A Choice of Acceptance

And we are back. Who knows. I might post 2 chapters this week. Maybe even 3. We'll see.

"I am Astrid Hofferson."

"And I am Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III" He looked straight up to his father's bearded face,"I am your son."

Stoick just stared at them, mouth gaping. There they were. His son and the Hofferson lass. They were standing right on front of him. And it would of been great. Amazing even.

If it wasn't for those two dragons standing behind them like they were all high and mighty. Stoick wanted to wipe that stupid, impossible smirk right off the night fury's face. But he wouldn't. Not yet at least.

"May the Gods have mercy on us all." He whispered, finally out of his stupor.

"Look Stoick," he winced at how his son addressed him, "We don't want any trouble. All we want is for you to let us go and maybe, just maybe, we can show you a better life for everyone."

"This is outrageous."

"They're consorting with dragons."

"Imagine us with dragons."

"Yeah. The explosions we could make."

"The chaos we can cause."

"The destruction."

"They're with the enemies."

"How can you listen to them Stoick?"

Stoick felt a tap on his shoulder and looked down to see Gothi.

"Everyone quiet down! The elder has made a decision," Gothi scribbled a few words in the dirt and Gobber whispered it in his ear, "She says. She says that we should do as they. We should give them a chance. And if that's what the elder wants, we can't disobey. I'm sorry everyone, but we must give then a chance."

"Great. Let's get started then."

"Only one chance."

"You do know that this means that we are only giving you one chance as well. Our deal goes both ways. And just so you know, as soon as you do anything, and I mean anything that we don't like and we don't agree with, you will be sorry." Hiccup smirked and Toothless barked with laughter.

"You are amazing, you know that?" Hiccup whispered in her ear, making her chuckle. Stoick stood there infuriated. His own son was mocking him. (No he isn't you idiot)

"What did he say? What did he tell you? Astrid I demand to know."

"And I demand that you shut up right now. Because that right there," she pointed at his face, "That is what I mean. Just because we're here, just because you have our attention right now, doesn't mean you can invade our lives and think that you can just walk back into it. You're not my chief, so you can't demand me to do anything. I only listen to people when I have to. But I will never listen to you."

"Now. If you would please open the gate, before you make her angry. That would be a start."

Stoick began to bark orders out. Two men opened the gate and people had been forced to put down their weapons. The four in the arena strolled out, Toothless currently glowing blue and growling, Hiccup with his sword drawn on front of him. He waved it around as a warning and as the vikings around him backed down, he pressed a button and the sword retracted back into the grip.

They walked to the Mead hall, Stoick and the council, as well as the four other teens-now adults who were had begged to join them. Another person- a girl- around the same age as them had joined too. But Astrid and Hiccup weren't really focused on her.

Hiccup sat on the chief chair, Astrid sitting right next to him. Although Stoick wanted make a fuss about it, he knew it wouldn't help him if he wanted to change their minds.

Hiccup put his hands together and spoke, "Astrid and I are only here to help you make a choice. But that choice is only something you can make. Whether it's now or 10 years from now. And that choice is whether you are going to accept the dragons or not."

"And why should we do that?" Stoick questioned, "Why would we accept these beasts who have fought us and hunted us for centuries?"

"They didn't do it on their own will," Astrid intercepted, "And when was the last time they have really attacked you? When was the last time you've had a proper raid? Or dragons who have come here, not to pass by, but to really, really, attack you. When was the last time they've attacked first."

"Uhh last week duh. And I gutted that dragon and ripped its heart out." Snotlout boasted whilst his father laughed and clapped him on the back.

"Thahs my boy Haha." (Still cannot believe this dumb head is voiced by the 10th doctor) Snotlout raises his head up in confidence.

"No you didn't Snotlout. You screamed like a baby." Ruffnut said whilst her twin laughed.

"Yer such an embarrassment sometimes." Spitelout mumbled. Snotlout whimpered and ducked his head down. Luckily he was the only one that heard.

"It was about 7 years ago. Just after you left. Before they went to the nest and defeated them. They attacked and that was the what made the chief decide to finally defeat the nest no matter what the cost."

"I'm sorry Fishlegs but did you just say that they defeated the nest?" Hiccup expressed, pointing in the general area of his father and the council of Berk.

"Well. Yes. They came back and told us how they won."

"Really? What sort of people are they. Taking someone else's victory as their own."

"They're cowards. That's what they are. Especially that big red bearded one."

"Toothless is right. You are cowards," Stoick's eyes widened. Toothless. He'd heard that name before, "How do you even know they're telling the truth?"

"By the Gods." He gasped out.

