siena's pov

my daily runs usually consist of going past the basketball court, down to the park, past the benches and finally back to my neighbourhood.

but as i began approaching the courts, my attention diverted to a young man playing basketball alone.

i paused my music and squinted my eyes, as i started to recognise that it was jack.

i haven't spoken to him ever since that day where he overreacted about derek.

he was supposed to come to my house and help my dad yesterday, but for some reason, he never showed up.

i mean even though i'm still quite angry at him, he shouldn't be so childish and let that effect him working for my dad.

after watching jack shoot a few hoops in his loose muscle tee and sweaty hair. i was about to continue on my run, until i realised that maybe even i overreacted the other day.

i don't know, i guess in some way, you could say it was nice that he cared.

i came onto the court, walking closer towards him whilst he dribbled the ball and blankly glanced at me.

"hey" i said, though his attention looked more focused on throwing the ball into the basket. "what are you doing here?".

"this neighbourhood has a better court than mine, but i thought you didn't want to hear my bullshit any ways?".

i folded my arms across my chest, "i don't, but that doesn't mean that you don't have to come and work for my dad".

he scoffed at my words, "you really think that i didn't come yesterday because of the argument that we had?".

oh.

"then what was it?" i asked, interrupting him from throwing the ball. he paused, looking down at the object in his hands then shook away his thoughts.

"don't worry about it" he mumbled and i furrowed my eyebrows.

"okay, i won't...for now" i told, settling my things down and grabbing the ball off jack. "if i win, you have to tell me".

"that's not going to happen" he sniggered as he reached his hand out for the ball back.

i raised my brow at him, bouncing the ball in front of me until he finally let out a small chuckle, "okay. deal" he agreed.

i dribbled the ball one last time, then easily threw it and scored a basket. i gave jack a smug look and his shock at my goal suddenly switched into shrugging his shoulders.

"beginner's luck" he suggested.

"who said i was a beginner?" i questioned, instantly blocking him again and shooting once more. "does beginner's luck count for two scores or?".

i snickered at jack's loss, but he straightened up and stretched out his upper body. soon enough, he finally managed to get the ball off me and threw it into the hoop from an impressively far distance.

"now that's how you shoot a hoop" he spoke through an egotistical smile, causing me to heavily roll my eyes.

i immediately knew that i needed to do something better than shooting from a far distance, so i dodged the ball off him and faced away from the basket.

after getting my aim right, i threw the ball behind me and eventually heard it land through the basket.

"actually, i think that's how you do it" i mockingly pouted at the embarrassed look on his face.

jack cracked his knuckles, then licked his lips, "alright fine, if that's how you want to play it".

out of nowhere, he tackled the ball out of my hands and scored a basket not once, but twice.

he instantly threw his hands up in the air with pride, "three points to me!" jack boastfully announced.

"and it's three to me too, genius" i reminded him. "but whoever scores this last basket wins".

without hesitation, jack instantly tried to block me from reaching the basket, but i smartly swerved around him and was about to release from the ball until his large arms grabbed onto my waist.

"jack, what the fuck?! put me down!" i squealed, whilst he spun me around and i could feel his chest vibrating during his laughter. "you're only doing this because you know i would win!".

"no, i'm doing this to save you from any shame when i win" he lied and i continued to squirm in his tight hold.

"jack! seriously!" i spoke, trying to stay as stern as possible.

seconds after, jack finally listened - he relaxed his laughter and thankfully stopped spinning us around.

"okay, okay, fine" he gave in and settled me down with his arms still clutched onto my waist.

i began panting slightly because fighting off his strength took out more energy from me than i expected.

"you're such an idiot" i insulted, as jack's breath fanned against the back of my neck.

"and you're stuck up" he responded using his infamous and one and only comeback.

i helplessly laughed at him and leant my head back on his shoulder, barely taking notice of the fact that his arms were still around my waist.

jack's hands gently moved an inch against my skin as his warm breath continued to wave over my ear.

i turned my head slightly, side-viewing his lips then his lowering eyes, before slowly facing him directly.

he moistened his pink lips and they soon became the only thing that i could focus on. he began to bring his head a little closer, then settled his hand on my cheek.

i instinctually held my breath and his lips unexpectedly planted a kiss on the corner of my mouth instead.

what?

when he pulled away, i subtly exhaled and licked my lips, "what was that?" i quietly asked.

"is someone disappointed?" jack's mouth curved into a smirk.

i folded my arms and took this as an advantage, "no, because kyle and derek probably kiss better than you".

jack immediately creased his eyebrows, "that's not funny, and you haven't even kissed derek".

"but i would have if you didn't go all psycho on us" i told him, going to pick up my phone and headphones.

"are we really going back to this?".

"well, you still haven't given me a valid reason as to why you lashed out".

"fine" jack picked up his basketball and put it in his duffel bag. "i'll tell you over some froyo".

"wow, i never took you for a frozen yogurt kind of guy, gilinsky" i mentioned, raising my eyebrow.

"well, there's a lot you don't know about me" jack said as we began walking off of the basketball court.

and he wasn't lying. there is a lot that i don't know about jack - i pretty much know his name, age, workplace, father's name and that's it.

whereas the list goes on for the amount of things that he knows about me and half of time, that's not even intentional.
