Chapter 6: "Knives can talk?"
Kyoto's POV
~~
I awoke almost instantly as I heard a gunshot go off. Sweat dripped off my back, and I looked for Clarity almost immediately.
She laid on the ground a few feet away from me, fast asleep. If only I was as oblivious as her, then maybe I'd get a good night's sleep. But no, sleep would not be my friend for the next couple of hours.
I sat up, holding my sword to my chest. The sword cut ever so slightly into me, but at this point, I could care less. I was just...well....scared.
I eyed Clarity's knife warily. It'd moved ever so slightly closer to me. And Clarity wasn't awake, so what was the deal with this blade?
"What are you up to..." I murmured to myself quietly, looking at the blade in concern and wariness.
"Hi, I'm Sarul!" The knife said cheerfully, and Kyoto screamed shrilly. "Didn't know males could scream that high-pitched."
"S-Shut up!" I said indignantly, pointing his sword at the knife. "What kind of demon are you!"
"...Demon?" Sarul responded promptly. "And what kind of demon do you propose I am?"
"Umm.." I mumbled, unsure what to say. "Knives can talk?"
"Of course we can!" Sarul shouted indignantly. "Of course you wouldn't know, petty mortal."
I wasn't sure whether to feel insulted. A knife just showed me down...or did it? Was I hallucinating? I wasn't really sure if I'd ate a poisoned berry.
"Pfft...I'm hallucinating." I mumbled, looking at Sarul. "You aren't I talking knife, and I'm probably asleep or something-"
"Does this feel like a dream?" Sarul pressed against my neck, and I recoiled in pain. That was real, not fake...unless this was a really vivid- "And don't you DARE say this is a dream!"
I stuttered several things, looking terrified. Not to mention that I had several questions.
-How'd the knife...Sarul, get to my neck without anyone holding him?
-Why had Jamie had this kn-Sarul, in his attic?
-How did Clarity get her hands on this thing?
-Why hadn't I tried getting Sarul off me?
Well, the last question already had an answer. Sarul was a lot closer to killing me, and I really didn't want to antagonize him more...Wait..did knives even have genders?
I just kept having more and more questions.
Clarity shifted in her sleep, mumbling nonsense. Sarul seemed to hesitate, before falling on the ground.
I took this opportunity to say something that had been nagging the back of my mind.
"You're afraid of Clarity realizing you hurt me, aren't you.."
"Pfft, no I'm not!" Sarul shouted back, but there was the shaky unsteadiness in his voice. My words had struck home.
"How 'bout we strike up a deal?" I asked, holding my hand out.
"Go on?" Sarul said, the blade now hovering a foot or two above the ground.
"If I don't say anything about what happened here, you don't attack me?" I said, smirking.
The blade hesitated for a moment, before bobbing up and down.
"Unless it's for a life or death scenario." Sarul said quietly, his blade pointing at my chest. Wouldn't a knife hurt me more then help me?
"So, how do we make a deal?" I asked, looking at the blade uneasily. I was really hoping that this wasn't the blood binding sort of thing you'd expect from an occult blade.
"Nope. You just say, "I make a deal, yadaya." Easy." Sarul said.
"Just like that...?" I asked, looking at the blade hesitantly.
"Yes, of course just like that!" Sarul snapped, the blade hovering in the air, clearly agitated by the way power was humming off it.
"Alright, alright!" I said, pacing now. "Why'd Clarity even choose someone like you?"
"I don't know, maybe because I'm an enchanted knife?" The knife shouted, and Clarity stirred, shifting slightly in her sleep. "Shh, you don't want to wake her up."
"Ngh.." Clarity mumbled, clutching my arm as I looked at her in surprise.
"Huh?" I murmured, and Sarul clattered to the ground as Clarity jerked awake, sitting up.
"What happened?" She asked, rubbing her eyes groggily as she looked around.
"Nothing, nothing." I murmured.
"Don't say anything." Sarul murmured in my head.
I went a little pale, Clarity not noticing as she stood up.
"We should get moving, it's almost dawn." She said, picking up her stuff. She grabs the hilt of Sarul, tossing the blade in the air, catching it by the tip of it's blade. She grinned as she placed the blade inside her pocket.
I flinched as I hung my bow over my shoulder. I eyed Sarul warily.
I didn't trust the blade at all.
Not one bit.

Sarul's POV
~
I was pretty sure the kid was onto me.
Pretty sure by the way he was glaring at me.
Wasn't my fault that Clarity liked me more.

I didn't like how he knew though.
It was a little unnerving.
Perhaps I'd have to eliminate him later.

Not yet though.
Too soon.
