siena's pov
i woke up with the biggest headache to ever exist after last night's antics. but i was glad that i had some aspirin ready in my bag that would at least calm down the pain.
we soon got away from the deserted roads and ended up on the freeway again to continue on to nevada.
as we drove on, i decided to finally turn my phone on after all these hours — it instantly started blowing up with texts and missed calls from my family and friends.
"looks like someone's popular" jack glanced over to me and mentioned.
"if it's not my parents trying to get a hold of me, it's avery and tiana".
"you should answer your friends, tell them, it's not like they'd go running to your parents" he advised.
i shook my head, "how do i know that?".
"well for one, they didn't tell them about you and me".
"true. but, i know that they'll tell me that what i'm doing is crazy and that i should just come home" i complained.
"then if they do, just hang up" jack leant one hand against the wheel as the car slowed down in the traffic. "that's the power of the end call button".
i scoffed, looking through the messages on my phone, "even kyle is asking where i am. there's no way that i'm telling him anything".
at that moment, my phone started ringing with a call from tiana and jack gestured for me to answer it so i hesitantly tapped the green button.
"hello?" i first spoke.
"siena, where are you?" she said with panic in her voice - i looked at jack and he reassuringly nodded.
"i'm not coming back if that's what you're going to try and convince me to do" i firmly told her.
"i just want to know that you're okay. what are you doing, who are you with?".
i lightly held my lip between my teeth, "i'm with jack, and everything back home, we just couldn't take it anymore or i just couldn't take it anymore".
"so, you're just going to runaway and that's it? do you even have a plan, where are you going to live, make money, what about school?" she questioned me and i kept silent without a valid answer to give. "...is this like a punishment to avery and i too?".
"what?".
tiana took in a breath, her voice slightly cracking, "did we like push you away or?".
"no, it's not like that. you two have been my best friends since diaper days and i know that i should have told you beforehand or given you some pre-warning, but i wasn't happy, tee".
"why didn't you just talk to us?" she asked.
i ran my fingers through my hair, "i-i don't know, i could only talk to jack. he's the only person that i felt like i could talk to. so, i'm sorry but—".
"siena, it's your parents" my mother's voice suddenly took over. "you need to come back right now. i don't know what sick stunt you are trying to pull, whether it is for attention or what, but if i don't see you through this door in the next few—".
i immediately took the phone away from my ear and hung up, before tears started to fall down my heated cheeks.
jack glanced at me and gently squeezed my thigh as we continued moving through the slow traffic, "hey babe, what's wrong? what did they say?".
"that was my mom" i managed to say. "she thinks that i'm doing this all for attention and i just—...the first thing she does is shout at me, not even ask if i'm okay or...".
i lightly breathed in and out to stop my tears for forming more heavily. i stared down at my phone in my hands, then reeled down the car window.
"you know what? i don't even care anymore" i said before throwing it straight out of the window.
"woah, woah" jack abruptly reacted, glancing at the side mirror and starting to pull over on the side. "why did you do that?".
"i know my parents, they'll try and track my call to find out our location...but i don't care if i never even see their faces ever again" i confessed, hanging my head low.
"really?".
i shrugged and soon faced him, "yeah, i'll get a new and cheaper phone, one that only you will know that i have".
jack reached over to me and rested his hand on my cheek, causing me to naturally lean against his warm touch, "you're sure about this? all of this, you have no regrets?".
"do you?" i raised my eywbrows and he let out a smile.
"no".
"then me neither" i added.
after my response, jack tried to face the wheel to start up the car again, but before he could, i stopped him by gently cupping his face in my hands.
i kissed him softly and he returned the gesture, before pulling away to lick his lips with a smirk and then kiss me once more.
"we should probably get back on the road" i suggested, my face still close to his.
"you started it" he whispered as his eyes fell down to my lips and back up.
"did i?" i questioned, smirking with guilt until jack playfully shook his head and continued to drive back onto the freeway.
after a short while, we noticed another rest stop with a small store and this time, i jumped out of the car, pulling on my grey hoodie and put my head through the window of the car door.
"need anything?" i asked jack.
"just water and maybe something sweet like candy".
"but you already have me" i pouted at him.
"that was lame, but cute, but still lame and true" he explained and i laughed then rolled my eyes at him.
"i'll get you your candy, don't worry" i called out to him, then made my way towards the store entrance.
i walked inside — the bell above the door ringing to signal a new customer, and made a bee line to get jack's candy, then a few waters and also a large pack of oreos.
i silently hummed to a song that was previously playing in the car, as i glanced at the top corner of the store, where a small tv sat, showing today's local weather.
i walked up to the cashier and settled the items in front of him, before the weather ended and switched to a few recent news reports.
something about the president, something about taxes, and then a report on recent missing people. the cashier just about finished scanning my items when a picture of me suddenly appeared on the screen.
my heart instantly raced at the headline. the picture soon disappeared and i noticed that the cashier hardly, and thankfully took a look at the report.
the news reader began talking more about the situation.
"...eighteen year old girl by the name of siena edwards from calabasas, la has gone missing. she was last seen by her parents at around 9pm two days ago in her room" the woman reported and i rapidly, but subtly gathered my paid items.
