Gabriella and Bellamy's first try at turning off the acid fog did not go as planned at all.
First, Bellamy's keycard wouldn't work and not even a minute later, other guards found them, realized Bellamy wasn't who he was pretending to be and chased them around for what felt like an hour, until they killed five of them and they were able to lose the rest.
Now, they were knocking on the door of Maya's apartment for help and her father was the one that opened up.
"Vincent, we need your help." Bellamy told him in a hushed whisper, nervous about alarming any more guards to where they ran off to.
The man didn't even hesitate to open the doors wider and let them in, closing the doors as soon as they entered and informing them about the situation, "It's all over the radio. They know about you. Anyone see you come here?"
"I don't think so." Gabriella told him, placing her gun on the table and crossing her arms over her chest, "I mean, we've only gone through vents and halls we know there are no cameras in and so we should be fine."
"Vincent." a voice chimed in from behind, making all three of them snap their heads around. Gabriella's eyes widened at the sight of an unfamiliar guard and she and Bellamy both instantly pulled out their guns, aiming them at him.
"It's okay." Vincent assured them warily, "Lee's with us."
"Dante was like a father to me. Some of us don't agree with Cage's agendas." Lee informed them once they lowered their guns.
"Where are Jasper, Monty, Philip and Maya?" Bellamy asked, his eyes still narrowed suspiciously.
"They're okay." Vincent told him, "Thanks to Lee, we moved them to a wing that's already been searched."
Gabriella really didn't like how unsure Vincent sounded and furrowed her eyebrows at him, "How can you be sure it's safe?"
"We had no choice. They've gone public with what happened at Level Five. They're saying you killed ten soldiers."
The blonde scoffed and rolled her eyes at Vincent's words, "We only killed like five of them and we wouldn't have if they weren't about to kill us too. Plus, I'd hardly call them soldiers."
Huffing, Vincent kept going and ignored her comment, "I don't know how much longer we can keep this shell game going. Did you take out the acid dog yet?"
"No." Bellamy shook his head, his frustration obvious, "That's why we're here. We are going to need another route."
"Why ahead of you." Vincent exclaimed, brushing past them and towards one of the shelves, "You can get there through the retrofit zones."
He layed out the piece of paper he grabbed across the table, revealing another map of Mount Weather.
"They're off limits. No cameras, no patrols. We used some to move the kids. And that's your other route."
Letting out a sigh under his breath, he reached across the table and handed Gabriella a familiar metal object, "You're also gonna need this. It's an acetylene torch. First, you're gonna go to the northwest corridor . . . "

Gabriella couldn't remember the last time she was this annoyed with how low Bellamy's intelligence is and how big his ego is.
Because while one part of their friends were hiding all over the Mountain and the other were training an army, the two of them were supposed to be disabling the acid fog. But, of course Bellamy thought it was a great idea to act like he was smarter than her and didn't allow her to even come close to the acid fog monitor.
Sure Gabriella almost melted when he saved Fox a couple hours ago and the younger girl practically tackled them into a hug 𝘢𝘯𝘥 they had that short moment in Maya's apartment to rest, a moment where everything felt like before again.
But not even remembering Bellamy lowering his guard down and letting go of the tough guy act for a minute could keep her annoyance down right now.
Okay and 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦, seeing him shoot the three guards that caught them sneaking around earlier was more attractive than she'd like to admit but she's not supposed to be even thinking about that kind of stuff in a situation like this, especially since she was with Murphy.
"𝘏𝘦𝘺, 𝘌𝘭. 𝘏𝘰𝘸'𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘰𝘺 𝘔𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨?"
Surprised that it wasn't Raven or Wells' voice coming from the earpieces and instead it was Wick's, Bellamy raised his eyebrows, "Hello to you too."
"𝘋𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘞𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨." Raven chimed in bitterly, Gabriella could perfectly picture her rolling her eyes.
"Doesn't surprise me." Gabriella muttered under her breath but realized Raven and the two boys with her could still hear her when she heard Raven huff out a laugh and Wells snort.
Quickly remembering Wick asked her a question earlier, Gabriella spoke up again, "Monty is fine . . . for now."
