Finally...
The air was cooler now as I rode on Pear's back, the donkey moving as quickly as he could. My escape went as good as it could have in the amount of time that I had, meaning I almost got caught multiple times. I'm lucky that I was trained to be stealthy or I wouldn't have made it halfway to the edge of Manberg. A sigh passed my lips as I ran a shivering hand through Pear's mane, feeling the poor animal stumble a bit from exhaustion. "Just a bit more hun, then we can rest for a bit, okay?" My voice was shaky from nerves as I urged my stead on, hoping to get as far as I could before the sun came up.
Pear seemed to agree with my thoughts as it picked up it's pace from a canter to an unsteady trot. "That's it baby, just a bit more." I felt the wind nip at my nose as Pear picked up speed, full on galloping now. A smile made it's way on to my lips, the action feeling unnatural after not doing so for months. I felt..free.
The feeling was euphoric, addicting even. I laughed almost silently, my emotions seeming to spread to my stead as he seemed to fly across the empty plains. I knew that we were far enough from Manberg now to set up camp, so I proaded firmly at Pear's reins, making him slow to a trot than a canter before completely stopping. "Alright hun, let's rest up for a bit." I dismounted from the panting donkey, watching as he moved to find a comfortable spot to rest.
Tightening my cloak a bit more, I set down the crafting table I had packed. Pulling out the materials to create a campfire. The process was easy and in a matter of minutes, I had a nice fire to keep me warm for the night. Packing away my crafting table, I sat in front of the burning fire, feeling my body melt against the heat it provided. I felt Pear lay beside me, his head resting on my lap as he got comfortable.
As Pear fell asleep, I looked away from the burning embers of the fire and traced my eyes along the stars in the sky. The smile on my face was no longer broad but soft as I gave a quiet sigh of relief. "We did it Pear.." I murmured, knowing the animal couldn't hear nor understand me. "We actually did it."