"her parents also reported that it is likely that the eighteen year old is travelling with a nineteen year old male, jack gilinsky" i walked close to the exit of the store, still continuing to watch the news.
"he has also not been seen since a similar time and the girl's parents see him as a threat to their daughter because—" .
after seeing enough, i rushed out of the door and put the hood of my hoodie up as i approached the car and hastily got in.
"jack, i just saw myself on the news" i panicked. "my parents...my parents, they've reported me as missing".
"what?! already?" he exclaimed.
"so, now the police are going to be looking for me to try and take me back, but i'm eighteen, they can't make me" i rapidly told. "right?...jack?".
"yes, yes, they can't".
"and you were on there too, they know i'm travelling with you and they think that you're some type of threat to me".
jack harshly pushed his hair back, then hit the steering wheel, "shit! okay, we're going to need to take this seriously. we have to stay low for a while".
"but i spoke to tiana and my mom, they know that i'm okay so maybe the news thing will eventually blow over".
"yes but now i'm involved, siena!" jack yelled. "and that just changes everything!".
i knitted my brows, confused by his words, "what are you talking about?".
"look, i'm sorry for shouting" he quietly apologised. "but until they cut down on the whole missing person's report, we need to keep our heads down for a bit".
i nodded my head and nervously bit on the skin of my lips, "okay".
jack leant over and kissed the top of my head, before turning the ignition back on and getting back onto the road.

with only a few minutes left until we arrive at the cabin, i spontaneously decided that it will be best for me to buy some hair dye to change up my appearance and make me less recognisable to other people.
we eventually pulled near a wooded area, which had a long path that lead to multiple big, brown cabins scattered around in their own space. jack's friend gave us a few directions to reach the one that we were staying at and we finally found it, before parking the car and taking our bags in our hands.
the cabin sat by a nearby lake and another was just across from us - i stared up at the large, wood-crafted house in complete awe at how tall it was. jack found the spare key as i continued gaze until he opened the door and we stepped inside.
we were immediately shown to an open living room, a spacious kitchen with a bar in the middle and a long staircase, that had a balcony at the top for you to look down at the ground floor.
everything was spotless, as it was almost as if it were a brand new house with the furniture included.
we both dropped our bags by the door.
"this seems like a lot for just us" i spoke.
"but that's a good thing, right?" jack stared around the house, before looking back at me.
"yeah, of course" i corrected.
"i mean, this is so much better than staying in cheap hotels every night. my friend told me that it has a hot-tub in the back" he came towards me.
"i didn't bring a swimsuit".
jack bit down on his bottom lip, eyeing me up and down, "you don't need one".
i held his chest back and playfully rolled my eyes, "keep it in your pants and let's go look upstairs".
we walked up the staircase and found three bathrooms and four large rooms, including a master bedroom that we quickly headed for.
"i call this room" jack sat down on the white sheets of the king-sized bed and i raised my brow at him. "you have the option of three other rooms".
i dropped my lip at him, "but i want to sleep with you" i said and climbed onto him, so my legs were on either side of his lap.
"oh, you want to sleep with me?" he smirked, hugging his arms around my waist and running his tongue over his lips.
"yes, next to you, in your arms".
"okay, if you must" he sighed a loud and i lightly hit his chest.
i took a small breath and looked at the large room around us, "so, this is where we're gonna stay".
he gently rubbed my sides, "yeah, how do you feel about that?".
"amazing".
"you sure?" he inquired and i lifted his chin to settle a kiss against his soft lips.
"of course" i said, then began to climb off him. "alright, i'm gonna go try out this hair dye".
i started walking out of the room to go back downstairs to our bags.
"need any help?" jack questioned, following behind me.
"no, i'm good".
"okay, i'll be in the kitchen checking if there's anything we can eat for dinner" he jogged away and i picked up the brunette hair dye, before rushing back upstairs to the bathroom.
after some time, i came downstairs to the attractive smell of food flowing out of the kitchen. i walked in to see jack moving from the counter to the stove as he focused deeply on his cooking.
"wow, the kitchen had all of this?" i asked, walking closer to see what he had made as he concentrated on stirring the pasta in the pot.
"yeah, you wouldn't believe how stocked up it is in here" jack replied, before finally facing me and doing a double take at my now-brunette hair.
his mouth slightly gaped open and him, being this speechless instantly made me assume the worst.
"fuck, does it look that bad?" i worriedly questioned.
"no!" he quickly responded. "no, it's the opposite. you look, you look beautiful".
i chuckled, hiding my reddening cheeks, "anyways, i can't believe that you cooked all of this and didn't let me help",
"it wasn't any hassle," he assured then moved over to the chopping board. "i mean, my girlfriend does deserve the best".
i looked up at him, almost stunned that he referred to me as his girlfriend for the first time ever.
he glimpsed at my face and gave me a warm smile - practically smirking at my reaction.
"well, then this girl has the best boyfriend ever" i told, wrapping my arms around his waist from behind. i took in his comforting scent before gently placing a kiss on his back and helping him with the rest of the cooking.
