A Very Unorthadox Way
2 years later.
Astrid and Hiccup as well as the dragons had gone to The Defenders of the Wing for a couple of days in order to celebrate the alliance of the dragon riders with the Defenders.
It was the final day and they had split into two groups for the rest of the night: Hiccup, Dagur and Eret; and Astrid, Heather and Mala.
The boys were in the guest house- the girls had been insistent on taking Dagur and Mala's house- and were currently talking about Dagur and how he and Mala were expecting.
"She thinks it's going to be a boy. Imagine. A mini me! I told her that I'd rather have a mini malapoo running around."
"I'm sure that whatever it turns out to be, you'll both be great parents." Hiccup replied and Dagur nodded excitedly at the notion.
"I don't know if Heather and I want to be parents just yet. She said to me the other day that we should wait until your little one is born and see if we're ready by then. But I do know that one day we will definitely have some kids of our own."
"What about you brother?" Dagur turned to face Hiccup, "Do you want kids?"
"First I want to marry Astrid but yes. We talked about it and we thought it would be nice to have 3 or 4. Astrid and I both agreed that when we have a child, they'll have some siblings as well. Being an only child can be quite suffocating." Eret murmured in agreement, being an only child himself.
Hiccup sat there fiddling with the piece of metal in his pocket as they carried on talking for the rest of the night.
With the girls, a similar conversation had been going on.
"This baby has been pretty active. Every minute it's kicking and moving around."
"Considering it's the child of the queen of the Defenders of the wing and my deranged brother, I wouldn't be surprised." Astrid laughed at Heather's comment.
"Hiccup and I said that we want 3 or 4 children but I'm not so sure I want children now."
"Are you serious? A liittle Hiccup and Astrid would be so adorable to have running around."
"I was joking heather."
"Oh thank Thor. I can't wait for you two to have children."
"Why is it that she's more excited for us to have kids then herself? I'm not even married yet."
"When are you getting married?" Mala asked
"Well." She took the piece of jewellery out of her bag and showed it to them.
A few days later. Btw I think some of you already know what's coming.
After coming back to the Island, Astrid and Hiccup were getting ready for yet another journey, this time, to Dragon Island.
"Remember mum. Only if we are not back in a weeks time and we haven't sent you a letter must you come looking for us. We'll be fine." Valka grinned, a knowing look on her face.
"Aye son. I know you will. Just take care of her." Hiccup pouted and mumbled something along the lines of his mum caring more about astrid then him sometimes. Valka just chuckled and hugged him tightly.
Have you heard. Something big is going to happen whilst they're gone.
Really. Do you think they're going to do that thing.
What thing?
Ya know. The gifting thing that humans do.
Hint hint
What?
You know what, forget it. You're such a nightmare.
But, am I not a nightmare?
Ugh. Sometimes you are so dumb.
As the dragons were getting off topic, Astrid decided to stop listening and try to decipher the information that she had just heard. She narrowed her eyes in concentration but just couldn't seem to find a conclusion just yet. Unless- no way- it was just a coincidence that it was their anniversary. Hiccup even said that he was hoping to celebrate their anniversary there. Hiccup tapped her on the shoulder and she snapped out of her state.
"Huh what?"
"I said, are you ready."
"Oh. Sorry. Yes. I'm ready. I can't wait. Let's go." Hiccup frowned for a second and then took her bag and put it in stormfly's basket, humming as he did so.
Hiccup had never been this excited to go to dragon Island ever. He was up to something. And Astrid was going to find out what.
But not just yet. Right now she was worried about how she would reveal the small present she had made for him. Would he say yes?
Yes yes. These time skips are getting old and frankly annoying. Almost a day later.
"HICCUP. WATCH OUT."
"ASTRID. STAY CLOSE."
"HICCUP. TOOTHLESS."
"ASTRID NOOO."
They were falling. All four of them. They had tried to avoid the storm. They really did try.
But it was too strong.
And now they were falling.
"FIRE."
And now they had been captured.
Great. Just great. Hiccup thought.
And they had crashed.
The last thing he saw was astrid reaching out for him whilst surrounded by large humanoid figures with pointy horns.
Hehe. Another one.
"Hiccup. Hey. Wake up."
Blinking, he woke up and saw he was in a prison cell.
