Matrimony
Hello. As this is an extra chapter it's probably going to be shorter than usual though I always say that and it ends up being longer than I thought it would be. P.s. the song I was listening to whilst writing to this.I need to watch this drama again!!! Yes I'm a kdrama fan and have been since 2017.
So I don't know if I specified but Astrid and Hiccup's relationship started similarly to what happened in rtte. Though probably a little earlier. And without the gang.
Yes this it what you think.
A few months later
You would think.
Since the island- now New Berk- had spent months preparing for a wedding that had been ruined because of an unstable psychopathic demon witch who just had to curse our lovely couple (thank you Gobber for that great description), that the people of new Berk would not be as excited to prepare for this wedding again.
But no- they were excited. Possibly even more than they were last time it happened
Because this was it.
This was when Hiccup and Astrid, the most famous couple across and outside the archipelago would be getting married.
Finally.
It was meant to be the biggest ceremony of this generation. People had heard of the two who had went through so much, even a curse that had tried to break them apart, but only together would they allow themselves to go forward in life.
It was unbelievable!
Which was why multiple ships were lined across the shore to witness the two who had gone through the impossible, unite for the rest of their lives through to Valhalla.
People were bustling around the island and guests from all around were coming to congratulate the couple, blessing them with happiness and good fortune and of course.... babies!
Yes! Babies.
Something that Stoick had been hinting at for months. (What? He wants grandchildren ok!)
Hiccup and Astrid had of course laughed in their faces awkwardly everytime it was mentioned. People- especially the elders- thought that it was because they were still shy in some areas of their lives coughmakingbabiescough.
Which of course they would be. It's not like they had been living together for years now and it's not like they had a lot of time to themselves where there would definitely be nights where they would surrender into each other's desires.
Definitely not!
Truth to be told, a few nights back, Astrid had been getting boughts of nausea so Hiccup took her to Gothi and Sigyn(who's vocal cords had been healed)- who had started working together as healers, reducing the proportion of sick vikings effortlessly.
The result was that they suspected that Astrid was pregnant, though it was too early to confirm.
Whilst both were overjoyed at the revelation, they had decided to keep it a secret until they could fully confirm it. The wedding was also happening (today!) so they decided to hold off announcing to at least their parents until after the wedding.
That way, the elders would not even suspect that anything happened until after the marriage and Astrid could be safe from scandalous remarks.
What was more important right now, however, was walking down the aisle without any problems.
And that's where they were now.
Hiccup, at the lifted platform conveniently in the middle of new Berk. Astrid at the end of the pathway created by the guests who separated in the middle to make way for her.
She was adorned in a dress made of white silk and embroidered in gold. Hiccup was wearing a similar attire, the embroidery symbolising the beginning of a new life together. They both wore furs, hers in white, his in a deep brown. Various gold pieces were arranged on their attire and, to tie their look together, both were wearing flower crowns. (though Hiccup's was more of a leaf crown lets be honest.)
Hiccup looked at the woman he had been through so much with. They had started out as teens who made a somewhat irrational decision but they had matured and become stronger together. He didn't feel anxious, like he had before. There were no nerves and all he could feel was anticipation in the last moments before his girlfriend became his wife.
Astrid, this time, did not feel nervous either. At all. Why would she. After everything they had been through, she felt that the only thing she wanted to do was get married to him.
She remembered Hiccup's words after they had found out that they may be expecting.
"No matter what happens, I will always love you."
He had looked into her eyes in a way that made her heart yearn for more and kissed her after that.
And that's all that mattered. That Hiccup loved her and that she loved him. And they knew that. Even when they didn't say it through words, their little touches and looks at each other were enough to assure each other that "I love you". It was their own way of love. The touches. The affection. The longing glances to just be alone with each other.
It would continue forever.
Though the dress was sort of uncomfortable it had been better than how it was made before, even if it was simpler. She didn't mind if it meant she was able to move more freely.
And neither of them were in any pain, which was a good sign.
Astrid smiled and walked down the pathway with her father- who had, along with her mother, settled down at New Berk.
After running away with Hiccup, she had never thought that she would see her parents again. And she had been fine with that. But now they were even there for her wedding. It seemed that her life had finally reached the point of bliss she had been hoping for since she was born.
She hoped it would last the rest of her life.
And, yes. There may be times when they would face challenges, just like they had done throughout their life so far. But they would get through it. Like they always have.
She reached Hiccup, who had been joined by Stoick (he had been chosen to officiate the wedding) and her father had placed her hand into Hiccup's.
They locked their eyes on each other and from that moment, they could do nothing but stare, not even hearing the words that were coming out of Stoick's mouth.
Even when the ceremonial cloth was being wrapped around their hands, they ignored everything around them. (So I looked it up and there's this thing called handfasting where the hands are wrapped together or in some instances tied together so the couple can make a knot and it symbolises union which is what I believe they did here. Its actually such an adorable tradition. I put my own twist to it- really I just made up their vows like people who write their own vows in modern ceremonies.)
Well, until a huge cough interrupted them.
Both of them abruptly looked towards Stoick and couldn't help but laugh along with their guests, who had been watching the loving couple interact with eager eyes.
"You told me you had written some words to say to each other?" Stoick looked at them expectantly.
"Oh, ah. I guess I should start?" Hiccup said, "Astrid. Well. I-uh think you know by now, just how much I love you, how much I have loved you, and how much I will always love you. So all I want to say to you right now is that I promise that with my love, I will care for you, love you and stay by your side for the rest of our lives. We have gone through many obstacles together, but no matter what, we have overcome them to get here today. I believe that even if we hadn't run away that day, we would still come to this point today, our hands joined in matrimony, as we promise each other a life full of love and content, together." He took a deep breath and pulled her a little closer. The audience watched in awe as the young chief continued, "Do you remember when you had been temporary blinded, I said something to you? As we stood in the storm and you had been feeling down and I told you that I am with you. I said There will always be a Hiccup and Astrid."
Before he could finish, she cut in with a toothy smile, "Always."
He grinned at her and their hands, underneath the cloth, gripped each other tightly.
"Astrid, It's your turn to speak," Stoick whispered, not wanting to take the attention away from the two.
She cleared her throat.
"Hiccup. Well... I'm not as good at this speech thing as you are so I'm just going to tell you what I feel when I think about you. You are my other half. Without you I would never feel the happiness and excitement you have brought into my life. Before all of this, the dragons and all of the adventures, my life had been dull and like every other viking on Berk. But you showed me how magical life could be and you made me the person I am today. The person who loves you with all of her heart and will stay by your side even when we are with the gods in Valhalla. I guess, what I'm saying is, you're stuck with me forever." The audience laughed and Hiccup let out his own chuckle, amused at what she had said, "Truthfully, I am thankful that throughout my life, you were there and you will continue to be there for me, as I will, you. I love you Hiccup Haddock. And I will always stay by your side."
"Always," he said.
His father blessed them with a few words and finally, Hiccup and Astrid sealed their union with a sweet kiss.
In the background the booming voice of Stoick shouted, "I present to you, The Chief and Chieftess of New Berk!" And the people around clapped and cheered for the Newlyweds who had ended the kiss and stood side by side, smiling at their people who had come to celebrate them.
I will end this chapter here and we will have another short extra chapter which will really be the last, to wrap the whole story up.
See you lovelies 😘
