HYDE PARK GAZETTE
April 1st, 2023.
_

Sixteen years ago, a potential homicide case was ruled as an accident by detectives. The death of Lee Soyoung from 12 Clover Lane shook up the sweet suburb of Camden, in the greater west of Hyde Park. Her death was investigated for months before it was ruled an accident, her death the result of a fall she'd taken. Now, sixteen years on, the case has been reopened.

Riley Hart, lead detective on this case, had a few words to say about the change. "You know, we as detectives are always cycling through old cases and cold cases, especially with a fresh set of eyes, to make sure we've missed nothing. I'm not able to give out information at this time, but we have received significant information to suggest that the death may not have been an accident after all and we, as detectives, must investigate that."

In further news, creators of the hit docuseries Australia's Unsolved, have received permission from detectives and police to film their new episode about this case. It's an exciting time for Camden and Hyde Park, even amidst the chaos.

More to come next week.

[transcript of Felix's audition for Australia's Ubsolved docuseries]

Felix:
Why do I have to audition for this?

Unknown voice #1:
We just need to make sure you can speak in front of a camera. You don't have to be in this, you know, there's other options.

Felix:
I know, but I think they should hear it from me. Not someone pretending to be me.

Unknown voice #2:
But the audience wouldn't know they weren't you.

Felix:
Can we just get on with it?

Unknown voice #1:
Right. Yes. Start the recording please?

A camera clicks on somewhere in the room and we can now see the recording of the audition. Felix sits at a table opposite two unknown men. Felix is fidgeting with the script in front of him, he looks nervous.

Unknown voice #2:
Okay, rolling.
Take it away Felix.

Felix:
My name is Lee Felix and I am the son of Lee Soyoung. I don't believe my mother died accidentally, rather, I believe her death was a homicide.

Unknown voice #2:
Okay good, but you need to put more emotion into it.

Felix:
I am.

Unknown Voice #1:
You're not, you sound numb.

We see Felix fidget some more, he looks to be getting irritated. The unknown men seem not to realise the effect this audition is having on Felix.

Felix:
Would you not be? If your mother died when you were six and it was called an accident when you know different?

Unknown Voice #2:
Exactly. So use that and put it into your audition.

Felix:
No, you know what? No. Either you'll use me, the real person like you should, or you'll use a phony.

Felix slaps his paper down on the table and leaves the room. The unknown men sit stunned. They're not quite sure what just happened.

POLICE INVESTIGATION #1
LEADING DETECTIVE; RILEY HART.
UNNAMED WITNESS.

Detective Hart:
Before we begin I must let you know that our session is being recorded for investigative purposes. So, you said you're a neighbour to the Lee residence, is that right?

Unnamed Witness:
That's correct.

Detective Hart:
So tell me a little about what happened on the night of April 1st, 2007. As best as you remember.

Unnamed Witness:
Well, I was off work sick that day. It wasn't anything too serious, I had food poisoning the night before and still wasn't feeling so great so I called in sick. Of course the husband and the little boy had been out, boy at school and husband at work. The woman was home all day like she usually was. I didn't see anything completely out of the ordinary. The milkman came as usual, and the mailman. I did see the water meter guy take a look at the meter in the front and back gardens, but he didn't go inside. That was really it.

Detective Hart:
Is there anything else you can think of? You might think it's small or insignificant but at this point in our investigation, anything will help us.

Unnamed Witness:
Well I did think the water meter guy was a bit strange. He did check everyone's water, everyone on Clover Lane at least, but I don't remember getting an email about it. Usually they send you an email saying that someone will be 'round to check the waters, but I didn't get one. Unless it was sent to my spam inbox and I never saw it. I didn't mention it because it wasn't like theirs was the only water he checked, but I guess that's just a bit strange.

Detective Hart:
Thank you [REDACTED], we appreciate all the help.
