Aftermath

This is probably going to be a short chapter maybe not. P.s I know I said I had like 6 chapters left but I kind of reduced it cuz I decided I didn't want to do some of the things I was planning on doing because I didn't want to cry.

Hiccup and Toothless came out of the great hall. Hiccup's eyes, even from a distance, had tinges of red- he had, obviously, been crying.

He looked around at the place he had grown up in. Where he had spent the worst and the best moments of his life. The place he had ran away from, afraid of the consequences of his actions but also free from the harsh judgement of his father's people. The place from where he had taken a girl ("I came on my own accord" She would say, proudly) who had been so promising to the tribe- with her excellent skills in battle and her equally amazing mind for tactics of war-and he had shaped her into everything that went against what Berk had been about. The place which had finally been able to accept his way of living. Accept him.

Now it was nothing but ice and debris

Luna came out from behind him, Sigyn sitting up, alive but clutching to Luna's back tightly, coughing immensely. Luckily, he had come just in time to save her. The only reason they had taken so long was because they had been waiting for the air to clear around them a bit more and the dragons had formed a protective shell around them.

He could feel the sigh of relief that went around the Island, and people began to shout in joy that the girl who was prepared to sacrifice her life for all of them, had been alright.

Finally, Hiccup glanced towards his mother, who had been holding someone in her arms.

Not just anyone.

"Astrid!"

Hiccup hastingly walked towards them and quickly dropped to the ground on front of his mother. She passed Astrid to him, consoling him that, "She's okay, just resting."

His stiff stance relaxed as he cradled his fiance and closed his eyes.

A big figure came up behind him and patted his back in assurance.

Without opening his eyes he whispered, "Dad, I'm sorry."

A few days later

Sigyn had been placed in her mother's house to rest. Whilst she had (she thought it was surprising) not died, she was ultimately made to rest as gothi had made sure she would fully recover before doing anything that could put strain on her.

Furthermore, she was forced to try speak as little as she could due to the fact that when she was strangled, it had caused some damage to her vocal cords. Gothi believed that if she rested her voice for a while, it would be back to normal after a month or two.

She felt kind of embarrassed. She had cried to her brother and even wrote a letter to him -which he still read(and most definitely cried whilst reading)- apologising for dying but she had escaped her supposedly fated death.

Mostly though, she felt relieved. Why wouldn't she?

She still had so much to do and see but because of one of her dreams she had shut herself down and accepted her destiny. And yes, maybe her dreams had some truth in it- a little part of her full of sorrow and anguish had died that day- and her dreams had never been wrong before. But it hadn't taken into account that she had people who loved her and would do anything to make sure she stayed alive. She had friends including the new ones like Tuffnut- who, maybe was something more- and she had her family. Her brother, her sister (in-law), her parents. The dragons.

She wasn't going to waste her life away, and she wouldn't let anyone else do so either.

Which is why, despite what Gothi told her (or, more-so, wrote to her), she was on her way to her brother's house to make sure he didn't waste his life away.

Because even after everything he had been through, the Gods still felt as though they had to test him. Hiccup. Her poor brother. Who still hadn't gotten married to love of his life.

Because she was still unconscious.

"Sigyn, where are ya off to lass?" Her father asked.

As Hiccup was currently not in the state to do his role as Chief, Valka-as acting chief- had oficially declared that the people on Berk were free to settle on the Island- seeing as their home had been destroyed.

They did their best to save it but they had found that the aftereffects of Berk being crushed with ice and fire and whatever magic Hel had used on  it had made the, once thriving island, barren and inhabitable.

As a result, Hiccup had asked Stoick if he would like to move the tribe to the Island, as there was plenty of space for all of them. Stoick had agreed and most of the hooligan tribe had made the move to the Island, a few families deciding to go to one of the neighbouring Islands whom of which those, like Heather were more than happy to welcome.

Sigyn wrote in the pad of parchment she carried with her I'm going to see Hiccup.

"I'll come with you. I was just about to go myself." Sigyn smiled at him instead of responding.