"𝘔𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘦𝘱 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘺, 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘦."
Gabriella swore she saw Bellamy's jaw twitch but brushed it off once Wick spoke up again.
"𝘐𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘭, 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨."
"I'd let you know if it was a control panel if Bellamy would let me actually look at it and stopped guarding it like a caveman." Gabriella snarked, making Bellamy raise his hands in fake surrender, but still stay glued to his spot.
"𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢 𝘱𝘏 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦."
"Right." Bellamy muttered under his breath and Gabriella instantly rolled her eyes at the confusion in his voice that he tried to cover up with fake confidence, "Well, it had a scale, but the rest, uh── "
Gabriella's scoff cut him off, "Just move out of the way, Freckles. Gods, watching you do that is like an insult to my intelligence."
"Can't we just blow this thing?" Bellamy asked, allowing Gabriella to push him out of the way so she could take a closer look at the monitor.
"No." Gabriella, Wells, Raven and Wick all voice at the same time.
"𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘭𝘭 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘹 𝘪𝘵 𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘺𝘣𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵." Wells explained, the tiredness in his voice obvious.
"𝘗𝘭𝘶𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧." Raven added without missing a beat.
"𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘌𝘭." Wick said and Gabriella could basically hear the smirk he was wearing right now, "𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘥. 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯."
Letting out a defeated sigh, Gabriella rested her hands against the side of the monitor, her brain completely empty of ideas.
"𝘓𝘰𝘰𝘬, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘞𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴."
Raven's words made Gabriella relax slightly. She closed her eyes and rubbed her forehead for a couple of seconds before opening them and looking down at the monitor.
"Okay so I can't see an actuator." she started, looking over the screen in front of her with her bottom lip tucked between her teeth in frustration.
"What even is that?" Bellamy muttered to himself and Gabriella still heard him but chose to ignore him for the time being.
"𝘌𝘭, 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺. 𝘚𝘦𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦'𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴 '𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯'."
Realization flashed through Gabriella and she instantly followed Wick's instructions and smiled when she saw the pH scale show up, "Aqueous sodium hydroxide bath."
"𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘥. 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵."
"I know what that does." Gabriella told her fellow engineer, rolling her eyes but still doing what he said, "Besides, I'm already on it."
The monitor started buzzing, making Gabriella grin, while Bellamy's eyes widened in surprise.
"It's doing something." the eldest Blake informed the trio that was currently in Camp Jaha.
"𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘣𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘶𝘮𝘱." Raven told them.
Bellamy nodded and gave Gabriella what she thought was a somewhat proud smile, before he responded, "We can hear them."
Gabriella turned back to the monitor to see the needle on the pH scale go up, "The pH is rising. That means it's working right? I'm not that behind on my engineer classes, right?"
She faintly heard Wick chuckle, "𝘠𝘦𝘢𝘩, 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘫𝘰𝘣, 𝘌𝘭𝘭𝘢."
𝘗𝘈𝘚𝘚𝘐𝘝𝘈𝘛𝘐𝘖𝘕 𝘚𝘜𝘊𝘊𝘌𝘚𝘚𝘍𝘜𝘓 flashed over the monitor in the color red and Gabriella almost squealed, fist-bumping the air with a wide grin.
"Done."
The words barely left her lips when Bellamy wrapped his arms around her waist and squeezed her into a tight hug. Gabriella briefly stumbled back in shock before her grin returned and she wrapped her arms around Bellamy's neck.
"Great job, Artemis."
Gabriella still wore a huge grin on her face when they pulled back but that was also when she realized how close they were standing. Swallowing thickly, the blonde took a couple steps away from Bellamy, a little overwhelmed with the unfamiliar feeling washing over her.
"𝘞𝘦'𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘴. 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘨𝘶𝘺𝘴."
Wells' voice coming from their earpieces snapped them both out of the little moment they were having and Gabriella swore she was never this grateful to hear Wells Jaha in her entire life.
Whatever was going on between Gabriella and Bellamy had to stop. Or at least it had to be put on hold until they were both safely home── if either of them could even actually call Camp Jaha that.
"Roger that." Gabriella responded, clearing her throat awkwardly.
