The Enemy Of My Enemy

It had been three days, ever since Phantom told the heroes about the killers he'd been investigating for the last three years he's thrown himself into his work. The only one that could get Phantom to step away was Robin but it was never for more then an hour or two. Right now the mentors and the team were trying to come up with a plan of attack to take the group down.

Superman spoke, "You said you knew where their hideout is, why not just go right now?"

Phantom looked at the hero, "Yeah, and why not wear blinking Christmas lights and sing jingle bells at the top of our lungs while we're at it. If we go in guns blazing at best someone will get badly injured, worst case scenario we all die and they're still roaming free."

Flash spoke, "We could go in when they're asleep."

"One of them is almost always awake at any given time and there's no way to know if one of them will be out. If they came back they'd know something was up and if they get the jump on us then we're all dead."

Aquaman spoke, "We could sneak in through the windows."

"They lock all the doors and windows, each of them has a key but getting it from any one of them is damn near impossible. Not to mention the fact that Smile Dog would probably be able to smell us and he'd alert the others."

Green Arrow spoke, "Could you at least try to be less negative, why don't you help us think of something?"

Phantom stood up from the table they were sitting at and slammed his hands on the table, "Are you fucking serious? Do you think I haven't tried to come up with something, anything, that could stop them or at least slow them down? I've tried for three fucking years, close to four now and everything I've come up with failed."

"I wouldn't go in there with an army at my back, I'm fine risking my life but I refuse to risk someone else's." The heroes looked stunned and Phantom sat back down and put his head in his hands, "There's too many factors. Based on my last encounter with the Rake I know they're planning something but I don't know what."

Batman spoke, "And how do you know they're planning something?"

Phantom leaned back in his chair, "By the time we heard that something was in that forest in New York, let alone gotten there, the Rake should have been gone. He doesn't hang around in the same forest for that long and not have a body turn up in that time. They planned that, they knew I would show up eventually to investigate because it's what I do."

"The Rake was there to lure me out, even the forest he was in was his way of calling me out and I'm sure they're just getting started."

The heroes glanced at each other and Robin gave Phantom a concerned look, "So what do you think we should do?"

Phantom messed up his hair, "I need to think, I need to figure out what they're up to." Phantom went through anything that could be useful in his head, there had to be a way to figure out what they were planning. He had no idea what they were planning and no one would know what they were up to except the seven and... wait.

Phantom suddenly looked up and quickly walked over to one of his boxes and dug through it as quickly as he could. The heroes looked confused and Phantom tossed papers and files aside before taking a small file out and looking at the first page. There were a few people that might know but there was one person he knew he could get the information out of.

Phantom looked up from the file like a switch had just been flipped in his head, "I've got it, I've fucking got it."

Martian Manhunter spoke, "What do you mean?"

Phantom walked over to the table again and set the file down in front of him, "There are very few people outside Slender man's group that might know what they're planning. Most of them are at least affiliated with Slender man or Zalgo but there is one person that's enemies with them, more specifically Jeff."

Batman looked at the file and the page seemed to be a list of known affiliations, both friends and enemies, of each of the killers. Batman didn't look amused, "This isn't going to work."

Phantom closed the file, "Oh yes it is, you only learned about these guys a few days ago, I've known about them for almost four years. I know how much they hate each other and I know how to get the information we need, trust me on this."

Batman mentally sighed, "You're sure this will work?"

"I'd bet my life on it, which I kind of am at this point."

The other heroes looked confused and Phantom used his powers to put everything back in the box. Kid Flash spoke, "Hold on, what are you going to do?"

Phantom glanced at him, "I'm going to get Jeff's greatest enemy to tell me what Slender's planning."

Aqualad looked confused, "But who is his enemy?"

Phantom just smirked before he left and since the heroes didn't want to leave him alone they quickly followed him. About twenty minutes later they were standing in front of a warehouse and the heroes were catching onto Phantom's plan. Phantom walked in without a second thought and many of the heroes wondered if he'd finally gone insane.

As soon as Phantom walked in they saw a number of men get ready to attack them before a familiar voice could be heard, "Hold on, hold on."

Everyone stopped and the one and only Joker walked out of the shadows along with Harley who looked both confused and annoyed. Joker laughed a little, "Looks like it's a party."

Phantom looked at Joker, "Actually I need information and I know you can tell me what I want to know."

Joker looked amused, "And what would that be?"

"Jeff the Killer."

At the mere mention of the psychotic killer's name Joker's smile fell and he looked pissed, all of Joker's goons ran out of the room and Harley backed away. Joker glared at Phantom, "What about him?"

