Chapter 5: 'A Necessary Sacrifice'

Jamie's POV

~~

"Are you two ready to go?" I asked, eyeing the two teenagers carefully. It had been so long since I'd seen Kyoto, and now he was leaving yet again. So soon.

And cats didn't offer good company.

Josephine spent most of the day sleeping anyway.

"Yeah, I'm good." Kyoto said, grinning. "Clarity?"

"Yeah, I'm fine." Clarity said, holding a bulky crossbow. That didn't seem really her size. And it didn't seem to be her weapon of choice.. Or was it?

I looked at Clarity, who flinched from my gaze. She really didn't like getting stared at.

"Can we go?" Clarity mumbled, looking at me with narrowed eyes. Was it just me, or did her eyes flash a black for a moment?

"Of course Clarity." Kyoto said, opening the door. "Wait...can I call you Clary?"

Clarity shrugged, and Kyoto smirked.

"Okay Clary." Kyoto said, grinning. Clarity sighed and looked at Kyoto with the 'really' look. "What?"

I smiled, looking at the two of them. Teenage love was a fascinating thing to watch.

"I s'ppose you two should be leaving then?" I asked, sounding a little wistful. I didn't want to lose more companions. I had very few to begin with. Not many people liked someone with a nomadic lifestyle.

The two of them nodded and stepped outside, their feet crunching lightly into the snow that  had fallen during the past couple of hours. Several rabbit trails were widespread on the ground, a result of the hungry mammals.

"We should." Kyoto murmured to himself, and looked up at me. "Thanks for letting me stay over."

"And same here." Clarity said, shaking hands with me. I let out a wistful sigh, and Clarity flinched slightly.

"I-Is everything alright?" Clarity asked. "Jamie?"

I waved my hand in the air, shaking off a thought. Clarity....well, she reminded me of someone...Someone I cared about. I was confused, and well, I wasn't getting any "Clarity" out of it. (You'll never stop my puns!)

"Don't worry about me you two." I said lightly, keeping my confused emotions out of my voice. "You've got to get going anyways."

Kyoto looked hesitant, but nodded, pulling Clarity away slowly. Clarity resisted for a moment, before following him. She looked at me for a moment, before disappearing into the surrounding forest with Kyoto.

*Seven hours later*

"What is it!" I shouted in frustration, waking up to hear the loud banging on the door. Josephine hissed in annoyance. Funny how she knew how I felt.

I hesitated, grabbing a rifle from off the side of my dresser. Weapons were preferred in the case of strangers knocking on your door in the middle of the night.

As I opened the door, I felt a sense of uneasiness, and....fear.

And within a matter of seconds, someone stabbed a sword through my chest.

What's Death like?

..It's different, that's for sure.

Everything is seen from a whole different side of things.

And for the moment, I was hovering above my own body, like a narrator of sorts unable to do anything.

My attacker stood over me, still holding his revolver in one hand. It was in his left hand, but that would pose no significant help.

I hoped that Josephine was still alright. Cats had a knack for knowing when something was wrong, and I hoped that this would be one of those times. I flinched as I heard the attacker cuss, as well as Josephine's furious  hissing.

The gun went off again, and the house went silent  yet again.

I'd hoped for the best.

~~~
I'm feeling less creative than normal, I will admit that.
Doesn't help that I'm writing this in the basement while the rest of my family is screaming 'bout the Super Bowl.
Anyways, thanks for reading!
