Chapter 3: Sanctuary
Kyoto knocked urgently on a rickety, wooden door, and flinched as he heard the door creak on its own.
"C'mon Clarity.." Kyoto grumbled, half tugging, half yanking the teenager to follow him. Despite all that he had said, Clarity still looked dubious and wary as she stumbled into the room.
The room was an utter mess, a sight for sore eyes. In a corner of the room was a small kitchen, food and plates strewn everywhere, some not even clean. Asides from that, the only other things that decorated the room was a table, a few chairs, and a tray of two tea cups, one of them half-filled with what smelled like herbal tea.
Kyoto stiffened as he felt something graze his leg, only to realize that it was his friend's cat, Joesphine, a black and white cat, with a white spot going over one of her eyes. The cat purred as she butted her head again Kyoto's leg, and Kyoto picked up the cat, who purred and nestled herself in his arms.
"Where is he?" Kyoto murmured, stroking the cat behind the ear as he stared at his surroundings.
"Gah, you mangy cur!" someone shouted, and Kyoto flinched as he heard someone hit the wall, out of his view. "Coming!"
"Are you sure we can trust him?" Clarity hissed, looking towards the shouting.
"Yeah, I think." Kyoto said, flinching as the man shouted again.
The man walked into the room, running a hand through his rumpled brown hair. His dark green eyes looked at Clarity suspiciously, before turning to Kyoto. He froze for a moment, before bursting into a grin.
"Kyoto!" the man shouted and hugged Kyoto tightly. "It's been so long!"
"Yeah, yeah, nice seeing you too.." Kyoto gasped, squirming around helplessly in the man's grip. "This is Jamie. Lemme go, you're squeezing me tightly!"
"Oh, right." Jamie said, his face flustered as he stepped back. "And who is this, your fiancé?"
Kyoto blushed, and judging by the looks of Jamie's face, Clarity was doing likewise. Jamie let out a somewhat strange snort, and grinned.
"So, is that true?" Jamie asked, and Kyoto immediatly shook his head. "Ah, I would've assumed-"
"Listen, we need help!" Clarity interrupted, and Jamie smirked.
"You want help from...the love doctor?" Jamie said, and snorted again. Clarity fumed and glared at Jamie before storming off. "Hey, I was just kidding!"
"Hey, chill would you?" Kyoto hissed, and Jamie shrugged. "Her family died in an intentional fire."
Jamie flinched. "Wait..you're not kidding." he murmered, shuddering. "Ouch.."
"Yeah, and that's why she doesn't need any advice from the 'love doctor'." Kyoto grumbled and tugged Jamie by the ear, who yelped in pain.
"Oww, oww, stop it!" Jamie yelped in pain as he rubbed in ear uncomfortably. "That hurt."
"Well, that what you get for acting like that, you idiot." Kyoto grumbled, and Jamie flinched. "You still have any supplies from before?"
Jamie nodded, and eyed Kyoto hesitantly. "What did you do this time?" Jamie groaned as he tossed Kyoto a key. "Don't mess up the place, please? You left my stack of cans in a heap of broken, and crumpled piles of arrows. Might I ask, JUST WHAT DID YOU DO TO THE ARROWS THAT GOT THE SHAFTS SNAPPED OFF!"
Kyoto flinched as he backed up. Jamie fumed and glared at Kyoto as Kyoto bolted to Jamie's pantry. About those arrows, yeeeeah, not his best experiment. (Ha, ask me about that experiment, that should make a great mini story) But the good thing was, he had the key.
"Oi Clarity, I've got the key!" Kyoto shouted, and Clarity mumbled an incohertant yes, at least, that was what Kyoto thought she said. Clarity seemed fairly content with petting Josephine, and the cat seemed quite happy.
"Well, so much for that." Kyoto mumbled and walked over to the pantry. Jamie yawned, and walked towards the couch, leaning back until he was snoring softly. Well, good thing was he wasn't going to have an angry Jamie after his head.
Kyoto jammed the key into the slot and the pantry door creaked open slowly.
"Gah, a-"
Before Kyoto could finish, a bag of flour fell onto him, sitting on his chest stubbornly.
"Clarity, could you get this off me?" Kyoto wheezed, wincing as a bit of flour poured onto his face.
All he could hear was Clarity's content snoring and Kyoto sighed.
