Chapter 3 - Training and Titans

Sam was once again in the training room, fighting against the punching bag.

"Back again?" Dick walked in with his arms crossed.

"Mhm." Sam nodded, paying him little attention.

"Sam, this isn't healthy."

"Eh, I'll be fine." Sam shrugged.

"It's not up for debate, Samuel."

"Look, I'm nearly done." Sam shook his head,"I've trained for longer before."

"What's the longest you've trained?" Dick raised a brow.

"Six hours, I had a lot of time on my hands.' Sam turned to him.

"And how long have you trained today?"

"Eh, I lost count." Sam turned back to the bag.

"Right, enough." Dick held the bag.

"What?"

"No more today."

"Why not?"

"Because I'm your brother and I say so, you're pushing yourself too hard."

"Am not, I'm fine." Sam crossed his arms.

"Don't argue with me."

"I will, I'm fine." Sam told him.

"How long did you sleep for?" He raised a brow.

"I don't count."

"Should I ask Anya? Hm?"

"Look, Dick, I need to train."

"For what? Am I being too hard on you for training?" He sighed.

"No, it's... I'm not good enough, its not your fault." Sam shook his head.

Dick looked at Sam before he sat down, patting beside him,"Come here."

Sam gave him a confused look before sitting next to his brother.

"How could you say that? That you're not good enough?"

"Because that's what he told me."

"Bruce?"

"Bruce."

"Sam... He used to tell me that all of the time." He sighed,"I hated the way it made me feel, but I can't have you feeling like it... You are an amazing young man."

"But I'm not." Sam leaned against him.

"Don't talk like that." He ruffled his hair.

"Let's face it, Dick. You and Jason are better, that's why you became Robins."

"You don't need to be Robin to be good." He assured him.

Sam sighed,"You're... You're right. You're always right."

"I know I am, but it's because I've went through it." Dick rubbed his brother's back.

Sam leaned against Dick,"I don't have to go back... Right?"

"Not if you don't want to."

"I never want to."

"Because I'm just the best brother out there?"

"Of course." Sam chuckled

"I might have an idea of what your hero name could be." Dick nodded.

"Really?"

"Well you're like a cat, cats chase birds. So pick a cat-like name." He thought,"Not CatLad."

"Aw, why not?" Sam poked his side.

"I'll disown you." Dick smiled, jokingly.

Sam gasped dramatically,"How could you?"

Dick laughed,"Okay, go get breakfast."

"I'm going." Sam got up, heading toward the kitchen.

When he got to the kitchen, he saw Rose and Jason talking, laughing. Meanwhile Anya was staring at them from the counter.

"Well ladies, what did I miss?" Sam stretched.

"Have you been training again?" Rose asked.

"Yeah, but Dick told me to come get breakfast." He shrugged

"You need to shower." Rose blinked,"I can smell you from here."

"Shut up, Rose." Anya sighed.

"Eh, at least she's honest." Sam sighed,"Anything up with you, Jason?"

"I was trying to have a conversation before you ruined it." Jason shrugged.

"A conversation? With two lovely ladies?" Sam looked between the girls,"Jason, this isn't like you."

"I'm having a conversation with just Rose, who- Oh, hi Anya." Jason hummed.

"Hi Jay." Anya turned away, going into a cupboard.

"So observant." Sam hummed, walking past him.

That's when Sam felt a slap on the back of his head.

"Ey!" Sam held his head.

"What have I told you about training?" Anya crossed her arms.

"I stopped, didn't I?"

"Only cause Dick told you to." She pointed.

"I was gonna stop soon anyway." He sighed.

"Liar." Anya smiled.

"This time I was."

"Mhm." She nodded,"Want food?"

"That depends, what is there?" Sam asked.

"Food." Anya answered, opening the fridge.

"What kind of food. Smartass." Sam nudged her.

"Uh... We got pasta... Or leftover cauliflower pizza that your brother made."

"I'll take the pasta, I know my brother can't cook."

