39.
I didn't know what to do.
"Toto, listen to meee,"
I whined.
"I don't want to,"
the boy grumbled back.
"So there's this thing,"
I started anyways,
"like, a death game scenario."
"You're writing a story again?"
Toto groaned, exhausted from his all-nighter.
"Get that stick outta your ass,
tater tot," I groaned, "this is important."
Toto tapped away at something
indescribably indecipherable,
so I ignored it.
He was silent as he allowed
me to keep talking.
"Hey, why do you think
people kill in those stories?"
I said, curious.
Toto didn't really turn up to look at me
but he answered, "many reasons.
Money, sometimes. Freedom, others.
Other times there's probably a seed in the midst
that's killing everyone and making other
people follow his lead."
"Freedom, huh..." I hummed,
leaning on his chair, "release."
Dream Eater hunts,
not for pleasure,
but to eat.
He's been driven mad
with hunger.
Toto reaches for his potato chips,
and munches on a large handful.
I looked at my phone,
and a notification blinked up.
『 Rulebreaker spotted! 』
『 Use 「 Scythe of the Necromancer 」? 』
YES ⋆ NO
My eyes glazed over.
"What about madness?"
I asked.
Toto shrugged.
"Anything."
I clicked on NO,
and snatched the potato chips from the table,
depositing it in the trash.
"Wha-" Toto was absolutely flabbergasted,
"What's the fucking problem with you??"
"Nothing," I teased, smiling cheekily,
clicking on the Potion option and restoring
my health, "just obeying the rules."
Madness, huh.
