Nandani POV
We woke up early after sleeping for almost negligible time. The early morning rituals had already begun, and I did not find Rudra in my bed when I woke up. He must be busy with the preparations for the departure of Baarat.
I immediately indulged in the thousands of things. The sweets, the breakfast for guests, the rituals, and most importantly, getting the groom ready for the wedding.
I asked Suman to take out the clothes that Rudra and I chose for Devarsa, the jewellery and everything he had to wear.
I platted everything on the big plate and asked an attendee to follow me.
I stepped into Devarsa's chamber and looked at him sitting on the couch with a group of attendees walking here and there in front of me.
His face was straight, and I could feel how frustrated he was feeling right now.
"Is it too much? Devarsa,"
I said in a slow voice and looked at him, turning his gaze to me, and he immediately stood up from the couch.
"Pranam, Bhabhisa,"
He said with a slight bow, and I nodded my head a little.
Though he was older than me, he always respected me as if I was older than her. But, I could not say the same for Agastya as he always considered me as a friend more than her Bhabhisa. He calls me Bhabhisa, for the name's sake.
I could sense that he gets uncomfortable around women.
I smiled and asked the attendee.
"Please leave,"
The attendees who were doing the daily chores walked out of the chamber, and I looked at the attendee who arrived with me and signalled them to keep the plates on the couch.
"Time to get ready,"
I said, and he nodded, looking at me.
"I have already taken a bath,"
He said, and I smiled.
"Then you must change into this white pair of Kurta,"
I said, handing him the plate.
"Okay,"
He obliged silently, took the plate, and walked into the changing room.
I waited for him until he came back and stood in front of me.
"Done, Bhabhisa,"
He said in a slow voice, and I smiled, looking at him.
"You are looking very handsome, Devarsa,"
I said in a slow voice, signalled towards the dressing table, and asked him to sit on the chair.
He sat silently, and I looked at the attendee with all the jewellery to move forward.
She placed the plate on the table, and he looked at it.
He started wearing the rings, the thick manly bangle on his wrist, and I asked all of a sudden.
"You should wear your overcoat first,"
The attendee with the heavy and jewelled overcoat stepped forward, and he stood up.
"Ji,"
I could sense that he was nervous and uncomfortable a little.
I looked at the attendee and said.
"Keep the plates here and leave us alone,"
He slipped his arm through the arms of the overcoat and looked at the attendees leaving.
"Sit down,"
I said, and he nodded.
"Ji,"
I smiled, looking at me, and I tried to ask.
"Are you still unsure, Devarsa?"
He lowered his gaze for a moment and shook his head slowly.
"Not unsure, Bhabhisa, but worried,"
He said in a slow voice, and I forwarded my hand to pick up the Kantha to tie it around his neck. It was heavy.
"Why are you worried?"
I asked in a slow voice and tied the hook behind his neck.
He inhaled a deep breath and said in a slow voice.
"She does not know me. I am afraid if she will like me or not and what our life will be like,"
I could sense the nervousness and fear behind his voice which was completely understandable.
I smiled and placed my hand on his shoulder.
"Aap hamare bhai jese hai, Devarsa. Bade Bhai jese, aap pehle hi bahut samajhdar hai, bhot saksham hai fir bhi ek ladki hone ke naate aapse ek baat jaroor kehna chahenge. Ek Ladki apna sab kuch chodkar bas ek ladke ke liye apne sasural me kadam rakhti hai. Or agar vo pati usse thodi si izzat, do prem ke bol or kuch man ki baate baat le to vo ussi me apni saari khushiyan doondh leti hai. Hum bhi Aishwarya ko nahi jaante, vo bhi hume nahi jaanti magar fir bhi agar sab koshish kare to usse apnapan dene ki to vo hamari ho jaegi. Lekin, us koshish ka prarambh aapko hi karna hoga. Uske dil tak aapko hi pohuchna hoga or kisi bhi ladki ke dil tak pohuchna ho to bass usse vo izzat do jiski vo hakdar hai, vo aapki ho jaegi,"
"You are like my brother, Devarsa, elder brother indeed; you are already very much intelligent and capable, but still, being a girl, I would really like to present a girl's point of view in front of you. A girl steps into the world of a man after leaving her whole world behind her, and if that husband gives her a little bit of respect, a few words of love and a bit of heart sharing, then she finds all her happiness in that only. We do not know Aishwarya, and she does not know us either, but still, if we all try to give her a bit of familiarity and love, then she will become ours. But, those efforts needed to be begun by you. Only you have to reach to her heart, and if you want to reach any girl's heart, then give her the respect and love she deserves, and she will become yours,"
I said in a slow voice, and he nodded, looking at me. There was a pause silently between us for a little bit of time until he dressed up entirely.
"Are you ready?"
Suddenly, the voice of Ranaji caught my attention, and we both turned to look at him.
He smiled, looked at us, and Devarsa stood up from the chair.
"Ji, Bhaisa,"
He smiled, looked at him, patted his shoulder, and hugged him.
"I am so happy for you, Ranvjay. I do not know, but this is even more joyful than my own wedding,"
He said, and I chuckled, hearing him.
I did not know, but it was making me all emotional.
"His Kohl is still remaining,"
I said, and Rudra looked at me.
"Oh,"
Ranvijay sat back in the chair, and I grabbed the small box of kohl.
