Epilogue

It had been three months since Lenerick's defeat. Three months since the compound's destruction. Three months since the Avengers' near defeat. Three long months.

It was supposed to be a good thing, the lack of danger. And it was. At least for a little while. They were all glad of the little break. Sure, they had gone on a few missions, but nothing very dangerous or important. And Ira was glad too. At first.

Ira wanted to feel safe. She wanted to feel happy that it was all over. But she felt that something was going to happen. Something bad. She tried to purge the fears from her mind, but try as she might, inkling doubts crept into her head, unfurling their poisonous tendrils in her mind, releasing their noxious black tar through her thoughts. They plagued her while she slept, and while she was awake. The danger's not past, they hissed. It's just begun. She tried to ignore it, focusing on her missions and her teammates. But the toxic thoughts followed her.

It was these doubts that she thought of as she walked through the halls of the compound, her blue eyes, glazed and unfocused, staring blankly ahead. Her fingertip trailed lightly over the cream-colored walls along the hallway, and her bare feet padded gently on the carpet below. Removing her finger from the wall, her fingers clutched at the folded cuffs of the sleeves of the white shirt she wore.

Ira passed the living room, hearing the voices of her team echo through the room. But she didn't stop. She continued through the halls, passing the training room, then the bedrooms. Still not stopping. As she passed his room, Pietro looked up at her from the bed, confusion briefly glancing across his face, but she didn't see.

She wasn't sure where exactly she was going, and it was only when she reached the glass door of the balcony did she realize where her feet had brought her. She slid open the door before stepping outside. A cool wind whipped across her face, sending strands of blonde hair flying out of the braid she had so carefully constructed. Her feet felt the cool wood of the floor, still slightly damp from the rain that lingered in the air. She fingered the pendant that rested upon her neck, tracing the smooth outlines of the stars engraved into the dark purple stone.

Dark clouds blanketed the sky, and distant rumbles of thunder could be heard. Ira placed her hands on the cool metal railing, leaning forward slightly and staring out over the expansive forest in front of her. The green trees meshed with the sky to create a dark expanse of green and gray. Wind whistled through the branches, creating a rattling sound that echoed through the air.

She moved her fingers absently against the metal rail, sending swirls of midnight blue energy swirling through the crisp air, following the breeze that danced through the sky. Behind her, she heard the door slide open along its track, and she turned her head slightly to see Pietro standing behind her.

He said nothing at first, simply walking to stand next to her at the railing. He turned to look at her, the wind whipping strands of silky platinum hair against his forehead. "You've been distant lately," Pietro began gently. "Are you okay?"

She turned to face him, noticing genuine concern in his azure eyes. "I'm... not sure," she admitted. "I thought I was. At first, after the battle. But now," she shrugged helplessly. "I don't know. It feels like something's not right. Like something bad is going to happen."

"Like something's missing?" Pietro supplied, and she nodded.

"I feel like something's going to happen. That something's supposed to happen. But I don't know what." Ira expressed.

"Something always is going to happen," Pietro tried, "There will probably never be a point where we're not in danger."

"Is this supposed to be helping?" Ira asked, and he chuckled, looking down at his hands as he struggled to find the right words before looking back at her.

"What I mean is that that feeling is normal. I'm sure it'll go away after a little bit. Just... relax. Take a break," he offered. "Try not to think about it."

"I try that, but it doesn't work," she told him. "I know that something big is going to happen. It's like someone's trying to warn me."  She stared over the peaceful scenery in front of her, thoughts focused on the omen that plagued her thoughts.

What if it was like the dream? The one that had tormented her thoughts right before disaster struck. Was this another sign? Or was it simply just a side effect of the distress she had experienced from the battle? She wasn't sure, and the uncertainty frustrated her to no end.

A gentle hand placed on her arm broke through the chain of destructive thoughts, and she turned to face Pietro. "We'll be okay," he told her. "You have the team, you have Wanda, and you have me. And we won't let anything happen to you, dragoste," he swore.

Ira softly. "And I won't let anything happen to you, either," she promised, staring up at him.

Her eyes traced over his features; his silky blonde hair, almost white, his bright blue eyes that held her gaze so lovingly. She loved him more than anything, and she knew that if it came down to it, she would sacrifice herself for him. She couldn't bear to lose him.

He wrapped his arms around her, and pulled her close to him, pressing her gently against his chest. She found comfort and solace in his embrace, and she closed her eyes to just be. Just forget about all the dangers and the warnings and the trouble, and just be in that movement with the love of her life.

She wished that it could be that perfect forever. That she could just stay with Pietro and Wanda and the others and not have to worry about battles or missions or danger. But life had other plans.

Ira moved slightly, and Pietro released his grip, allowing her to step back, turning again towards the view from the balcony. The wind brushed across her face, shaking through the trees and bringing the sweet smell of coming rain. Clouds layered the sky, heavy with water. There was a tension in the air, as if the earth was holding its breath.

There was something coming, that much she was sure of. Danger or trouble, she wasn't sure. But she knew that it would change everything.

A storm loomed over the horizon, and trouble would soon come calling again.

A/N:

We did it.

Run to You is officially finished. When I started writing this book, I was really insecure about my writing (I honestly still am), but knowing that there are at least a handful of people who hopefully enjoyed this makes it all better.

There are a few things I want to go over for the editing of this book:

-The book will remain up while the chapters are in progress.
-All chapters will stay up until I'm completely finished tweaking everything. Edited chapters will be marked (I.e Chapter Three Edited)
-Major changes will be going through the story, including chapters, possibly characters, and even the entire plot.
-Updates will be sporadic, but I'm planning on at least once a week.
-If you don't want to reread the edited chapters, just don't. But if you want to, that's great. I'm hoping that it will be way better, but we'll see.
-There is a series planned out for this, but I'm going to be taking a break to write some of my other stories, so don't expect it very soon.

Again, thank you so much to everyone who has stuck by me through this. This wouldn't be possible without you guys. It's so incredible that I finished this, I'm just at a loss for words.

I love you three thousand,

E l i z a b e t h