When her eyes connected with Bellamy's again, she saw he was feeling the exact same thing.
Whatever it was. It was mutual.
"I'm gonna, uh── go and connect the actuator with the system." Gabriella stammered, pulling the actuator out of her back pocket and brushing past Bellamy to do what she said she would.
Only, the pH scale on the actual machine was quick to catch her attention and with furrowed eyebrows, Gabriella scrunched down to take a closer look. Her eyes widened when she saw the scale was all the way down.
"Bellamy." she called over her shoulder, her eyes still glued on the dusty pH scale.
"Yeah?"
"Check the pH scale on the monitor, please." Gabriella requested, nerves flooding through her body.
She heard him shuffle a bit before he spoke up, "It's still the same. Why?"
"This one's completely down." she told him, getting back to the monitor, "Rae, Wick, we got a problem."
When she didn't receive an answer she called again, "Wells? Is anyone there? Damn it, guys. The acid fog isn't down, tell Clarke and the army to stand down or there's gonna be a massacre that doesn't go in our favor."
"Raven, Wells, where the hell are you?" Bellamy asked, him too visibly panicking.
Gabriella's panic only increased when the pH scale on the monitor completely went down too, "Shit, shit, shit. We're all going to die. Gods, this is such a mess."
To make things even better, the alarm suddenly turned on and the doors they thought were perfectly sealed were surrounded by guards.
"Fuck." Bellamy cursed, wrapping one of his arms around Gabriella's wrist and using the other one to pull out his gun while Gabriella picked up her own.
Both of them looked around in panic, trying to think of what to do when Bellamy suddenly snatched the actuator out of Gabriella's hand.
Seeing her confused look, Bellamy sighed and tugged her further away from the door, "Just trust me."
Just as they stepped away from the monitor, the doors slammed open and they were met with a huge number of guards with their guns aimed at them.
"Drop your weapons!"
Bellamy tugged Gabriella behind the oxygen tank, caging her body in between his own and the tank.
"Show yourself! Hands first."
"What the hell are you doing?" Gabriella hissed when Bellamy moved away from her, messing with something over her head and then turning around like he was about to make a run for it.
"Saving your life." he responded, "You can thank me later. Now, go run to that vent behind us as fast as you can. I'll cover for you and then I'll be right behind you."
"Coming here with me was a stupid thing to begin with and now you want to die for me too?" Gabriella snapped, raising an unimpressed eyebrow, "No way. You're going first."
"Gabi── "
"Bellamy, go." when she was only met by silence, her tone shifted to a more angry one, "I'll be right behind you, just go. We don't have much time."
Realizing she wasn't giving in, Bellamy huffed and took a run for it, straight into the vent, Gabriella shot one of the guards that was close to shooting him before she too followed him inside.
The guards' voices were getting louder which indicated that they were following them so Gabriella aimed her gun at the vent opening, stopping them from entering further. Her eyes widened when she ran out of bullets and she started to call over her shoulder, "Bell, I need more── "
Her eyes widened and her sentence was cut short when the sound of a loud explosion went out and she realized Bellamy's arms were wrapped around her waist.
"Gabi, get back!"
She didn't hesitate in letting him pull her out of the vent completely, and she didn't even flinch at the pain in her back when it hit the floor, her eyes were fully stuck on the explosion happening right in front of her eyes.
"You alright?" the sound of Bellamy's voice and his hand cupping her face snapped her out of her trance and she blinked rapidly to bring herself back to the present.
"Yeah," Gabriella swallowed, shakily nodding, "It's just── a lot."
"You never get used to it, do you?" Bellamy asked rhetorically, helping her sit down on her floor better.
"I guess not." the blonde said, finally getting over the state of shock and looking up at Bellamy, bright blue eyes meeting deep dark brown, "That was actually really smart. Good thinking."
"Yeah?" Bellamy raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly when she nodded, "Thanks."
"No problem."
a/n: as you probably already realized, gabi and bellamy's relationship starts changing from mount weather and eventually ( I'm not saying when ) they will become a thing so if you're the type of person to start hating on a book because of the love interest switch then I'd kindly ask you to start reading immediately
