I
I watched from the safety of my mother's car as she unloaded the boxes from the trunk, and headed towards — "our new home" — as she likes to put it. She saw moving to a new state far from our old one as a nice way to "reinvent" ourselves and "make a new living" here. I however thought otherwise.
I thought that this was one of the stupidest things that we could do.
My mother thought us moving all the way over here would help put aside my past in hopes of me getting better. Thinking that removing me from a place that started it all will help me move forward.
But boy was she wrong. No amount of moving was going to make things any better.
"Janice, come and see inside of our new home!" my mother exclaimed from the doorway.
I shook my head, coming out of my train of thought as I opened the passenger door. I made my way towards the inside of the house, making sure to look around the exterior of it.
Well, it doesn't look bad.
There were still boxes that needed to be unpacked and furniture that needed to be bought. My eyes shifted towards the box that held all of my belongings.
"Oh don't worry sweetie, I'll take th-"
"Mom. It's fine, I got it" I said with a slight chuckle, cutting her off.
That was the thing about my mother that bothered me a lot. Ever since the accident, she started treating me like I am this fragile little thing that couldn't handle not even the simplest of tasks.
I picked up my box and started heading up the wooden stairs. There were 3 rooms; two on the right side, one on the left. I decided to pick the one on the left side, wanting my own privacy.
I opened the door and was greeted by a lavender colored room. There was already a desk, nightstand, and queen size bed that my mother had the movers put in. I set the box aside and quickly put my phone to charge, setting it on the nightstand.
I sighed, exhaustion enveloping me as I laid down on my bed. I felt my eyes grow heavy. I eventually succumbed to my body's wishes, and felt myself drift off to sleep.

I watched as Uncle Harry was taken away.
I asked Mommy where they were taking him but she just said to a "very bad place for bad people."
I didn't question her any further.
I looked at Mommy as she talked to an officer, her palms covering her tear-stained face.
Why is Mommy crying?
I wrapped the blanket given to me by a cop around my body.
What is going on?
Why are they taking Uncle Harry away?
Is he in trouble?
I was brought out of my trance by a cop waving his hand in my face.
"Janice? Janice?"
"H-Huh yes?" I asked, snapping out of consciousness.
"Can you please tell me what you told Mommy?" a cop asked, taking out a pen from his shirt pocket.
I looked at him quizzically.
"The things that you told your Mommy about what Uncle Harry did?" he asked, as if answering my question.
"Oh!" I said in recognition.
"H-He touched me here, here, and here" I said as I pointed to the places that Uncle Harry had called my "princess parts."
I hear the cop mumble "fucking bastard" under his breath as he proceeded to write some things down on his notepad.
I looked up at the night sky when Mommy appeared in front of me, a look of concern on her face.
"Janice... Sweetie?..."
I woke up with a jolt, sweat covering my entire body. I brought my hand up to my chest as I tried to catch my breath.
"Janice?" my mother said, concern etched on her face.
"Wha-What happened?" I asked, looking around the foreign room.
Where am I??
"I heard you crying and screaming 'no' from downstairs" she said as she brushed the pad of her thumb across my teary eyes.
I slowly nodded my head, realization hitting me.
"Are you okay honey? Was it another one of your nightmares?" she asked as she took a seat next to me on the bed.
"Y-Yeah, don't worry Mom"
"You know he's still locked up right Janice? He can't get to you anymore" my mother said, resting her hand on mine.
I looked down at my hands on my lap as I nodded in understanding.
"Yeah..."
"Alright" she squeezed my hand in reassurance. She stood up and made her way towards my door. I got up, making my way to the box that held my belongings when my mother suddenly turned around.
"By the way, I got a call from your new high school, you're starting next week" she said as she shut the door.
