Judgement
*Mike's POV*
I felt like I walked for hours but it's been nearly half an hour until I got to the nearest place to sleep, the park in the next town. A park has benches...so...yeah. I plumped myself onto the nearest bench and slept.
I woke up the next morning to a small child staring at me, I sat up.
"Mommy, there's a man sleeping on the bench."
She automatically walked to us and grabbed him.
"Baby, stay away from him, he might be a stinky delinquent, don't want you to get sick."
I sighed as they walk away.
"Well, go ahead and teach that boy to judge people! Good parenting, the sixties in a darn nutshell," I said sarcastically.
They turned around.
"I mean you no harm, I just spent the night here, I'll be on my way in a bit."
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm travelling. I was thinking cross country."
"Where are you from?"
"One town back, that country town."
"Why are you traveling, did your parents kick you out?"
"No, I chose to do this on my own. I'm an over eighteen high school graduate. I've always wanted to travel."
I actually wanted to anyways.
"Do you have some clothes?"
"In my duffle bag."
"Out of curiosity, where did you get that duffle bag? My father had one like that?"
"My uncle served in the second world war, he gave it to me."
She nodded.
"My father's the first world war."
"I think it would be cool to fight in combat, I love playing Army with my daddy and my big brother. I have a collection of G.I Joes in my bedroom," the kid said as a smile formed on my face.
"Got one or two myself," I said.
I'm a tough guy who adores children. Is that weird? I think not!
"So, you think this decade in a nutshell is how I raise my kid?"
"Teaching him to judge someone you just met. Like you're white and I'm black. We're both white except I'm British American. Don't worry I won't raid you of your property."
We both laughed.
"Well, me and my son came here so we could play on the swings. You're welcome to join us."
I shook my head.
"No thanks, I was about to leave anyway. It was nice meeting both of you."
They waved at me as I was about ready to leave.
"Wait, let me give you something."
I walked to the woman she gave me a ten dollar bill.
"Here's some money for food, you don't wanna starve to death."
"Thank you ma'am, I appreciate it."
I walked away.