"I need to know what he's planning and I know you keep tabs on him, we've both been in this game long enough to know that."

Joker's smile was back and it was chilling, "Why would I tell you anything?"

Phantom shrugged, "Well I thought you'd realize it would just benefit you in the long run but I guess you're okay with the rumors, I'll just be on my way."

Phantom turned to leave and Joker looked confused, "What rumors?"

Phantom looked at him, "I thought you of all people would know, people are starting to say Jeff's better then you. They're even going as far as saying he's even more insane, you should see the chat rooms, personally I don't agree but I'm one of the few."

Joker looked pissed how, "That little pest, he could never be as good as me!"

Phantom put his hands up, "I'm not the one you have to convince, people are saying Jeff's planning on taking your place. But like I said I don't agree, your the clown prince of crime, but people think Jeff's planning on stealing the spotlight."

Joker looked like he was going to blow a fuse, "He's just a stuck up little kid, he's got no style and that stupid smile is just laughable."

"That's what I've been saying, you're the original, he's just a copycat with a hoodie and a kitchen knife. I can't believe people actually think he's better but I guess with what's been going on lately, not to mention Jane."

Harley seemed interested in that part, "What do you mean, what's going on with Jane?"

Phantom shrugged, "Word on the street is she's finally picking a side and she's going with Slender. Guess that means she and Jeff are on good terms, they'll probably start working together too, you should see what conversations that started. People are sure they're going to team up and become the next big crime duo, Joker and Harley 2.0 some people say."

"I really don't get it but who knows, left unchecked they might decide to come after you two. Like I said they're only rumors though, they might not be true but I'd hate to see the best crime duo in Gotham get outdone by those second rate killers."

Joker and Harley looked more mad then anyone had ever seen them and the heroes had no idea what just happened. Joker looked at Phantom, "If I tell you what you want to know what's in it for me?"

Phantom smirked, "I can stop Jeff in his tracks before he gets anywhere near you but I need to know what he's planning."

Joker nodded, "Fine." He thought for a minute, "A little over a week ago he came in here asking questions."

Phantom raised an eyebrow, "About?"

Joker's smile was back, "About you, he wanted to know your real name, who you hang out with these days, where you live. Even if I knew all that I wouldn't tell that two bit hack and he got mad, he killed three of my men before leaving. What's so special about you anyway, normally he doesn't care who he kills but he's really got something against you."

Phantom put his hands in his pockets, "Tell me what I want to know and I'll tell you what you want to know."

Joker laughed a little, "You've still got spunk kid."

Harley spoke, "He's so fun mista J, can we keep him?"

Joker looked at her, "Maybe after this business with Jeff is over."

Harley looked happy now and Phantom spoke, "Hate to cut this short but I still need something I can use."

Joker waved him off, "I'm getting there, when Jeff came here he lost this during a fight."

Joker took something out of his pocket and tossed it to Phantom who easily caught it and looked at it. "This is Jeff's phone."

Joker seemed rather pleased with himself, "He didn't know he dropped it, you might as well take it since I can't get it open."

Phantom turned on the phone and examined it, "Looks like Ben's handiwork when it comes to the security on this thing. Might take a bit to crack but odds are there'll be something on here, I can definitely use this."

Joker grinned, "Now tell me why Jeff was looking for you."

Phantom put the phone in his pocket, "He's been looking for me for years, and he isn't the only one. Jeff and his merry band of killing misfits have all been looking for me for a long time and it looks like they're getting serious. I knew it was going to happen one of these days but it was pretty sudden, not even an escalation in activity beforehand."

Joker laughed again, "Like I said, no style, but why would they want you dead?"

Phantom smirked, "I know more about them then they want me to, it's your typical 'no witnesses' deal."

Harley actually frowned a little and Phantom turned to leave, "I'm going to work on figuring out what Jeff is up to."

Harley spoke, "Keep us posted will you?"

Phantom looked at her, "Why?"

Joker spoke, "That wannabe is a real thorn in my side, tell us what's going on and we won't cause any trouble, for the most part."

Phantom shrugged, "Fine then." Phantom motioned for the heroes to leave and they did, Phantom waved goodbye before they were out of sight.

Once they were a bit farther away Batman looked at Phantom, "What was that?"

Phantom raised an eyebrow, "And by that you mean?"

"You just got Joker to tell you exactly what you wanted to know without any sort of fight and it seemed like you two knew each other."

Superman spoke, "And who is Jane?"

Phantom sighed and decided to answer their questions after they got back to the watchtower where it was relatively safe.
