Chapter Seven
"(Y/N)? Who the hell is (Y/N)?" I overheard Bakugo asked.
"It's me, you idiot," I grumbled to him.
"Oh, it's the extra...this will be a breeze then," he smirked to himself, before he walked off.
"You—"
"It's not even worth it," Mina cut me off, with a smile on her face. "Come on, let's go play some games."
I nodded in reply and joined the rest of the girls with the side games. It wasn't long before Cementoss had finished the floor for the arena. Present Mic announced that it was finally time to begin, and I joined the rest of the class to watch Shinso and Midoriya's fight.
I sat between Momo Ochako, and Bakugo sat on the other side of our section, a row behind me. I tried my best to no glance back at him, but I couldn't help it. He seemed to be doing the same thing.
I wonder if he's as nervous as me- what am I saying? He's literally going to try to kill me.
I couldn't even focus on the fight. I was brought back to reality as everyone around me started freaking out. Midoriya was starting to walk out of bounds. I avoided Ojiro's gaze, knowing that Shinso's brain washing was the cause.
Midoriya had almost stepped out of bounce, when he had suddenly stopped himself, blasting out a force of air. Everyone around started cheering for him, myself included. Midoryia then started to charge at Shinso, and after a few minutes of hand-to-hand combat, Midoriya was able to get him out of bounce, advancing to the next round.
"That was so intense," Momo commented.
"It was nerve wracking," Ochako added.
I was also impressed, seeing how Shinso's quirk in action earlier. The next battle was between Todoroki and Sero. Knowing what I do, I figured this fight would be over pretty quick.
In a matter of seconds, Todoroki had covered almost half of the arena with ice. Trapped in Todoroki's ice, Sero was immobilized, putting an end to the second round. There was a small break taken between the next round, as they needed to fix the stage. Next, Ochako and Kaminari were up. The battle between these took a bit longer than the last, but Kaminari was the victor. Iida and that girl from the support course were next. In their battle, Hatsume was able to capture Iida in a net, and then she spent that next ten minutes showing off her gadgets, and once she was done, she stepped out of the ring, giving Iida the win.
Mina and Ayoama were next, which meant that there were only two more matches before I had to face Bakugo. I shifted uncomfortably, glancing back to him. He was glaring right back at me, and I felt my stomach turn. I ended up staying long enough to watch Mina get the win, but I knew I needed more time to prepare myself. Once Mina got back with the rest of us, I congratulated her before I made my way to the waiting room.
Come on, (Y/N). You need to come up with a strategy. He's literally going to blow you up...
I was fairly confident in my quirk, but when it comes to attacks and strength, Bakugo easily had me out matched. The only advantages I had over him was the fact that he has never experienced the effects of my quirk and doesn't know about my stealth training I have had with Edgeshot throughout the years, but I had no form of defense-
"(Y/N)?" I heard a voice ask from the doorway. "What are you doing in here? You aren't watching the matches?"
I turned to see Kirishima standing there, almost looking concerned.
"Shouldn't you be watching the matches?" I replied.
"I'm up next, so I thought I should take a couple minutes to get collect my thoughts," he told me, sitting down at the table. "What about you? Are you okay?"
"I'm doing the same," I told him, looking down at my hands. "I don't like the idea that I have to use my quirk on a classmate...even if it is Bakugo..."
He let out a small laugh, "I can see why you're worried, but I don't think Bakugo would be that violent, not against a girl...it wouldn't be very manly of him."
"Yeah, well I don't think that's at the top of his priotites right now..." I told him.
"Hey?" He curiously responded, causing me to look up at him for moment. "You're actually kind of freaking out about this, aren't you?"
"I mean yeah, a little," I admitted. "He already doesn't like me—"
"He doesn't like anyone," Kirishima pointed out. "And the teachers are all here, nothing bad is going to happen."
"Yeah...I guess," I shrugged, picking at my nail.
Kirishima didn't speak for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I get why you are nervous...you're the new kid, and Bakugo is...well Bakugo- but you have to remember, you got into UA late and off recommendations. They literally made an entire new spot for you- that has to show for something. You obviously deserve to be here."
I looked back up to him, seeing a bright smile on his face. "Yeah...you have a point—"
"This match goes to Tokoyami," Midnight announced through the speakers placed in the room.
"That went faster than I expected," Kirishima commented.
"Oh my God, you came in here to get your head straight, and I took all of your time. I'm so sorry," I apologized.
"No, you're fine. Talking to you took my mind off my fight, and that's all I really needed," he reassured me, getting up.
I followed after him.
"You're going back out there?" he questioned.
"Yeah...maybe watching your match will take my mind off of mine," I smiled up at him, as we started to walk out. "Thank you...really, and good luck. I'll be cheering you on."
I gave him one more smile before returning to the stands.
"(Y/N), there you are!" Mina greeted me as I approached my seat.
"Where did you go? You missed Momo's fight," Su asked.
"I went to clear my head a little...I am the next match," I told them, sitting down.
"Okay, let's see who we've got for you next...The seventh match up includes two completely redundant quirks!" Present Mic announced. "One of them's a passionate manly fighter made out of steel. The hero course's Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu! Versus a passionate mainly fighter made of rock! The hero course's Eijiro Kirishima!"
"Here we go Kirishima!" I cheered.
The others joined in, as the two went at it. It seemed to go on forever, as the two took punches at each other. With one final blow, they both knocked each other out at the same time, leaving it as a draw for the moment.
"While we wait for Tetsutetsu and Kirishima to recover, we'll move onto the next battle," Present Mic announced.
I looked to the screen to see mine and Bakugo's faces displayed as the crowd cheered. All the girls wished me good luck as I made my way down to the arena. I walked with the same confidence I was always taught to have, but once I was across from Bakugo, I could feel those insecurities arising again.
