace the darkness that came with it. If she couldn't save anyone else, how could she save herself? But now she was basically being told that she could.
"You said her mind had been invaded. By what?"
"Darkness. It had invaded her so much so that now it is all she sees. But she can be changed. She just needs to be provided some warmth. After all, she's only human "
"There's always light at the end of the tunnel," Sigyn replied.
"My dear. The last thing I can tell you is to find the symbol and hold onto it tightly. For you will find the strength and the courage to survive. Goodbye my dear."
Did she say - "Wait! What do you," but it was too late. She had already faded away, "mean symbol? What symbol? Where do I even-" Her disappointment carried through her voice and her mouth sunk in dismay.
I guess I am by myself from this moment on.
Okay- let's start with that symbol. What did she mean by symbol. Think Sig. Think.
She knew that now was more important than ever because in less than an hour she would most likely be dead. So that gave her at least fifteen to thirty minutes to look for that symbol if she had any chance to survive. Well, the only word she had to back that up was that of an entity who had taken the past form of the person that would supposedly bring doom to Sigyn's life. So for all Sigyn knew, she would not survive anything.
But she would die trying at least.
She tried to remember the dream- of course she could remember it. She could recall every detail of it. And it all happened in one place- The Meade Hall. Wait! Didn't the magical being thing point there before? The symbol- oh Thor you are as thick as the vikings who occupied this land.
She ran. As fast as she could. If she was paying attention she would brag that she was almost as fast as a lightning bolt sent down to the Earth from Thor himself. But all her attention was getting to the hall and finding it before Hel did.
She had seen it before. It had just been sitting there.
Alone.
Gasping for breath, she entered the hall and ran towards where she had seen it last, relieved to find that it was still there looking as neglected as the little girl had.
'Hello Sigyn.'
The voice. It sounded just as the little girl had when her voice had changed. That same motherly tone and protective feeling.
Where are you? Why did you come back? Why can't I see you?
'I have not come back. I was always here. I just needed to bring you to me in order to help you.'
But where are you?
'Right on front of you.'
What I don- There sitting on the table was the thing she had been looking for until she had been interrupted.
The yak. The fluffy yak that the little girl had been pointing her towards since they met.
You're a yak?
'Yes well, sort of. I am stuck in this form. I was only able to project my voice into my memories of my child when I last saw her- the little girl who you saw-in order to reach out to you.'
But that means that you are her mother? How? I thought-
'That I died. Yes. I almost did. And I am at the verge of dying still. Which is why I need you. Come closer dear."
Half an hour later
"Well if it isn't the girl who has come to die," Sigyn who had been sitting patiently at the table, hands folded on the table, looked up and glared fiercely at the woman. Sigyn could still see the little girl's essence trapped in her, crying and pleading for help.
"And you are?"
The woman frowned, annoyed that a measly human had the audacity to anger her, "I am your end. Fear me."
Sigyn laughed.
"Fear you? Why?"
"Are you not afraid of death?"
"Maybe I am. But I am not afraid of hel."
"Well you will die with a new fear then," Sigyn smiled.
"Not today." (No not today. No not today 🎶🎶. Ok I'll stop)
"Tell me then Sigyn. How did you see me killing you? By weapon? By magic? Or by my bare hands?"
"Why don't you decide, Hel?" She spoke mockingly, angering the woman more.
Hel walked towards her and Sigyn released a short breath. This is it I guess.
"You are an infuriating girl."
"Of course you would think so. After all. You're only human."
Sigyn moved her hand underneath the table and grabbed the yak, bringing it into the vision of Hel, whose eyes widened in shock.
"You recognise it don't you."
"Yes," She tried to avoid looking at the yak but she was drawn to it, as she always was.
"Tell me about it," Her eyes flicked towards Sigyn.
"Why?"
"Well I am going to die aren't I?" She shrugged her shoulders carelessly, "So why not? It's not like I will tell anyone."
Hel reached the table and sat on front of Sigyn, "It was made by my mother. She said it would protect me from everything in this world."