"Even I can cook better than him." Anya grabbed the pasta.

"I don't doubt it. Who the hell makes cauliflower pizza?" Sam groaned.

"Obviously Dick didn't do good in cooking lessons." Anya grabbed some pasta.

"Cauliflower pizza..." Sam shook his head.

"What do you want with your pasta?"

"Cheese."

Anya clapped,"I like your thinking."

"Cheese works with everything." Sam nodded.

"Great minds think alike." Anya grabbed the cheese.

Sam happily took the cheese.

"You are now the cheese master, use it wisely." Anya hummed.

"I will." Sam nodded to her.

"But you have to promise me something."

"Hm?"

"You give me as much cheese as I like." Anya smiled.

"Sure, cheese for you." Sam smiled back.

"All the cheese!" Anya jumped.

Sam chuckled, his smile wide as he looked at Anya.

"Okay, where do they keep the god damn pots?" Anya went info the cupboard.

"Hm, somewhere."

"Got them." Anya pulled them out,"Wanna go ask if anyone else wants pasta?"

"Sure." Sam jogged off to find Gar and Rachel.

When he found them, they were in the games room, Gar playing Mario kart.

"Oh, Gar~ We're making pasta." Sam hummed.

Gar sat up,"Is it green?"

"I mean, I could make it green if you want." Sam shrugged.

"Green pasta." Rachel shivered.

"It's normal pasta, relax."

"Gar, you're so weird." Rachel chuckled.

"He is, isn't he?" Sam grinned.

"Shut up, kitty." Gar threw a pillow at him.

"Says you, Tiger boy." Sam caught it.

"It's on." Gar leaped for him.

"I love hugs." Sam held his arms out.

"I'm not hugging you!" Gar tackled him.

"Hm, that's what it looks like." Sam landed on the ground.

"You think I'm always giving you hugs."

"Because you're very hugable." Sam teased.

"Shut up." Gar punched his arm.

"Ow." Sam pouted, his arms were already sore from training.

"Sorry kitty."

"Had your fun?" Rachel chuckled, standing in the doorway.

"I don't know, have we?" Sam raised a brow.

"Nah, I think we need to take our relationship to the next level." Gar nodded.

Sam gasped,"You don't mean.."

"I do." Gar leaned in with a smirk.

"Do it in private!' Rachel walked off.

Sam burst out laughing, flopping backwards.

"Oh I don't know, I would be a cute groom."

"I know you would, too cute for Rachel." Sam patted his head,"She can't handle us."

"No one can." Gar hummed.

Sam smirked and pecked Gar's cheek,"Come on, it's pasta time."

"Pasta!" Gar ran off quickly.

Sam chuckled and got up, hurrying after him.

"Finally, God. Pasta's done." Anya plated up the food.

"Thank you." Sam hummed.

"Sam, remember our promise." Anya pointed.

"Of course, the cheese."

"The cheese~" Anya handed her his plate.

"The cheese-"

'We get it, you like cheese." Jason sighed.

"Well you've lost cheese privileges." Anya muttered.

Sam rolled his eyes and handed Anya some cheese.

"Thanks." Anya smiled, putting it on her plate,"Jason... Do you want some?"

"Nah, I'm not a cheese guy. That's those two." Jason pointed at Sam and Gar.

"Cheese is good." Anya shrugged and plated the food.

"Very good." Sam agreed.

Once everyone had ate, they were sitting in the living room when they heard the lift ding.

"Ooh, do we have guests?" Sam looked up.

"Who would come here?" Rose rolled her eyes.

"I think I have an idea.' Gar smiled.

That's when a male and two females came out the lift, looking around.

"I'm glad to see you." Dick nodded.

"Dick, who are they?" Sam asked quietly, they did look familiar.

"You don't recognise them?" Dick blinked.

"Hey son." Hank waved.

"Hey dad- Wait-" Sam paused.

"Still got you." Hank laughed.