It was weird for her, to have a father. She had never had any male parental figure in her life- unless the bewilderbeast counted and, well, Viggo- so she had always wondered what a father would be like for her. Until she met Hiccup, who as much as a brother, he was also like a father to her, It was hard to picture what a father would be like. Her mother didnt really go into detail about what her father was like. But she had found a lot of similarities between Hiccup- who had never wanted to be like their father- and Stoick. In a good way, though. Whilst Stoick may be a little testy at times, she had realised that he had always cared in his own way. He cared about her mother and he cared about Hiccup. He cared about her, the girl he had known as his daughter for not even that long.

And she liked it.

They both walked together towards Hiccup's house, Luna (who had been rather overprotective of her lately) followed closely behind. She couldn't help but smile as her father told her about how he had fell in love with their mother and how it took him lots of failed attempts to ask her put before they got together. It sort of reminded her of Hiccup and Astrid, who had both been running around each other for so long before they finally had the courage to admit their feelings for each other.

She hoped that she could, one day love someone like her father did her mother, and like Hiccup did Astrid.

Her train of thought was cut off once they reached the house.

Stoick knocked on the door and waited for the door to open. Instead of Hiccup, it was her mother who opened the door.

"There you are. Oh. Sigyn, dear. You're here too. Are you feeling alright?" Sigyn lifted her thumb up and Valka let them in the house.

"You came at the right time," She said, almost sarcastically.

"Is Astrid alright?" If she wasn't worried about Astrid, Sigyn may have laughed at her father's face, or more-so his eyebrows- which, when worried would furrow down into his eyes as if they were blinding him.

"Gothi thinks she will wake up soon. I guess that finally put Hiccup's mind to rest because he's finally fallen asleep. You might want to move him next to her or he's going to get a stiff neck."

Stoick smiled softly and pressed a small kiss onto her cheek, "I'll go do that now."

Valka watched her husband go up the stairs before turning back to her daughter, "Sigyn. Why aren't you going up?"

Sigyn suddenly felt ashamed. She had been the one to bring Astrid to Berk. It was her fault that- no! She shook her head. You promised you wouldn't think like that.

She looked at her mother and gave a weary smile before following her father up the stairs.

Her heart wrenched at the sight of the two. Her brother looked pale and skinnier than usual. He seemed to be shuddering in his sleep so Stoick was in the process of putting the blanket over him.

Astrid looked even more pale. It was as if she had been infected with the scourge of Odin but this time there was no cure and she was on the verge of death. She seemed to be having a nightmare of her own and, despite her pale appearance, she was sweating.

Sigyn found her feet dragging her towards the two and she sat on the side of the bed next to Astrid.

She reached for her left hand and Hiccup's right, clasping them together. She didn't know why she did it, she just felt as if they belonged together.

And they did.

The always did.

No matter where they were or what they were doing, Hiccup and Astrid fit together.

And for a second, both seemed to relax, holding onto each other.

Content.

A few hours later

The family had left the two in their own home as it was night and they were ready to rest for the next they.

Gothi had promised she would keep an eye on them throughout the night and had even been offered a place to sleep in a closeby guesthouse. She accepted.

It had been after the third time she had checked on them (and left) when Astrid woke up.

She looked around the familiar room that she had lived in for quite some time now. It held memories of her and Hiccup from when they built it to countless nights of them sleeping in each other's arms (and even some nights of lust when they couldn't get enough of each other). It was the place where they could be themselves the most. It was their home.

She looked to her left and sat up with all of the remaining strength she had, wanting to get a better look at the man that was supposed to be her husband.

They never even got to the wrapping of hands.

She traced his nose lightly and her finger went down to his jawline- which was more prickly than usual. He must have been worried for her.

However soft her movements were, it was still enough to wake him up and grab her hand.

Astrid jumped slightly in surprise.

"You're awake."

He brought her palm to his lips and smiled.

"So are you."

He opened his eyes and looked at her and for  what seemed like an eternity, they stared. Astrid had always loved to look at his eyes. They always held so much emotion, and what was before sorrow, was now serenity.

They were both okay.

"I love you," he whispered, dragging her down to lay in his arms.

The corners of her mouth turned up and she rested her head on his chest.

"I love you too."

Hi. So technically this is the end. But I wanted to make 1 or two extra chapters full of just fluff and just to wrap this whole book together.

At the beginning I was planning to kill sigyn off but I really love her and I just couldn't do it. So I saved her. Believe me when I say I took years to decide whether she would die or not.

See ya soon lovelies.