"I had something just like this," Sigyn looked at the yak and stroked its fur, "My mother made me a toy dragon. It was my favourite. Apparently she had made one for my brother too but he was scared of it," she chuckled.
"But it was a lie," Hel slammed her hand on the table, making Sigyn flinch, "It didn't protect me. And it certainly didn't protect her."
"You are so angry. Why?"
"Why shouldn't I be? All my life I have been hurt. Yet no one helped me."
"So now you want to get revenge."
"No!" She was visibly shaken by now. Sigyn could tell that her words had affected her and she watched as Hel stood up with a glare, "Dont tell me what I want because you don't know how I feel. No one knows what I have gone through to get here but you will all die wondering." (Gurl you need some serious therapy please)
"What are you waiting for then."
Her arms lunged forward and she grabbed at Sigyn's chin harshly with one hand and placed her other firmly at the back of her head, pulling Sigyn closer towards her so their eyes were levelled with each other. Hel stared at Sigyn's face, slightly taken aback by how her eyes were glistening at her and she had to look away. Her eyes wandered down Sigyn's body until it glued itself on her waist before it looked back up to the girl's face.(Why does this feel like Hel is about to aggressively kiss Sigyn instead of killing her. I'm tempted to actually make it happen but it will literally make no sense to the story. Just know I imagined it happened and you guys can too.)
"I should of killed you as soon as I stepped into this room."
Sigyn squeezed the yak and braced herself from what was coming. May the gods save this poor soul. And she wasn't thinking about herself.
On the island
"Astrid. You have to listen to me. There isn't much time."
"Sigyn-what? Where are we? What happened? What happened to your neck?" Sigyn rubbed her neck a little but decided to avoid the last question
"I'm in your mind Astrid. Right now you are being healed by the bewilderbeast from the curse. After this you will wake and find that I am actually not on the Island." This earned a raised brow from Astrid.
"And what are you doing?"
"Currently, well. You might not like this. But, um."
"But what Sigyn?"
"I'm kind of dying right now." She had a sort of sheepish smile on her face but her eyes were full of apology for her family.
"What? Sigyn. Don't joke with me now!"
"I'm not! Listen. I need you and Hiccup to get to Berk. You need to stop her from raising her army and taking over the archipelago."
"Stop who? Nothing you are saying is making sense." Astrid's arms waved around, quite like how Hiccup's would when he was explaining something.
"Hel. The human equivalent to the goddess Hel. And everything will make sense. I promise. You just have to trust me."
"Of course I trust you Sig. What do we need to do? How can we save you?"
Sigyn came forward and brought Astrid into a hug, "I'm sorry sister. You can't save me. It's too late for you to do that."
Astrid sniffed into her shoulder and Sigyn waited for a minute as she comforted her.
"You knew didn't you."
"I did. I'm sorry Astrid. And tell my brother I'm sorry. I love you guys, you know that right?"
"And we love you. But you don't have to do this," Astrid placed her hands on the younger girl's shoulders, "you have so much more to do in your life."
"And so do you Astrid. You got my brother to marry and dragons to save. More than what I've going on. Astrid, just promise me you will do what I tell you to. It's my last wish."
Astrid looked into her eyes sadly, grabbing her head and pushing it down slightly to rest her chin onto Sigyn's hair, "Just tell me what I have to do." She closed her eyes, resisting the urge to start crying again, and she pressed a gentle kiss on her younger sister's forehead as Sigyn began to tell Astrid what her and Hiccup needed to do.
And then she woke up.
Y'all are probably confused. Is she dying. Is she not. All will become clear in the last few chapters. Hey, we are coming to the end of this book soon. Gosh it's gonna be sad. We have about 6 chapters left and then we are done.
Anyways it kinda took longer to write this chapter because I had some problems at home that I needed to sort out.
Also I have decided to start writing a Namjoon fic. But it's most likely not going to be posted here (maybe it will I'm not sure yet.) It will be posted on my YouTube channel that I have made specifically for fics so if you if you like reading bts fics and want a Namjoon one cuz theres an abundance of good RM fics then be sure to watch out for it. Here's a sneak peak....
Bye my lovelies ♡