"It's not funny!" Sam crossed his arms.

"Is too." Hank hummed.

"You don't even recognise me?" Donna raised a brow.

Sam squinted before he ran over and hugged her.

"Hey Sammy." Donna smiled and hugged him.

"Donna, I missed you!"

"Holy shit, you've gotten big."

"That's what happens when you don't come to visit."

"You can blame my mom." She patted his back.

Sam didn't let her go, he'd missed these guys.

"And you've gotten stronger."

"Mhm, I've been training."

"Too much it seems."

Sam gasped and let go,"I have not."

"I can feel it in you." Donna chuckled.

"Well, I see you've got two new additions.." Hank nodded to the two girls.

"Yep, that's Anya and that's Rose." Dick pointed to the girls.

"Hi." Anya gave a small smile.

"Yeah, hi." Rose sighed.

"Where's Kory?" Rachel spoke up.

"Uh... She kinda disappeared on me." Donna sighed.

"Disappeared?" Dick raised a brow.

"I can't get ahold of her."

"Huh... That's weird." Dick sighed.

"Who's Kory?" Anya asked.

"She's a friend of ours." Gar told her.

"Oh." She nodded slowly.

"I don't know her either." Sam told her.

"Well, I'm going this way." Anya hummed and left the room.

"I'll stay, I wanna catch up with you guys."

"Good, I haven't spoken to you in ages." Donna rubbed his arm.

"I missed you." Sam smiled as the other younger Titans filtered out of the room.

"I missed you too." She chuckled.

Sam smiled and sat on a counter,"How have things been?"

"Well... I've been living in New York." Donna shrugged.

"Ooh, that's fun. What about you two?"

"We have a ranch." Dawn smiled.

"Had." Hank nudged her.

"Had?" Sam raised a brow.

"Dr Light... He blew it up... And killed a boy who we were helping." Dawn sighed.

"Oh... I'm sorry."

"It's the past kid." Hank patted his back.

"Well, do any of you guys need my help? At all?" Sam asked.

"I'm gonna talk to them for a bit, alright?" Dick nodded.

"Aw, alright." Sam sighed, hopping off the counter.

"Go... Have fun." He put his thumb up.

"Yep, I'll... Have fun." Sam nodded slowly.

"With people your age."

Sam rolled his eyes as he skipped off,"Oh, Gar~"

"Boyfriend!" Gar shouted from afar.

*********************************

Sam was walking along the halls, about to go train, when he heard a soft tune coming from the music room. He'd never really been in there but now he was curious and decided to peak inside.

That's when he saw a redhead sitting at the piano, playing the keys.

"Anya?"

"Hm? Hey Samson." Anya stopped, turning to him.

"What is it with people not calling me by my name, huh?" Sam sighed.

"Nicknames." She hummed.

"But Samson?"

"Well, what would you give me?" She tilted her head.

"Hm.' Sam hummed, studying her face,"Annie."

Anya blinked,"Is that- Is it because I'm ginger?"

"What- No, it's because your name is Anya."

"Are you calling me an orphan?" She gasped.

"I mean, it would be hypocritical if I did." Sam crossed his arms.

Anya shut her mouth,"I'm sorry- I shouldn't have.."

"It's fine." Sam sighed.

Anya hesitated before she moved up on the stool,"You wanna watch? I'll play a song as a sorry."

Sam nodded and sat beside her on the stool.

"Pick a song." She handed him her book.

"Hm.." Sam flipped through the pages.

"Just not that, I haven't learned it." She hummed.

"I see, what about this one?"

Anya nodded and took it, putting it on the stand before she began to play. Sam listened closely, watching as her fingers glided across the keys.

After a few minutes, Anya stopped playing and looked at him,"Is that a good apology?"

Sam had gotten lost in the music, quickly snapping back to the now,"Oh- Yes."

"We both got our things, don't we? You love training... I love this."

"Yeah... Could you teach me?"

"You wanna learn?" Anya smiled.

