Chapter Twelve
After three days of written exams, we had to face the practical. Unlike we expected, we were not facing robots. Instead, we were against the teachers. Because there was an odd number, there was one group of three, which was Jiro, Koda, and me, and we were against Present Mic.
You're kidding...this is perfect.
The first group was Sato and Kirishima. Jiro was pretty confident that we would have no issue facing the announcer of the school, which worked out for me because I really wanted to watch Kirishima's match. I know how hard he's been working, and I wanted to see him in action. However, their tactic was not the best, and both Sato and Kirishima were knocked out.
Unbelievable...it ended so quickly.
I couldn't help but start to worry about our own battle. The next match was with Su and Tokoyami, and they were against Ectoplasm. It seemed that the two of them had come up with a solid plan, and they were able to capture Ectoplasm. The next match was with Iida and Ojiro, who were against power Loader. It was another hard battle to watch, but Ojiro was able to escape, passing them. The fourth match was with Momo and Todoroki, who were up against Mr. Aizawa, and I was nervous for them. However, the two of them were able to capture Mr. Aizawa. Ochako and Aoyama were against Thirteen next, and although things looked bad for them, they were able to win. Mina and Kaminari were next, and they were facing Principal Nezu. Unfortunately, the two of them ran out of time, failing the practical, and I couldn't help but feel bad for them. But I didn't have time to think about that; we were up next.
"Let's avoid combat with Present Mic. Head straight to the exit," Jiro suggested. "Sound good?"
"I don't think it is going to be that easy," I told her. "We were specifically paired against him for a reason—"
"YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
With the loud shriek in our ears, we all instantly huddled down, trying to protect ourselves. Jiro seemed to take it the worst and instantly turned to Koda.
"You control animals, don't you?" She aggressively asked him. "Get some birds to attack him or something."
Koda then explained to her that Present Mic's voice would cause the birds to fly away.
"COME OUTTTTT!" Present Mic yelled through the forest.
Jiro instantly hit the ground to cover her ears.
"Wait Koda, can you control bugs too?" I asked him.
Jiro then looked to one of the ants on the rocks and scooped it up on her finger. "She's right...look at this, an alley."
Koda instantly started screaming at the sight of the insect.
You're kidding me...
Before either of us could go get him, Present Mic started screaming again, and it was evident that Jiro couldn't take much more. She tried to block out his screams but only worsened her condition.
"We don't have time for this, Koda. Look at Jiro, she's barely holding on with his frequencies. We have to do this now; can you control bugs or not?" I asked him.
Koda finally nodded telling us he could.
"Good," Jiro replied, using one of her jack to blast the rock next to her.
Koda isn't started crying out.
"Koda, I know it's scary, but this is the only thing that is going to work," I told him.
Jiro also started encouraging him. Her ears were bleeding, and I could tell that she was suffering. Finally, Koda started to take action, talking to the bugs.
"HE CAN TALK?" Jiro replied.
We soon heard Present Mic scream out in terror.
"C'mon, let's go," I told them.
Koda took no time to hesitate. He picked up Jiro in her weakened form and carried her out. I followed behind, ready to blast Present Mic if need be, but it seemed as if the bugs had a pretty good hold on him. We ended up passing the practical.
There were only three matches left, and currently, Hagakure and Shoji were next, against snipe.
"Hey (Y/N) ...I just wanted to tell you good job out there," Jiro told me, once Recovery Girl had healed up her ears.
"Oh...I didn't really do anything, you were the real trooper out there," I told her.
"Yeah...I was practically useless out there, but I have to ask you...how did you know Present Mic was scared of bugs?" Jiro asked.
I couldn't help but start to let out a nervous laugh, "Oh, that was just a lucky guess...I mean who doesn't hate bugs?"
"Yeah, that makes sense," Jiro agreed, focusing back on the match.
That was close...
I also went back to watching the fight, but I couldn't help but notice a small chuckle from behind me.
"WhO iSn'T sCaReD oF bUgS," a mocking voice teased me from behind.
I turned around shocked to see that it was Bakugo.
"A-are you mocking me right now?" I asked, almost in disbelief.
"I think you owe me a thank you for that win," he told me.
"Excuse me?" I questioned.
"I'm just saying you would have never known that Present Mic was scared of bugs if it wasn't for me," he shrugged, with a sly grin.
I couldn't help but role my eyes. "Oh, great Bakugo, thank you for annoying me enough to accidently blast one of our teachers, so I was able to find out his biggest fear."
"You could try again without the sarcasm," he snarled at me.
"That's the best you're going to get," I replied.
He was about to reply but was cut off from the announcement that Hagakure and Shoji were able to beat Snipe and pass the practical exam.
"Looks like I'm up soon," Bakugo mumbled.
"You heading to the waiting room?" I asked.
"Obviously, no point in waiting in here," he replied.
"Well, good luck," I told him.
"I won't need luck as long as that damn nerd doesn't get in my way," Bakugo said, glaring back at Midoriya before leaving.
Oh Bakugo...when will you learn to play well with others.
