CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR---▹
Iskra turned around slowly, the weight of her gun in her hand, only to be met with the sights of a woman, she couldn't have been more than a year or two older than Iskra, "You're not Natasha," the woman with the accent spoke, Iskra finally placed the fact that it had to be an Australian accent. "Nope, not me." Iskra said, keeping her gun raised, "Do you mind telling me who you are?"
"None of your damn business, who are you?" August snapped, towards the redhead who looked all too much like Natasha from the back, "I asked you first." Iskra said, August rolled her eyes, finding the girl to be childish, "What are you doing here?" August asked, "Saving my uncle, what are you doing here?" Iskra replied dryly, at the sound of the fighting going on behind them, they both turned to look over, but when Iskra went to look back, the woman had slipped back into the shadows, Clint was standing over Maya, sword pointed at her throat as he pulled back his hood and mask in one motion.
Emotion flickered across Maya's face, "I wanted you to see my face." he spoke attempting to sign the words, "So I can watch you kill me?" Clint shook his head, "No. But if you, or anyone, comes after me or my family. It'll be the last thing you do. You have my word." he lowered his sword, "You and I, we're the same." Clint said, Maya, shook her head, "No, you are a monster."
"We're weapons." he paused, "But when you're filled with rage, it makes you blind." she stared at him, "It could be used, could be manipulated. Trust me, I know." he paused, "I was there that night, tipped off by....informant, works for your boss," Clint spoke, realization flickered in her eyes, "Yes, your boss." he confirmed, "You're lying."
"You're boss, wanted your father dead. Now he's using you-" he was cut off when Maya kicked him causing him to stab the blade through the car, and her to take the opportunity to lift the blade over her head, about to slam it down when an arrow shot away the blade. Maya's head snapped in the direction the arrow came from, and Clint took that moment to escape.
Clint ran down the alleyway holding his arm, "I bet you're wondering how I found you." Kate said, running up beside Clint, "You tracked my phone again, didn't you?" he asked, "You know she did, she also saved your ass." Iskra said joining the two of them, Clint rolled his eyes at her.
"So this rescue mission, you got an escape plan?" He asked, the trio walked up to the car, "Hey, are you Tabitha?" the driver asked, "Yes." Kate replied, "Alright, Hop on in." Iskra nodded, to the car when Clint looked at her.
Most of the car ride was spent in silence, "Well, there's uh...one more thing, we should worry about." Kate began, Iskra nodded already knowing she was referring to Yelena, "Yeah, what's that." Clint asked, "uh.. do you remember that girl from last night, the one in the mask?" Clint nodded, "Um, I spoke to her." Kate said, he looked over, "And?" he replied, "She said she's Natasha's sister, which uh, Iskra notified me, Is-" she said, "Yelena?" he mumbled, "Yeah." Iskra and Kate both replied, "Okay." he said.
The sun was beginning to rise as the car pulled up to a stop, Clint got out of the car first supporting his shoulder, and Kate assisted Iskra in getting out of the car, noticing how much pain she was in. "You ok?" Kate asked as Iskra leaned on her, "Yeah." she whispered, Iskra, leaned on Kate for support as they made their way down the sidewalk, Clint looked over at Iskra, "Are you ok, Iz?" he asked, she just kind of shrugged, "I will be."
Iskra's phone rang out and seeing Mom flash across the screen her heart dropped, "Holy hell, I'm in so much trouble." she muttered, answering the phone, "Hello?" she spoke, "Iskra Maren Romanoff-Hill." Maria's voice spoke into the phone, "Hi, Mom." she greeted, "What were you thinking? You could've gotten yourself, killed, Iskra that damn stab wound better not be infected!" Maria exclaimed, "It won't be...I promise, she said, glancing down. "Look, Mom, I uhh...I've got to go. Love you!" Iskra said before hanging up the phone quickly.
