The Beginning of this mess
"Why hello there, young traveler. Would you like some sweets for your journey?" The old, wrinkly witch says as she flashes a toothless grin.
"N-n-no thank you, ma'am, I'm good," I answer, slowly backing away and feeling for the doorknob.
"Don't rush off, sweetie, I made you some dinner," she says, reaching out to me. She strokes my face with her wrinkled hand. She walks further into the house towards her kitchen, beckoning for me. I don't hesitate for a second; I throw open the door and break into run. I run for about five minutes before stopping to catch my breath.
All of the sudden, a cold shiver runs down my spine like a million little ants crawling on my back. Every hair on my body stands on end when I hear a gentle crack from a branch.
I whip around, but no one is there.
Weird, I think as I start to walk towards the highway and out of the woods. Climbing out of the brush, I glance back and see the old woman hobbling towards me.
"Sw-sweetie is that you? I have your dinner ready in the cottage. Come now, Fawn."
I stumble over the barrier separating the highway from the woods in shock. How does she know my name? How did she find me? These thoughts quickly fill my brain, but before I even register them, I break into a run and sprint faster than I've ever run in my life, and I don't stop.
Eventually, after running along the side of the road I see a convenience store and steer towards it so I can find out where the hell I am.
"Excuse me?" I say to the cashier. "Excuse me? Hello?" He has is earbuds in and he's reading a magazine with his feet on the counter.
He looks up and swings his feet down as soon as he sees me. "Hello, miss, how can I help you?" He grinned a greasy yellow smile. He takes out his earbuds and I can faintly hear country playing through them.
"Quick question," I say slowly, intimidated by his "hobo" looks. "What town is this? I'm kinda lost."
"Well that's an odd question. You're in Brunswick, miss. In Cumberland county."
"Brunswick," I mutter to myself. "How the hell did I get in Brunswick?"
"Is that all, miss?" The cashier asked.
"Yes, yes that's it. Thank you and have a nice afternoon," I say, speed-walking out of the store. I look around and guess that I'm downtown, judging by the surrounding buildings.
I need to get out of here; I need to get back to my family. I got myself into this mess and I'm going to get myself out of it.
A/N I did not write this chapter; I'm just continuing it for a friend that doesn't want to. She put a lot of work into it and I recommend you check her work out. She has two accounts: justsomepoetry06 (her main account) and wantsomememes02
Thanks for reading and have a good day/night!