Sam nodded,"It looks fun."

"I can teach you- Of course I can. Pick an easy song."

"Uh.."

"How about this one?" She pointed.

"Yeah, that one. Sam nodded.

Anya slowly took his hand and placed them on the keys,"I'm just gonna push your fingers down to the song, okay?"

"Uh huh." Sam nodded slowly.

"Ready...And." Anya began pushing his fingers on the keys, playing the song.

Sam watched Anya as she helped him play, although he was trying to watch the piano.

Anya looked over at Sam, giving him a warm smile,"You got it."

"I got it." He grinned.

"Try it yourself."

"Alright." Sam looked down at the keys and slowly but surely began to play.

"There you go." Anya hummed.

"I'm just talented." Sam smirked.

"Yeah, yeah. Keep to the stuff you know, Sunshine." Anya nudged him.

"Ooh, that's a new one." Sam hummed.

"You like it?" She chuckled.

"Hm... Yes." Sam smiled.

"Sunny Sammy." Anya played a little tune.

"That's me." Sam hummed.

"How do you feel?"

"Pretty good, but I'm gonna get a drink."

"Alcoholic?"

"Definitely not, don't drink that stuff." Sam shook his head.

"No? Not even a little?" Anya gasped.

"Not even a little."

"I have to get you to try some." Anya clapped.

"Nope." Sam began to walk off.

"Sam!" Anya got up.

"No alcohol today." Sam pointed.

"Can I have some?"

"No!"

"Oh no... My legs, they're turning to the kitchen." Anya turned.

"Anya, no! It's too early for alcohol."

"It's five o'clock somewhere."

"But not here." Sam crossed his arms.

"So..What you're saying is I can drink when it's five o'clock." Anya jumped, kissing his cheek before she ran off,"Thanks Sam!"

"Wh- No! I-" Sam huffed.

*********************************

"I think we should play a game." Gar nodded to Sam.

"What kind of game?" He raised a brow.

"Truth or dare."

"Ooh, yes."

"Okay, you go first." Gar pointed.

"Truth or dare."

"Uh... Truth."

"Do you love anyone?" Sam asked.

"Yeah obviously, my husband right here." Gar nudged him.

"That was the answer I wanted." Sam smirked.

"Truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"Hm... Do you love anyone?"

"Is that even a question?" Sam leaned closer.

"You're such a romantic." Gar laughed.

"Oh, I know." Sam patted his head,"Now, truth or dare."

"Dare."

"Go eat the cauliflower pizza Dick made."

Gar just blinked at Sam,"You are a horrible man, horrible.'

"Love you too." Sam hummed.

"Horrible!" Gar got up.

"Gar, I'm sorry." Sam laughed.

"This might have cost us a relationship, Sam." Gar shook his head.

"Just give me something really bad so we're even." Sam shrugged.

"Go... I want you to hug your brother." Gar smirked,"Not the one you like."

Sam gasped dramatically and got up,"Fine."

"Now come on." He ran out the room.

Sam sighed and slowly walked out, looking for Jason. When he did find him, he was in his room with Rose.

"Jason? Can you come here for a minute?" Sam asked.

"I'm uh... Busy."

"It'll be quick."

Jason walked out to his door and sighed,"What?"

Sam bit his cheek and quickly hugged him.

"What the- Sam have you taken drugs?"

Sam let go and turned,"This was a dare, this meant nothing. It never happened."

"Yeah alright." Jason moved back.

Sam quickly walked off,"Husband, I did it!"

"That's my boy!" Gar coughed.

Sam hugged onto Gar,"I regret everything!"

"So do I." He stuck out his tongue.

Sam sighed,"He asked if I was ok drugs."

"You probably are."

"Eh, maybe."

"Come on, we got more-" Gar began to talk before all the lights shut off.

"And... That's not good." Sam sighed,"It seems somebody is up to something."

"It wasn't me!" Anya shouted from the music room.

"I think I know who's behind this." Sam shook his head.