----
Soon enough Iskra lowered herself onto the bed in the guest room of the LARPER's apartment, the door creaked open revealing Kate, "Hey, I got the first aid kit." the brunette said, laying down beside Iskra. "We both know you can't properly clean wounds for anything," Iskra said turning her head to face Kate, and Kate laughed a little, "Well, if anything, blame it on yourself, you're the one who taught me," Kate joked, but soon enough their laughter bubbled down to nothing, Iskra studied Kate's eyes, before briefly flickering her gaze down to the brunette's lips, their faces were a lot closer together then Iskra had originally thought.
Kate stared right back at Iskra, a look of awe on her face, Iskra's mind was moving a hundred miles an hour, but at the same time felt empty, the only thing she could think of was the girl whose face was inches away from her's.
Kate sucked in a breath, as they both leaned in slightly, Kate's soft lips brushed against Iskra's slightly chapped ones, pulling apart for a brief moment before pressing back together. It was a soft gentle kiss, both Kate and Iskra's eyes were closed, only fluttering open as they pulled away from one another, their foreheads still touching "Wow," Kate breathed, a smile spread across Iskra's face. "You're damn right." Iskra whispered, letting out a breathy laugh.
God, Iskra wished they could just run.
Darling let's run. Run from it all.
-------
Yelena walked down the sidewalk of New York, when she had been talking to Kate, the brunette had made a good point, she was doing some research on her employer. Specifically trailing the woman with the brown bob.
Eleanor Bishop turned, but Yelena had already busied herself with her phone to blend in with the rest of the city crowd. Eleanor turned back around and Yelena looked up at the sky, she really didn't want pulll apart what was left of the Bishop girl's family.
Yelena knew that Kate deserved to know the kind of person Eleanor Bishop really was. She looked down at her phone typing in Kate Bishop's number into her phone...it really was a problem that Yelena didn't know who her employer really was.
----
"That burns like bitch, God." Iskra groaned as Kate tried to clean the redhead's wound with the supplies from the first aid kit. "I'm sorry." Kate said, blowing on the wound gently, "On the bright side it's not looking any worse then before." Kate said, "Well it still hurts."
"Can't you just heal it with your magic or whatever?" Kate asked, and Iskra laughed, "God, I wish. Sadly that's not how this works, when I get injured or whatever, I barely have enough energy to do any sort of magic, and healing takes the most out of me." she replied, "Oh, that makes sense." Iskra smiled at Kate, "What? Kate asked looking down away from Iskra's gaze, "You're just so beautiful." Iskra said, and Kate blushed a little, Iskra gasped, "Oh. My. God." she passed, "Are you blushing pretty eyes?" Iskra, "What? No...no I do not. I do not blush." Kate said.
"mhm, whatever you say pretty eyes." Iskra smirked, and Kate wacked her arm, there was a knock on the door, "Come in." Iskra called to the door, Clint peaked his head in, "Our LARPER friend made breakfast." he noted, "We'll be right there." Iskra said.
Clint found it really nice he hadn't seen Iskra smile like this since Natasha died, he remembered meeting Iskra for the first time, Natasha had brought in this firey little six year old and told Fury off, when the man tried to talk her into not adopting Iskra.
He had spent that entire day with her, and he knew then that she was going to do great things, and be the one person no one else could be.
The four of them sat down to eat at the table, "You made it look so easy and cool!" Kate exclaimed giving up on trying to make Pizza dog dance. Iskra smiled at her taking her hand under the table. "Cool?" Clint asked, "Yes, grills is cool, he can LARP, he can put out fires." Kate said and he shrugged off the compliment.
Kate's smile fell as she read her texts
UKNOWN:
Kate Bishop, I found out who hired me.
Eleanor Bishop.
Thought you deserved to know.
"Kate?" Clint asked, "look at this, who's that with my mom?" Iskra squeezed Kate's hand in comfort, brows furrowed in worry.
"Well, that's the guy I've been worried about this whole time."