"Man it's been a while since we've been in one of these. This is going to be sooo fun." Under her mask, Astrid rolled her eyes.
"Shut up mr sassy pants. We're on Berk."
"WHAT." There was a bang on the metal.
"Yer finally awake yeh devils."
"We are not devils."
"On'y devils wou' fraternise with the enemy."
"That's a big word. How much of your brain capacity did that take up?" The viking growled and Astrid found herself rolling her eyes again.
"You and yer dragons wi' be on trial tomorrow."
"Good. I can't wait." Hiccup spat.
The viking, who they recognised to be Spitelout turned and ordered someone to guard them.
"H-hi. I'm just here to make sure you don't escape. Don't mind me."
Astrid and Hiccup looked at each other. Since when had Fishlegs joined the Berk guard?
We have one more teeny tiny timey wimey skip. A few hours later, after the sun had set.
Astrid and Hiccup were bored. They hadn't really done anything and they were annoyed. They'd tried to escape once but, despite what they knew about fishlegs, he was really good at catching them.
Astrid decided that there was no better time than now to ask him.
"So why were we really going to dragon Island then." Hiccup panicked and was grateful that he was still wearing his mask.
"Wh-what do you mean. We were going there for the same reason we always do."
"On the eve of our anniversary?"
"Umm."
Astrid moved closer to him and looked straight into his eyes.
"Babe? Are you going to tell me?"
"Uhhh."
"Babe? Did you break? What's wrong with you?" Hiccup sighed. It was now or never.
"Astrid," he whispered, still conscious of Fishlegs outside, "This really wasn't the way I had planned this to go. Umm. I had planned for us to go to Dragon Island and watch the sun set together before having a nice moonlit flight and then I was going to sing to you and at the stroke of midnight I was going to present you this." He took out a bronzy-gold ring with a stone the colour of their favourite beach on the island. It was simple but it was her. Astrid gasped and smiled at Hiccup.
"So what do you think?"
"It's beautiful."
Hiccup placed the ring around her finger and smiled as well.
"I-uh-I made it from the betrothal gift I got you. There was some left over chain and I used it to make this. So-umm, what I'm trying to say is that umm- will you marry me," Astrid burst into laughter. Hiccup frowned, "What. What is it? Did I say something wrong. Oh I knew I should of just waited." Astrid punched his shoulder.
"Off course I'll marry you muttonhead. I'm laughing because I was going to ask you to marry me," Hiccup's eyes widened and Astrid brought out a ring of her own, "I know it's not perfect but I tried as hard as I could to make it. Sigyn helped me a bit with the placement of the rock and your mother gave me the metal. She said it used to be from her mother's ring but it got melted by a dragon and she didn't know what to do with it until now."
"I guess we really are made for each other." Hiccup chuckled.
"I guess we are."
Hiccup lifted his helmet slightly and did the same with Astrid's helmet so both their noses were exposed. He grasped her chin with his right hand and caressed her cheek with the other before reaching down and capturing his lips onto hers, not caring that Fishlegs was watching them with a squeak. Luckily, he couldn't tell who they were.
After their little make out session, the couple put their helmets down and Astrid giggled.
"Well I guess we're getting married huh."
"Looks like it. Although, that was a very unorthadox way to make it official."
"Hey. We've always been pretty unorthadox haven't we? Why stop now?" She hugged him around his waist and they just stood there, forgetting that they were in a prison cell.
"I love you."
"I love you too." Astrid looked up.
"But seriously. You were going to sing?"
"I could sing right now if you want."
"Nope. When we get back home let's go on a date and you can sing then."
"Your wish is my command m'lady."
"You better be ready babe."
Fishlegs just stood watching them, gobsmacked. He had never seen prisoners who acted like they weren't in prison. Most prisoners would be crying and angry and would be trying to escape at least once every hour. Not only that but there was something familiar about this couple. Something he couldn't quite place.
He passed the keys to the guard on night shift and frowned as he walked out of the arena missing the looks the couple gave each other as they began whispering an escape plan to each other.
And I'm done. Sorry I'm a bit late today. It was a lot to write. Anyways. Next chap we are going to meet the rest of berk.
I hope you liked today's chapter.
Bug out sky riders. 👋