"Well he's our chief. We'd trust anything he says." A few people nodded, certainly agreeing with Fishlegs.

"You were there." Eyes turned to the Hooligan Chief.

"I'm sorry, what?"

"You were there. That day," he looked at Astrid, "We heard a voice scream. A girl. She said Toothless. And she screamed again. And we couldn't figure out what was happening. And she was you wasn't she?" His tried to steady his breathing but he couldn't when Astrid nodded.

"Wait. What? Are you telling me that they had something to do with the nest?" Snotlout questioned, finger pointed at Astrid.

"We di'n know. We di'n even see 'em."

"What exactly were they doing at the nest?" Fishlegs asked.

"I think it's time you learnt what truly happened. That's enough lies for today." Hiccup said. He looked at Astrid and she nodded.

"7 years ago, I found Hiccup and Toothless. They showed me a beautiful world on the back of dragons but we also found something that day."

"What was it?" Fishlegs asked, intrigued. It had been so long since he had been able to ask the questions he'd like to ask.

"It was a dragon. The size of a mountain. It was controlling the other dragons," Hiccup intervened, "And we left Berk. We left because we knew that you weren't ready to accept them, especially when you would find out about the Red death." Stoick scoffed.

"Red death. Cool. Do you think it's victims become red when they die?"

"Obviously. With all that blood gushing out how couldn't they be red bro?"

"You think we would accept dragons after knowing that? Even if they are being controlled. They've killed hundreds of us!"

"And you've killed thousands of them!" He shouted back, "Don't you see. They were forced to kill or be killed. You had a choice. And that could of saved so many more."

"Your mother was like this. But what happened to her? She got killed. Because she sympathized with them. And because of that she died at the hands of mindless beasts."

"If only you knew."

"Hiccup. All I'm trying to tell you is that you can stop being so wild and so unviking like. Because you're home now. Whatever these beasts have done to you, we can fix it."

Hiccup screamed and stood up, clearly frustrated, and banged his fist on the table.

"This isn't working."

"Hiccup. Listen to me."

"No Dad. You listen to me. We could of made the choice to leave the nest alone. We could of left it and let all of you idiotic vikings fight them off for centuries to come. But we didn't. And do you know why?"

"HICCUP. PLEASE."

"It's because even though I resented you for all those years. Even though I wanted to hate you. I still couldn't let go of the fact that you're my dad. That you could be dead and I could of done something about it." He closed his eyes and sighed. Astrid placed her hand on his shoulder and did the same.

"Hiccup. Why do you have to be like this. If you'd just listened to me then you wouldn't have to be like this. We could be father and son again. You could be the heir and pride of Berk. Do you not want that?"

"And this is why I didn't want to come back in the first place. Relationships aren't weapons. You cant fix them and mold them how you like. And you can't scrap them when you feel that they're useless. And you can't just pick them up whenever you need it because its convenient for you. But that's exactly what you did to me. Because I wasn't the son you wanted me to be, you ignored me and you left me to be bullied and ridiculed by almost everyone in the village. And now, because I'm here you want to use me again. You want me because it's better for you. For your pride. I bet you haven't even thought about if I even wanted to be the pride of Berk. And just so you know, I didn't. I wanted to be the pride of Stoick," he took a deep breath and whispered, "Not anymore."

"Now if you don't mind, Hiccup and I have barely gotten any sleep being in a prison cell all night, so we are just going to go and catch up on sleep." Astrid began to drag Hiccup towards the doors, eager to get him out.

"Where are you going? We haven't even given you a place to stay." Stoick queried, walking towards them and grabbing Hiccup's arm.

Hiccup tugged his arm away turned to look at him, "We have lived here for 15 years. I'm sure we can find a place to catch some shut eye without you interfering."

"And where's that?"

"How about, if we decide to give you a second chance, we will come here tomorrow and start afresh?" He replied, sarcasm seeping through his voice.

Both Hiccup and Astrid knew that wasn't really going to happen. Clearly Berk wasn't ready yet. And that was the hard truth to it all.

Berk simply was not ready.

Stoick wasn't ready.

His people weren't ready.

And they wouldn't waste their time trying to change the minds of people who weren't ready to accept them and the dragons.

Berk had made their decision.

But so had Hiccup and Astrid.

Tadaah. I'm thinking I might post another chapter today or tomorrow. Just for the fun of it. We're not even halfway so I wanna speed things up a bit. And I know all of you are very eager to find out what happens next.

I just want to thank you guys for consistently keeping up with my story and giving me support. It makes me feel happy and proud of myself so thank you.

Before I write a whole speech, I'm going to stop there.

Till next time.

Bug out Sky Riders👋😘.