I collected it in my index finger and looked at him.
"Devarsa, neg hai hamara ye,"
"Devarsa, this is my Neg,"
He chuckled a little, and Rudra said in a slow voice.
"Stall still, or she will end up putting her finger in your eyes,"
He suddenly burst into laughter, and I immediately withdrew my finger back from his eyes and looked at Rudra.
"Shut up, Rudra,"
I said, and Devarsa inhaled a deep breath before getting still.
"Are you ready?"
Now, the voice of Agastya disturbed me, and Devarsa laughed again.
"Yes, now you too disturb me,"
He laughed, looking at me and walked closer.
"Okay, I am still now,"
He said, and I tried to focus on the task at hand.
"Bhaisa, you are looking so handsome and hot,"
Agastya said all of a sudden, and I gave a look to Devarsa. He controlled his smile as I put my index finger closer to his and quickly stroked the kohl on the lower eyelid.
He immediately closed his eyes, and I looked at Rudra and Agastya looking at me.
"Thank you, Bhabhisa,"
He said, and I forwarded my hand.
"No, thank you. I want gift,"
I said, and he chuckled a little.
"Yes, we are going to you gift only,"
I chuckled a little, and I slapped his shoulder playfully.
"I will tell her that you called her a gift,"
He smiled and stood up from the chair.
"No need; I think I have something for you,"
He said and walked towards his Almirah. I waited until he came back with a book in his hand.
"This is for you,"
He forwarded his hand I took it with a smile.
"Thank you so much,"
I kept it on the table, and suddenly Agastya forwarded and sat on the chair.
"Me too Bhabhisa,"
I chuckled and shook my head.
"But it's not your wedding,"
"So, what?"
He immediately replied.
I sighed and forwarded my index finger to put the Kohl in his eyes too.
"Thank you, but I will give you a gift when you will the same at my wedding,"
He said and stood up from the chair.
I chuckled a little.
"You will be having two Bhabhisa to do that for you, Devarsa,"
I said, and I looked at Rudra, who was looking at me.
"Aap bhi lagwa lijiye, Ranaji,"
"You should also have it, Ranaji,"
I said in a slow voice, and he smiled while stepping forward and sitting on the chair.
"As you suggest, Ranisa,"
He said, and I smiled, looking at him.
"Just a little bit, Nandani,"
He said in a slow voice, and I smiled.
He looks insanely handsome in the white, too—an insanely hot beasty King.
I applied the kohl in his eyes too, and straightened back.
I collected a little more kohl in my index finger and applied a little behind his ear.
"This will protect you all from the evil eye,"
I applied the same to Devarsa and Agastya too.
"You should also get ready now; we all are ready to leave,"
Rudra said, and I looked at him.
"Someone should stay in the Kingdom to welcome the bride too,"
I said, and he stood up.
"I talked to Badima; she said she will be staying in the Kingdom,"
He informed me, and I nodded.
"Alright, then I must get ready quick,"
I said and walked out of the chamber to walk to mine.
I asked Suman to take out a fresh pair of new clothes for me. I chose the one which my mother gifted to me.
I met them last night. She told me Baapusa was a little sick after Holi, but he was now good. It shook me to the core and tensed me a lot, but Daadisa said he was fine.
I did not know, but fighting with my parents, going against them, and having a tough time with them was one thing, but seeing them getting sick was my worst nightmare. Seeing them leaving all their comfort to raise us unconditionally and seeing them getting sick and needing us was something really new and disturbing for me.
I could not see anything happening to them.
I was insanely tormented when my grandfather left us. He used to love me a lot.
What the hell was I thinking amid the beautiful occasion?
I asked Suman to help me get ready quickly. I wore the maroon attire and added all the pieces of jewellery to the look. I asked her to tie my hair in a bun today.
She placed the dupatta on my head, and before stepping out of the chamber, I added the vermillion in the partition of my hair.
The whole Kingdom was laughing with joy. The trumpets, the drums and the dancers were adding the stars to the occasion.
I walked towards the place everyone was waiting for me.
Rudra walked towards me after looking at me, and he smiled looking at me.
"You will catch an evil eye today for sure,"
He said and held my hand, and took me to the centre of the crowd. I looked at everyone watching us and the dancers walking aside.
I giggled, and suddenly the noise of the drums became so loud, and we both lifted our steps to dance. I looked at him, matching his steps with mine. I laughed so lively and looked at Agastya looking at us. I signalled him to walk in, and he did.
I also pulled my Daadisa and Maasa in too. My Daadisa danced, but my Maasa felt shy to do that. Even Badimaa and other relatives joined.
It was so energetic, and everyone was like enjoying it so much.
I looked at Rudra and Agastya walking towards Ranvijay. They both pulled him in, and he smiled a little, looking at them.
I looked at the elephant that was ready for Ranvijay.
I walked towards it and applied the tilak to his forehead. I fed him a few fruits and stroked his forehead.
"Give blessings to Devarsa,"
I said in a slow voice and looked at Rudra, Ranvijay and Agastya walking towards it.
Rudra and Agastya helped him to climb the Elephant. Everyone cheered up when he sat down on his back, and I sprinkled the rice and Kumkum.
The priest blew the Shankh as the sign of beginning, and everyone started settling on their horses and in the palanquin. I sat in mine, and we began our journey to Songarh.
